Best Apollo Build & Guide (2026) — Deadlock
Saturday, March 21, 2026 · 8 min read
Apollo is Deadlock's premier precision-based spirit carry. His kit rewards players who master ability sequencing, mid-range spacing, and aggressive timing windows. Whether you're picking him up for the first time or looking to optimize your ranked build, this guide covers everything you need to dominate with Apollo in 2026.
Apollo Overview
Apollo excels as a mid-range duelist who chains abilities together for devastating burst combos. His spirit-scaling kit lets him shred single targets and zone entire teams when played correctly. He's strongest in the mid-to-late game once his spirit power items come online, but a skilled Apollo can win lane with smart ability usage.
Strengths
- High burst damage through ability combos and spirit scaling
- Strong dueling with Riposte counter-stun and Flawless Advance mobility
- Excellent mid-range control that zones enemies away from objectives
- Snowball potential — a fed Apollo can solo-carry teamfights
Weaknesses
- Squishy without defensive item investment
- Punished by hard CC if Riposte is on cooldown
- Ability-dependent — weak during cooldown windows
- High skill ceiling — requires good timing and ability sequencing
Recommended Item Build
Based on data from over 12,000 ranked Apollo matches tracked on dodge.gg, here's the highest winrate build path.
Early Game (0–10 min)
- Headshot Booster — Adds burst to your gun damage between ability casts
- Mystic Burst — Core spirit damage boost for your ability combos
- Spirit Strike — Extra spirit power and sustain on ability hits
- Healing Rite — Keeps you healthy during lane trades and early skirmishes

Mid Game (10–20 min)
- Cold Front — Spirit damage slow that locks down targets for your full combo
- Torment Pulse — AoE spirit damage for teamfights and wave clear
- Slowing Bullets — Makes it nearly impossible for enemies to escape your kill windows
- Reactive Barrier — Survivability against burst damage when you commit to fights

Late Game (20+ min)
- Boundless Spirit — Your best-in-slot scaling item; massively amplifies all ability damage
- Mystic Reverb — Ability hits echo for additional spirit damage, turning combos into one-shots
- Ethereal Shift — Invulnerability dodge that buys time for cooldowns or avoids lethal burst
- Escalating Exposure — Stacking spirit amp on targets makes extended fights unwinnable for enemies

Ability Priority
- Flawless Advance — Max this first. This is Apollo's primary damage and mobility tool. Each rank increases the spirit damage and reduces the cooldown, letting you reposition aggressively and open combos.
- Riposte — Max second. The counter-stun is Apollo's signature defensive ability. Higher ranks increase the stun duration and damage reflect, punishing enemies who try to trade into you.
- Disengaging Sigil — Max third. A versatile poke and disengage tool. The slow and spirit damage scale well, but the other abilities are higher priority for your combo damage.
- Itani Lo Sahn (Ultimate) — Level whenever available. Apollo's ultimate unleashes a devastating spirit damage sequence that melts single targets and can turn teamfights.
Playstyle Tips
Laning Phase
Apollo is a calculated lane trader who wins through ability poke rather than raw gun duels. Use Disengaging Sigil to poke enemies from safety, and look for all-in opportunities once you land a slow. Your Flawless Advance into Riposte combo deals heavy damage and can force early kills if the opponent overcommits.
Against aggressive melee heroes, keep your distance and use Disengaging Sigil to maintain spacing. Against ranged heroes, weave between cover and trade abilities on cooldown — your spirit damage trades tend to come out ahead.
Mid Game
This is where Apollo comes alive. With Cold Front and Torment Pulse online, your teamfight damage becomes threatening. Look for picks on isolated enemies using your Flawless Advance engage. In teamfights, position at mid-range and combo abilities into grouped enemies. Use Riposte when you expect incoming burst — a well-timed counter-stun can flip a fight.
Late Game
Late-game Apollo is a spirit damage assassin. With Boundless Spirit and Mystic Reverb, your combo can delete squishy carries in under two seconds. Your job is to find angles on high-value targets and burst them before they can react. Use Ethereal Shift to dodge retaliatory burst after committing to a kill. In extended teamfights, Escalating Exposure makes your sustained damage devastating — each ability hit amps the next.
Matchups
Favorable
- Holliday — She lacks the mobility to dodge your combo, and Riposte counters her predictable engage pattern
- Shiv — You outrange him hard; his melee-focused kit can't touch you if you space correctly
- Mirage — Your burst outdamages his sustained poke, and Riposte punishes his aggression
Even
- Abrams — He's tanky enough to survive your burst, but you can kite him if you manage cooldowns well
- Kelvin — His ice armor absorbs your combo damage, but you win if you bait it out first
- Viscous — Goo ball blocks your burst; play around his cooldowns and you'll find kill windows
Unfavorable
- Seven — His sustained AoE damage and stun disrupt your combo windows; hard to find clean engages
- Haze — She can burst you faster than you can burst her, and her mobility makes landing your combo difficult
- Ivy — Her peel and sustain for teammates nullifies your assassination attempts
