Best Grey Talon Build & Guide (2026) — Deadlock

Saturday, March 21, 2026 · 8 min read

Grey Talon is Deadlock's bow-wielding long-range sniper. His kit revolves around devastating Charged Shots, aerial rain-of-arrow barrages, spirit snare traps, and a global spirit owl that snowballs permanent power with every kill. Whether you're picking him up for the first time or looking to optimize your ranked build, this guide covers everything you need to dominate with Grey Talon in 2026.

Grey Talon Overview

Grey Talon excels as a long-range spirit damage carry who pokes enemies from safety and snowballs through Guided Owl kills. His Charged Shot is one of the hardest-hitting basic abilities in the game, and his Rain of Arrows gives him aerial multishot for teamfight pressure. He's one of the easiest heroes to build effectively — stack spirit power, hit your shots, and scale into a monster.

Strengths

  • Incredible poke damage with Charged Shot that pierces through enemies
  • Permanent spirit power scaling from Guided Owl kill stacks
  • Strong zone control with Spirit Snare's silence, disarm, and curse
  • Aerial advantage through Rain of Arrows for safe teamfight damage

Weaknesses

  • No horizontal mobility — vulnerable to dive heroes who close the gap
  • Weak in close-range 1v1s against duelists and assassins
  • Relies on team peel to survive flanks in the late game
  • Charged Shot is telegraphed — experienced players can dodge or position around it

Ability Priority

  1. Charged Shot — Max this first. Your bread-and-butter ability that pierces through enemies and deals massive spirit damage. Each rank increases the damage and scaling, turning it into a half-health-bar nuke by mid game.
  2. Rain of Arrows — Max second. Launches you airborne with multishot and bonus weapon damage. Higher ranks reduce the cooldown and add a movement slow to enemies hit, giving you aerial control in teamfights.
  3. Spirit Snare — One early point for the trap utility, then max third. The silence, disarm, and curse are powerful at rank 1. Detonating it with Charged Shot increases the explosion radius for devastating area denial.
  4. Guided Owl (Ultimate) — Level whenever available. The controllable spirit owl deals massive AoE spirit damage on impact and permanently grants +10 Spirit Power per hero killed. The tier 3 upgrade executes enemies below 22% health.

Playstyle Tips

Laning Phase

Grey Talon is a dominant lane poker who wins through Charged Shot harass. Charge your shot behind cover, peek to fire, then retreat. The piercing nature of Charged Shot means you can hit enemies through their creep wave. Your goal is to chunk the enemy's health bar repeatedly until they're forced to back or you can finish them with a follow-up shot.

Place Spirit Snare at common approach angles to protect yourself from ganks. If an enemy triggers the snare, follow up with Charged Shot for a devastating combo — the silence prevents them from using escape abilities.

Mid Game

This is where Grey Talon becomes a long-range siege threat. With Cold Front and Mystic Vulnerability online, your Charged Shot chunks enemies for 40-60% of their health. Position at the edge of teamfights and fire Charged Shots into the enemy formation — the piercing damage can hit multiple heroes. Use Rain of Arrows when enemies commit to a fight, gaining aerial safety while raining multishot damage from above.

Start looking for Guided Owl snipes on low-health enemies fleeing fights. Every owl kill permanently increases your spirit power, and the stacking snowball effect is how Grey Talon becomes unstoppable in the late game.

Late Game

Late-game Grey Talon with stacked Guided Owl kills and Boundless Spirit is a spirit damage artillery piece. Your Charged Shot can one-shot squishy carries, and your Guided Owl with the execute upgrade finishes anyone below 22% health from anywhere on the map. Position behind your frontline and fire into the enemy team — your damage output from range is unmatched.

In teamfights, open with Spirit Snare to zone key areas, fire Charged Shots into the enemy clump, then Rain of Arrows for aerial multishot damage. Save Ethereal Shift for when assassins dive you. If your team protects you, no one outscales your damage output.

Matchups

Favorable

  • Mirage — He can't close the gap against your range; Charged Shot chunks him and he has no way to engage safely
  • Shiv — Your range advantage is massive; Spirit Snare shuts down his approach and he can't touch you
  • Abrams — He runs at you in a straight line, making him a free Charged Shot target; you kite him forever

Even

  • Bebop — His hook threatens you, but if he misses you punish him hard; positioning-dependent matchup
  • Pocket — His briefcase blocks your burst, but you outrange his threat zone and poke him down over time
  • Viscous — Goo ball absorbs your Charged Shot, but you can play around the cooldown and punish between casts

Unfavorable

  • Seven — His AoE stun zones you out of your preferred range, and his sustained damage matches your poke
  • Haze — Her mobility lets her dive past your team and burst you down before you can react
  • Calico — Her roaming assassin kit bypasses your range advantage; she flanks and deletes you from stealth
