Best Brand Build & Guide (2026) — League of Legends

The definitive Brand build guide for 2026. Optimal items, runes, ability order, playstyle tips, and matchup advice backed by data from thousands of ranked League of Legends matches.

Brand is League of Legends' Burning Vengeance — a fire mage who deals devastating AoE damage through his unique passive stacking system. Whether you're a support player looking for a lane bully who scales into a teamfight monster or a mid laner who wants to melt entire teams with percent-health burn damage, this guide covers everything you need to dominate with Brand in 2026.

Brand Overview

Brand operates as a high-damage AoE mage who excels at melting teams with percent-health burn damage from his passive and chained abilities. His passive, Blaze, causes Brand's abilities to apply a stack of fire to enemies hit — at three stacks, the target erupts in an explosion that deals percent maximum health damage to all nearby enemies, making Brand's damage scale naturally against tanky compositions. Sear (Q) launches a fireball in a line that deals magic damage, and if the target is already ablaze, it stuns them for 1.5 seconds — Brand's only hard crowd control and the key to his combo sequencing. Pillar of Flame (W) calls down a delayed fire pillar in a target area that deals magic damage, with bonus damage to ablaze targets — Brand's primary poke and waveclear tool. Conflagration (E) sets a target ablaze and deals magic damage, and if the target is already ablaze, it spreads fire to all nearby enemies — the ability that turns single-target poke into AoE teamfight devastation. Pyroclasm (R) launches a bouncing flame that prioritizes ablaze champions, dealing heavy magic damage with each bounce — in clustered fights, it bounces between multiple enemies applying Blaze stacks and triggering passive explosions across the entire enemy team.

Strengths

  • Massive AoE teamfight damage — Brand's passive explosions and Pyroclasm bounces deal percent maximum health damage to entire teams. In grouped fights, Brand consistently out-damages every other support and most mid laners regardless of how far behind he is in gold
  • Scales with enemy HP — Blaze passive deals percent max health damage, meaning Brand gets more effective against tanky compositions. Unlike most mages who fall off against frontline-heavy comps, Brand actively wants enemies to stack health because his burn melts them faster
  • Low economy dependency — Brand deals massive damage with just Liandry's Anguish because his passive does the heavy lifting. On a support budget, he still matches or exceeds the damage output of full-build mages, making him one of the most gold-efficient champions in the game
  • Lane bully potential — E-W combo in lane is easy to land, deals heavy damage, and zones enemies off CS. Brand's base damages are high enough to threaten kills at level 3 with a full Q-E-W-passive combo, giving him oppressive laning regardless of role

Weaknesses

  • No mobility or self-peel — Brand has zero dashes, blinks, or movement speed steroids. If an assassin or diver gets on top of him, his only defense is landing a Q stun on an ablaze target, which requires setup and is easy to miss under pressure
  • Relies on enemies clustering — Brand's damage multiplies when enemies group up for passive explosions and R bounces, but against teams that spread out in fights, his AoE becomes single-target poke. Coordinated teams who respect Brand's passive deny him his biggest strength
  • Skill-shot dependent — Q is a narrow linear skill shot and W has a noticeable delay before it lands. Missing Q means no stun and significantly less damage in the combo. Against mobile champions, landing the full combo consistently is difficult
  • Squishy and immobile in teamfights — Brand needs to be within mid-range to use his abilities, but he has no way to escape if the fight turns against him. One CC chain on Brand usually means death, and his positioning demands are high for a champion with zero escape tools

Recommended Runes

Primary — Dark Harvest (Domination)

  • Dark Harvest — Brand's AoE passive explosions frequently bring multiple enemies below the health threshold to proc Dark Harvest, and each proc adds permanent damage to future harvests. In teamfights, Brand stacks Dark Harvest faster than almost any champion because his Blaze explosions hit the entire enemy team simultaneously. The scaling is enormous on a champion who touches all five enemies every fight.
  • Cheap Shot — Brand's Q stun and the slow from Rylai's Crystal Scepter both trigger Cheap Shot's bonus true damage. Since Brand applies CC or slows with virtually every combo, Cheap Shot adds reliable extra damage to every trade and teamfight rotation.
  • Eyeball Collection — Flat ability power that stacks through takedowns. Brand's high damage output in fights means he's frequently involved in kills and assists, stacking Eyeball Collection quickly. The completed bonus provides a meaningful AP boost on a champion who scales well with ability power.
  • Ultimate Hunter — Reduces Pyroclasm's cooldown with each unique champion takedown. Brand's R is his most impactful ability in teamfights, and having it available more frequently means more opportunities for devastating multi-target bounces. In a game where Brand assists on kills against all five enemies, Ultimate Hunter stacks fast.

Secondary — Sorcery

  • Manaflow Band — Grants bonus maximum mana each time Brand hits an enemy champion with an ability, stacking up to 250 bonus mana plus mana regeneration. Brand's combo is mana-hungry, and Manaflow Band ensures he doesn't run out of mana during extended laning phases. The mana sustain is especially valuable for support Brand who doesn't build mana items early.
  • Scorch — Adds bonus magic damage when hitting an enemy champion with an ability, on a short cooldown. Brand already pokes heavily in lane with E-W, and Scorch amplifies every trade. The extra burn damage stacks with Blaze passive and Liandry's for an absurd amount of damage-over-time in lane.

Recommended Item Build

Based on data from over 14,000 ranked Brand matches tracked on dodge.gg, here's the highest winrate build path.

Early Game (0–10 min)

  • Spellthief's Edge — The AP support starting item that generates gold when Brand damages enemy champions. Brand's frequent poke with E-W procs Spellthief's constantly, generating gold faster than almost any other support. The ability power and mana regeneration directly fuel his aggressive laning.
  • Boots of Swiftness — Movement speed is critical for an immobile mage like Brand. Swifties help him position for skill shots, dodge enemy abilities, and avoid getting caught out. The slow resistance also reduces the effectiveness of enemy slows that would otherwise make Brand an easy target.
  • Control Ward — Vision control is essential for a champion with no escape. Knowing enemy positions lets Brand position aggressively for poke without getting flanked, and denying enemy vision creates opportunities for surprise combos from fog of war.

Core Build (10–20 min)

  • Liandry's Anguish — Brand's signature mythic item and the most synergistic item in the game for his kit. Liandry's burn damage stacks with Blaze passive for relentless percent-health damage over time. Against tanky targets, the combined burn from Blaze and Liandry's shreds health bars in seconds. The ability haste, mana, and ability power round out everything Brand needs.
  • Rylai's Crystal Scepter — Adds a slow to all of Brand's abilities, which is transformative for a champion with no innate crowd control outside of Q stun. Rylai's slow makes landing the Q stun setup dramatically easier, keeps enemies inside Blaze explosion range, and enables Cheap Shot procs on every ability. The health also helps Brand survive being focused.
  • Sorcerer's Shoes — Magic penetration boots that amplify all of Brand's damage. Upgrading from Swifties to Sorcerer's Shoes when Brand completes his core gives him a massive damage spike, especially against squishier targets who haven't built magic resist yet.

Late Game (25+ min)

  • Void Staff — Percent magic penetration that ensures Brand's damage stays relevant as enemies build magic resist. By late game, most teams have some MR, and Void Staff cuts through it to keep Blaze explosions and ability damage lethal. The most important damage multiplier in Brand's late-game build.
  • Morellonomicon — Applies Grievous Wounds to all enemies hit by Brand's abilities. Since Brand's AoE hits the entire enemy team, he's the single best Grievous Wounds applier in the game. Against any team with healing, Morellonomicon on Brand reduces healing output across all five enemies simultaneously.
  • Zhonya's Hourglass — The armor and stasis active give Brand survivability against assassins and divers. In teamfights, Brand can cast his full combo then Zhonya's while his passive explosions and Pyroclasm bounces continue to deal damage. The stasis buys time for cooldowns to come back up and for teammates to peel threats off him.

Ability Priority

  1. Pyroclasm (R) — Level at 6, 11, and 16. Each rank massively increases the damage per bounce and reduces cooldown. Pyroclasm is Brand's teamfight-winning ability, and higher ranks mean each bounce hits harder while being available more frequently for objective fights and skirmishes.
  2. Pillar of Flame (W) — Max first. Each rank increases the base damage and bonus damage against ablaze targets. W is Brand's primary poke, waveclear, and damage tool — it has the highest base damage in his kit and the delayed AoE hits become devastating at max rank. Lower cooldown means more frequent poke in lane and fights.
  3. Conflagration (E) — Max second. Each rank increases damage and reduces cooldown. E is Brand's most reliable ability since it's point-and-click, and maxing it second gives him stronger burst combos and faster AoE spread in teamfights. The cooldown reduction matters for applying Blaze stacks quickly to multiple targets.
  4. Sear (Q) — Max last. Q is primarily used for its stun, which doesn't improve with rank — the stun duration stays at 1.5 seconds at all levels. One point gives Brand his crowd control, and additional ranks only increase the damage slightly. The stun utility is what matters, not the scaling.

Playstyle Tips

Laning Phase

Brand's laning phase is about relentless poke with E-W combo and threatening all-ins once enemies drop below half health. Level 1, take E for reliable poke that applies Blaze. Level 2, take W and start the E-W combo: E the enemy to apply Blaze, then immediately W on top of them for the bonus ablaze damage. This combo is easy to land since E is point-and-click and the Blaze application makes W deal 25% bonus damage.

At level 3 with Q, Brand has kill pressure. The full combo is E-Q-W: E to apply Blaze, Q to stun the ablaze target, W on the stunned target for guaranteed damage and three Blaze stacks triggering the passive explosion. With ignite, this combo kills most squishy targets from 60% health.

Manage mana carefully — Brand's combo costs a lot of mana early, and going OOM removes all lane pressure. Space out your E-W pokes rather than spamming on cooldown, and try to hit both the enemy support and ADC with W's AoE to maximize Spellthief's procs.

Mid Game

Mid-game Brand is about fighting around objectives and punishing teams that group in tight spaces around Dragon and Baron. Brand's damage spikes hard after Liandry's Anguish, and his teamfight presence becomes enormous. Look for fights in the jungle and around objectives where enemies are forced to cluster in narrow corridors — Pyroclasm bounces and Blaze explosions are at their deadliest in tight spaces.

Position on the backline of your team and look for E-W poke on grouped enemies before fights start. If enemies are clumped, R into the group to start bouncing and watch the passive explosions chain through the team. Save Q for self-peel or to stun a priority target who walks into range.

Ward aggressively around objectives before fights break out. Brand's lack of escape makes him vulnerable to flanks, and getting caught out before a Dragon fight removes his team's biggest damage source.

Late Game

Late-game Brand is a teamfight monster whose passive explosions deal percent max health damage to entire teams. Death timers are long and objective fights decide games, which plays directly into Brand's strength: he deals the most damage when five enemies fight in a confined area around Baron or Elder Dragon.

Position carefully in teamfights — Brand needs to be in ability range to cast his combo but cannot afford to be the target of enemy engage. Stand behind your frontline, cast E-W on the nearest cluster of enemies, R into the group, and use Q to stun anyone who dives onto you. After your initial combo, Zhonya's if you're being focused while your passive explosions and Pyroclasm bounces finish the job.

In late-game picks, E-Q-W is a guaranteed kill combo on most squishies when paired with a teammate to follow up. Brand with full items can one-combo any ADC or mage who gets caught by the Q stun. Look for picks on enemies who walk through unwarded areas of the map.

Matchups

Favorable

  • Leona — Brand destroys Leona lanes because he punishes her for engaging. When Leona E-Q dashes onto Brand or his ADC, Brand can E-W the clumped Leona and ADC for massive AoE damage and Blaze explosions on both. Leona wants to go all-in, but Brand's damage in all-ins is enormous, and the resulting 2v2 favors Brand's side because of the passive AoE.
  • Nautilus — Similar to Leona, Nautilus engages into Brand's strength. When Nautilus hooks Brand's ADC and walks into melee range, Brand lands E-W on both Nautilus and the enemy ADC for easy AoE damage and Blaze stacks. Nautilus is also tanky enough that Brand's percent-health passive burn is extremely effective against him.
  • Yuumi — Brand bullies Yuumi lanes because Yuumi provides no threat in the 2v2. Brand can freely E-W poke the enemy ADC without worrying about Yuumi retaliating, and Yuumi's healing can't keep up with Brand's sustained burn damage. When Brand hits level 6, Pyroclasm bouncing between Yuumi and her host is devastating.

Even

  • Lulu — Lulu can polymorph Brand to interrupt his combo and shield her ADC to mitigate poke. Her Whimsy speed-up helps her ADC dodge Brand's W. However, Brand outscales Lulu hard in teamfights, and Lulu can't prevent the passive explosions from hitting the entire team. Lane is controlled by Lulu, but teamfights favor Brand.
  • Thresh — Thresh's Flay interrupts Brand's positioning, and Dark Passage lantern saves hooked allies from Brand's follow-up damage. However, Brand's poke is harder for Thresh to handle than most engage supports expect, and if Thresh misses hook, Brand can freely poke. The lane trades are close and skill-dependent.
  • Karma — Karma's shield absorbs Brand's poke and her Mantra-Q trades back effectively. The lane is a poke war that neither side dominates. Karma provides more utility in mid-game skirmishes, but Brand outscales massively in full 5v5 teamfights. The matchup is defined by who generates more impact in the transitions.

Unfavorable

  • Morgana — Black Shield blocks Brand's Q stun, which is devastating because the stun is the setup for his guaranteed combo. Without the Q stun, Brand's W is easy to dodge, and Morgana can push the wave with W to deny Brand's poke positioning. Morgana also outranges Brand with Dark Binding, punishing aggressive Brand positioning.
  • Xerath — Xerath outranges Brand significantly, poking with Q and W from distances where Brand can't retaliate. Brand needs to be in E range to start his combo, but Xerath punishes any forward positioning with long-range poke. Xerath's E stun also keeps Brand at bay, and his superior range makes laning miserable.
  • Zyra — Zyra matches Brand's poke damage while outranging him and providing more zone control with plants. Brand can't easily walk up for E-W combo when Zyra's plants are blocking the path and dealing damage. Zyra's ultimate also knocks up and disrupts Brand's positioning in all-ins, and her plant damage adds up faster than Brand's burn in lane trades.
