Best Lulu Build & Guide (2026) — League of Legends

The definitive Lulu build guide for 2026. Optimal items, runes, ability order, playstyle tips, and matchup advice backed by data from thousands of ranked League of Legends matches.

Lulu is League of Legends' Fae Sorceress — an enchanter support who polymorphs enemy threats into harmless critters, shields allies with the help of her faerie companion Pix, speeds up and empowers carries with Whimsy, and enlarges teammates with Wild Growth to knock up and slow entire enemy teams. Lulu excels at enabling hypercarry ADCs by amplifying their attack speed, providing layered shielding and crowd control, and shutting down enemy divers with a point-and-click polymorph that removes them from the fight entirely. Whether you're a support main who wants to turn your Kog'Maw or Vayne into an unkillable damage dealer or a player who loves the versatility of a kit that can both protect allies and neutralize threats with a single button press, this guide covers everything you need to dominate with Lulu in 2026.

Lulu Overview

Lulu operates as an enchanter support who builds ability power, ability haste, and heal/shield power items to protect and empower her teammates. Her companion Pix, the faerie, is central to her identity — Pix follows Lulu by default but can be sent to allies or enemies with Help, Pix!, changing how Glitterlance fires and providing additional auto-attack damage to whichever champion Pix is attached to.

Pix, Faerie Companion (Passive) causes Pix to fire a barrage of three bolts toward Lulu's basic attack target, dealing magic damage to the first enemy each bolt hits. When Help, Pix! is cast on an ally, Pix transfers to that ally and fires bolts based on the ally's basic attacks instead. Pix's bolts add meaningful magic damage to every auto-attack, making Lulu's early lane trades surprisingly strong — the three-bolt barrage adds up to significant chip damage that enemy bot lanes underestimate. When Pix is on an allied hypercarry, the bolts add bonus magic damage to every one of their auto-attacks, supplementing their physical damage with an on-hit magic component that enemies cannot itemize against easily.

Glitterlance (Q) fires two magic bolts — one from Lulu and one from Pix — toward a target point, dealing magic damage to all enemies hit and slowing them by 80% that decays over 2 seconds. The two-bolt mechanic means Glitterlance can hit enemies from unexpected angles when Pix is positioned away from Lulu, either on an ally or on an enemy via Help, Pix!. The massive 80% decaying slow is Lulu's primary poke and kiting tool in lane — hitting an enemy ADC with Q makes it nearly impossible for them to chase or trade back effectively for the duration.

Whimsy (W) is Lulu's most versatile ability with entirely different effects on allies and enemies. Cast on an ally or herself, Whimsy grants bonus attack speed and bonus movement speed for several seconds. Cast on an enemy, Whimsy polymorphs the target into a harmless critter for a short duration, silencing them, disarming them, and reducing their movement speed. Polymorph is one of the strongest point-and-click crowd control abilities in the game — it completely removes an enemy's ability to fight for its duration, shutting down assassins mid-combo, interrupting channels, and neutralizing divers who try to reach the backline. The ally cast turns carries into attack speed machines, making Whimsy the ideal buff for hypercarry ADCs during their power spikes.

Help, Pix! (E) has different effects on allies and enemies. Cast on an ally, Lulu sends Pix to shield them, granting a damage-absorbing shield for 2.5 seconds while Pix follows the ally for 6.25 seconds. Cast on an enemy, Lulu sends Pix to the enemy, dealing magic damage and revealing them for 4 seconds. Help, Pix! is Lulu's core enchanter ability — the shield absorbs meaningful damage during trades and teamfights, and attaching Pix to an ally lets Glitterlance fire from the ally's position for creative angles. Casting E on an enemy and then Q can catch opponents off-guard because one bolt fires from the enemy's position.

Wild Growth (R) instantly enlarges a target ally champion, knocking up all nearby enemies for 0.75 seconds. The enlarged ally gains a large amount of bonus health for 7 seconds and emits an aura that slows nearby enemies. Wild Growth is one of the most powerful defensive ultimates in the game — it provides immediate crowd control with the knockup, a massive health buffer that can save an ally from lethal burst, and a persistent slow aura that makes it difficult for enemies to stay near the enlarged champion. Casting R on a diving bruiser or the ADC being focused creates instant disruption while keeping the ally alive through damage that would otherwise kill them.

Strengths

  • Lulu's Whimsy polymorph is the only point-and-click hard crowd control in the enchanter class that completely disables an enemy champion, removing their ability to cast spells, auto-attack, or use items for the duration — this makes Lulu the hardest counter to assassins and divers who rely on getting onto the backline and executing their combo before being stopped — When a Zed, Talon, or Katarina jumps onto Lulu's carry, pressing W on the assassin turns them into a critter before they can deal damage, completely wasting their engage cooldowns and leaving them vulnerable to the team's counterattack
  • Lulu provides the most layered protection of any enchanter because she can shield with E, grant bonus health with R, polymorph the biggest threat with W, and slow pursuers with Q all within a few seconds — this stacking of defensive tools means Lulu's carry must be hit by an enormous amount of damage to actually die through all of Lulu's protection — The combination of E shield, R bonus health, and R knockup on the same ally means the carry has a damage buffer, crowd control peeling, and a slow aura deterring enemies all from Lulu's abilities alone
  • Whimsy's ally cast grants both attack speed and movement speed, making Lulu the ideal support for hypercarry ADCs like Kog'Maw, Vayne, and Jinx because the attack speed steroid amplifies their already-high DPS while the movement speed helps them kite and reposition during fights — Casting W on a Kog'Maw during his Bio-Arcane Barrage window multiplies his damage output dramatically, and the movement speed ensures he can stay at the right range to keep attacking
  • Pix's three-bolt barrage on every auto-attack adds substantial magic damage that scales with ability power, and transferring Pix to an allied carry with E means their auto-attacks deal bonus magic damage on every hit — this mixed damage profile makes it difficult for enemies to itemize defensively because they need both armor and magic resist — In the late game with enchanter items amplifying Lulu's AP, Pix's bolts on a rapid-attacking ADC add significant DPS that bypasses the enemy's armor stacking

Weaknesses

  • Lulu has very low base damage and cannot meaningfully threaten kills on her own, meaning she relies entirely on her teammates to convert her buffs and crowd control into kills and objectives — Unlike mage supports like Zyra or Brand who deal significant damage independently, Lulu's damage is negligible after the laning phase. If Lulu's carries are behind or unable to deal damage, her shields and buffs are empowering weak champions that cannot capitalize on the advantages she creates
  • Lulu's kit is heavily single-target — she can only shield one ally, polymorph one enemy, and buff one champion's attack speed at a time, meaning she struggles in teamfights where multiple allies are under threat simultaneously — Against area-of-effect team compositions that damage the entire team at once, Lulu's single-target E shield and W buff can only save one person while the rest of the team takes unmitigated damage. Enchanters like Sona or Seraphine who provide team-wide healing and shielding handle multi-target threats better
  • Lulu is extremely squishy with low base health and no built-in sustain or self-peel beyond her own polymorph and ult, meaning she dies instantly to any assassin or burst mage who catches her isolated from her team — Lulu's defensive tools are most effective when cast on allies. Using polymorph or ult on herself to survive means those abilities are not available to protect the carry, creating a lose-lose scenario. A flanking assassin who targets Lulu first forces her to choose between saving herself or saving her ADC
  • Lulu's laning phase poke is weaker than aggressive mage supports and her engage potential is nonexistent, meaning she can be pushed out of lane by supports who force fights or poke from long range — Lulu wants to play reactively in lane, shielding her ADC and trading back when the enemy steps forward. Against supports like Zyra, Xerath, or Brand who poke from outside Lulu's range, she cannot retaliate effectively and her shield alone is not enough to absorb repeated long-range harass

Recommended Runes

Primary — Summon Aery (Sorcery)

  • Summon Aery — Sends Aery to damage enemies when Lulu deals damage or to shield allies when Lulu buffs them. Summon Aery is Lulu's optimal keystone because it procs on every Help, Pix! shield cast, adding a bonus shield on top of E's shield for maximum protection. When Lulu pokes with Q or auto-attacks with Pix bolts, Aery travels to the enemy for bonus damage. The dual offensive and defensive functionality matches Lulu's playstyle of poking in lane with Pix and shielding her carry in fights.
  • Manaflow Band — Grants permanent bonus mana when hitting enemy champions with abilities, up to a cap, then grants mana regeneration. Manaflow Band solves Lulu's mana issues in lane by rewarding her for poking with Q. Each Glitterlance hit on an enemy champion stacks Manaflow Band, and once fully stacked the bonus mana regeneration lets Lulu cast E, W, and Q freely in the mid game without running dry during extended fights.
  • Transcendence — Grants ability haste at levels 5 and 8, and reduces remaining basic ability cooldowns by 20% on champion takedowns. Ability haste is critical for Lulu because lower cooldowns on E, W, and Q mean more shields, more polymorphs, and more slows in teamfights. The takedown cooldown reduction is powerful in fights where Lulu assists on multiple kills and gets her shield and polymorph refreshed for repeated casts.
  • Scorch — Deals bonus magic damage to enemy champions when hitting them with an ability. Scorch adds damage to Lulu's Q poke and auto-attack trades in lane, making each Glitterlance cast deal meaningful chip damage that pressures the enemy. The extra damage from Scorch helps Lulu win level 1-3 trades and establish lane pressure during the early laning phase.

Secondary — Resolve

  • Bone Plating — After being hit by an enemy champion, the next three instances of damage from that champion within a short window are reduced. Bone Plating protects Lulu from burst trades in lane — when an aggressive support like Leona or Nautilus engages on her, Bone Plating reduces the damage from the first three hits of their combo, giving Lulu time to polymorph the threat and back away. The damage reduction is especially valuable against all-in lanes that try to kill Lulu before she can react.
  • Revitalize — Increases healing and shielding power, with increased effectiveness on low-health targets. Revitalize directly amplifies Help, Pix! shield value, Aery's bonus shield, and Wild Growth's bonus health. On low-health allies, the increased shielding can save a carry who would otherwise die to one more auto-attack. The multiplicative scaling with enchanter items makes Revitalize increasingly valuable as Lulu completes her build.

Recommended Item Build

Based on data from over 12,000 ranked Lulu matches tracked on dodge.gg, here's the highest winrate build path.

Early Game (0–10 min)

  • World Atlas — Grants health and generates gold through the support item passive when nearby minions die. World Atlas is Lulu's starting support item that provides income generation without requiring her to last-hit minions. The health bonus adds survivability in lane, and the gold generation ensures Lulu can complete her enchanter items on a support budget.
  • Ionian Boots of Lucidity — Grants ability haste and reduces summoner spell cooldowns. Ionian Boots are optimal for Lulu because the ability haste reduces E, W, and Q cooldowns, letting her shield and polymorph more frequently in skirmishes. The summoner spell cooldown reduction means Flash and Heal are available more often, which is critical for a squishy enchanter who relies on summoner spells for survival.
  • Forbidden Idol — Grants ability power and increases healing and shielding power. Forbidden Idol is the key enchanter component that directly amplifies Help, Pix! shield value through the heal and shield power passive. It builds into Lulu's core items and provides an immediate noticeable increase in shield strength on every E cast.

Core Build (10–20 min)

  • Dream Maker — Grants ability power, health, ability haste, and increases healing and shielding power. Dream Maker provides a passive that stores charges over time and empowers Lulu's next shield or heal on an ally, granting the ally bonus armor and magic resist while causing their auto-attacks to deal bonus magic damage. Dream Maker is Lulu's ideal first completed item because it turns every Help, Pix! shield into a triple buff — the shield absorbs damage, the bonus resistances make the carry tankier, and the on-hit magic damage amplifies their DPS. On hypercarry ADCs who auto-attack rapidly, Dream Maker's on-hit damage adds up significantly.
  • Ardent Censer — Grants ability power, mana regeneration, and increases healing and shielding power, with a passive that grants bonus attack speed and on-hit magic damage to allies Lulu shields. Ardent Censer transforms Help, Pix! into an even more potent carry steroid. Shielding the ADC grants them bonus attack speed and on-hit damage on top of Pix's bolts and Dream Maker's on-hit effect — a single E cast with Ardent now provides a shield, Pix attachment, Aery bonus shield, Ardent attack speed, and multiple sources of on-hit magic damage. For hypercarry ADCs, Ardent Censer Lulu is one of the most powerful two-champion combinations in the game.
  • Moonstone Renewer — Grants ability power, health, ability haste, and increases healing and shielding power. Moonstone Renewer's passive grants bonus healing and shielding power that stacks when in combat, amplifying every Help, Pix! shield during teamfights. The scaling heal and shield power means Lulu's shields grow stronger the longer a fight lasts, synergizing with her spam-heavy playstyle of casting E on cooldown to keep her carry protected.

Late Game (25+ min)

  • Mikael's Blessing — Grants ability power, mana regeneration, magic resistance, and increases healing and shielding power, with an active that cleanses crowd control from an ally. Mikael's Blessing gives Lulu an answer to enemy crowd control that polymorph alone cannot address. The active cleanse removes stuns, roots, and other disabling effects from a priority ally, saving them from lethal crowd control chains that would otherwise kill them through Lulu's shields.
  • Redemption — Grants ability power, health, mana regeneration, and increases healing and shielding power, with an active that calls down a beam of light to heal allies and damage enemies in an area. Redemption gives Lulu an area-of-effect healing tool to complement her single-target shields, and the heal/shield power passive stacks with her other enchanter items to multiply her shield values. The active can be cast from extreme range and even while dead.
  • Shurelya's Battlesong — Grants ability power, ability haste, health, and mana regeneration, with an active that grants bonus movement speed to Lulu and nearby allies. Shurelya's Battlesong provides a team-wide speed boost that enables engages, disengages, and objective rotations. The active combined with Whimsy's movement speed buff gives Lulu's team unmatched mobility for chasing down enemies or retreating from unfavorable fights.

Ability Priority

  1. Wild Growth (R) — Level at 6, 11, and 16. Each rank increases the bonus health granted and the slow aura strength. Higher-rank Wild Growth provides a significantly larger health buffer and a more powerful slow that makes it harder for enemies to stay near the enlarged ally. The increased bonus health at each rank transforms R from a save tool into a massive teamfight disruption that makes the target nearly unkillable for its duration.
  2. Help, Pix! (E) — Max first. Each rank increases the shield value and the damage on enemy cast. Maxing E first is essential because it is Lulu's most frequently cast ability and the core of her enchanter identity. Higher shield values keep allies alive through more damage, and the shield is the trigger for Aery, Ardent Censer, Dream Maker, and every other enchanter passive Lulu builds. Every point in E directly increases the value Lulu provides to her team.
  3. Whimsy (W) — Max second. Each rank increases the attack speed bonus on ally cast and extends the polymorph duration on enemy cast. Higher W ranks make the ally attack speed steroid significantly stronger for hypercarry ADCs, and the longer polymorph duration gives more time for the team to punish the polymorphed target. The polymorph duration increase from rank 1 to max is substantial and often determines whether the team can kill the polymorphed diver.
  4. Glitterlance (Q) — Max last. Each rank increases Q's damage and reduces its cooldown, but Lulu's damage is not a priority after the laning phase. A single point in Q provides the 80% decaying slow that Lulu needs for poke and kiting, and additional ranks add only modest damage. Q's value is in its slow utility, which does not scale with rank.

Playstyle Tips

Early Game / Laning Phase

Lulu's early game focuses on trading efficiently with auto-attack Pix bolts and Q poke to win short trades, protecting her ADC from enemy all-ins with E shield and W polymorph, and establishing lane presence through the threat of her versatile kit. Lulu wants short, favorable trades that leverage Pix's damage while keeping her ADC healthy.

In lane, look for auto-attack trades whenever the enemy ADC steps forward to last-hit. Lulu's auto-attacks with Pix bolts deal surprisingly high damage in early levels — the three bolts add meaningful magic damage on top of the auto-attack, and with Aery and Scorch the single auto-trade deals significant chip damage. Follow up auto-attacks with Q for the 80% slow if the enemy tries to trade back, preventing them from chasing or retaliating.

When your ADC wants to trade, cast E on them to provide a shield and transfer Pix. The shielded ADC now has Pix firing bolts on their auto-attacks, adding magic damage to every hit. This makes your ADC's trades significantly stronger because enemies take both physical and magical damage, and the shield absorbs return damage. After shielding your ADC, cast Q from Pix's new position for an unexpected angle that catches enemies off-guard.

Hold W for reactive peeling in most lane situations. If the enemy Leona presses E or the enemy Nautilus lands a hook, polymorph the engaging support to stop their combo completely. The polymorph prevents them from casting follow-up abilities, giving your ADC time to reposition and avoid the all-in. Do not use W offensively in lane unless you are certain the enemy cannot engage while it is on cooldown — polymorph is Lulu's strongest defensive tool and having it available deters enemy aggression.

Mid Game

Mid-game Lulu with Dream Maker and Ardent Censer is a teamfight-enabling enchanter who empowers her carry with layered shields and attack speed steroids, neutralizes enemy divers with polymorph, and provides fight-winning disruption with Wild Growth's knockup and slow aura. The mid game is where Lulu's protective kit reaches its stride with completed enchanter items amplifying her shields.

In skirmishes and teamfights, position behind your carries and focus on casting E on the ally taking the most damage or the ally about to deal the most damage. A single E cast on your ADC now provides a shield, Pix attachment for bonus auto-attack damage, Aery bonus shield, Ardent Censer attack speed, and Dream Maker on-hit damage — five separate buffs from pressing one button. Prioritize shielding your highest-DPS ally to maximize the offensive steroids.

Save W polymorph for the enemy's biggest threat. When the enemy assassin, bruiser, or fed carry commits to a fight, polymorph them at the moment they would deal the most damage. Polymorphing a Zed after he appears from Death Mark, a Katarina during her ult channel, or a Master Yi during his Highlander removes their damage from the fight for the crucial seconds where they would otherwise kill your team. Do not waste polymorph on tanks or supports who are not threatening your carries.

Use Wild Growth proactively or reactively depending on the situation. If your frontline initiator dives into the enemy team, R them for the knockup disruption and bonus health to survive the initial burst. If an enemy dives onto your ADC, R the ADC to knock up the diver, give them bonus health to survive, and apply the slow aura to prevent the enemy from staying in range. The knockup is instant and cannot be cleansed, making it reliable crowd control in chaotic teamfights.

Late Game

Late-game Lulu with full enchanter build is a teamfight force multiplier who transforms her hypercarry into an unkillable damage dealer through massive shields, attack speed steroids, on-hit damage stacking, Wild Growth bonus health, and point-and-click polymorph that removes the enemy's biggest threat from every fight. The late game requires Lulu to maximize the value of every ability cast while positioning safely.

In late-game teamfights, your priority is keeping your strongest carry alive and outputting maximum damage. Cast Help, Pix! on them on cooldown — with full build, a single E gives your carry a massive shield, Aery bonus shield, Pix bolt damage on every auto, Ardent Censer attack speed and on-hit damage, and Dream Maker resistances and on-hit damage. Follow E with W on the same carry for the attack speed and movement speed steroid. Your ADC with Lulu's full-build E and W active is dealing dramatically more damage than without buffs while being protected by shields that absorb multiple abilities.

Use Mikael's Blessing active to cleanse critical crowd control. If the enemy Ashe arrows your ADC or the enemy Leona ults them, Mikael's removes the CC instantly and gets your carry back to dealing damage. Between Mikael's cleanse, W polymorph on divers, E shield, and R knockup plus health, Lulu provides four separate layers of protection that the enemy team must burn through to kill the carry.

Position Wild Growth usage for maximum knockup value. The knockup hits all enemies near the targeted ally, so casting R on a carry who is being surrounded by multiple enemies knocks up all of them simultaneously. In the late game where death timers are long and a single teamfight decides the game, a well-timed Wild Growth that knocks up three enemies while saving your carry can single-handedly win the fight.

Matchups

Favorable

  • Pantheon — Pantheon is an aggressive all-in support who relies on stunning a target with Shield Vault and bursting them down. Lulu directly counters Pantheon because Whimsy polymorph stops his combo after he stuns in — the moment Pantheon jumps onto Lulu's ADC, she shields the ADC with E to absorb the burst and polymorphs Pantheon to prevent follow-up damage. Pantheon's all-in pattern requires him to get into melee range and stay there, which Whimsy and Glitterlance slow make impossible.
  • Swain — Swain is a mage support who tries to pull enemies with Nevermove root and sustain through fights with Demonic Ascension drain. Lulu counters Swain because Whimsy polymorph interrupts his ultimate channeling and prevents him from draining health in the middle of fights. Swain's short range and lack of burst mean Lulu's shields absorb his damage easily, and her Q slow prevents him from reaching her carry to pull them in.
  • Blitzcrank — Blitzcrank is a hook support who tries to land Rocket Grab to pull enemies into kill range. Lulu counters Blitzcrank's hook engages because even if Blitzcrank hooks Lulu's ADC, she can immediately shield them with E, polymorph Blitzcrank with W to prevent his follow-up knockup and burst, and ult her ADC with R if they are in danger. Lulu's layered protection negates Blitzcrank's one-dimensional hook-and-kill pattern, and her Q slow prevents Blitzcrank from running up for a point-blank grab.

Even

  • Janna — Janna is an enchanter support who excels at disengage with Monsoon knockback and empowering carries with Eye of the Storm's bonus AD. The matchup is even because both enchanters protect carries exceptionally well — Lulu's polymorph shuts down divers while Janna's tornado and ult push them away. Janna's W poke trades evenly with Lulu's auto-attack Pix harass, and both scale similarly with enchanter items. The lane outcome depends on ADC matchup and jungle influence.
  • Nami — Nami is an enchanter support who combines healing, poke, and crowd control with Tidecaller's Blessing and Tidal Wave. The matchup is even because Nami's sustain from W bounce healing matches Lulu's shielding, and both champions empower their carries with steroids — Nami's E grants on-hit slow and damage while Lulu's W grants attack speed. Nami's bubble is harder to land than Lulu's polymorph but sets up more kill pressure. Both scale well into the late game.
  • Thresh — Thresh is a hook support who combines pick potential with lantern utility and Flay peel. The matchup is even because Lulu can polymorph Thresh when he hooks in to stop his Flay follow-up, but Thresh's lantern brings a jungler or midlaner that Lulu's single-target polymorph cannot stop alone. If Thresh lands a hook on Lulu's ADC, her E shield and R knockup can save them, but repeated hooks eventually create a kill. Both supports have strong peel but express it differently.

Unfavorable

  • Renata Glasc — Renata Glasc is an enchanter support with Hostile Takeover, an ultimate that forces enemies to attack their own allies. Renata counters Lulu because Hostile Takeover bypasses all of Lulu's protection — shielding and buffing the ADC is meaningless when Renata's ult turns the ADC against their own team. Renata's Bailout also provides a second life to her carry that Lulu cannot match, and Renata's longer range on abilities lets her poke Lulu without retaliation.
  • Seraphine — Seraphine is a mage-enchanter hybrid who deals significant area-of-effect damage while providing team-wide healing and shielding. Seraphine outscales Lulu because her abilities hit the entire team while Lulu's are single-target. Seraphine's long-range Q poke chunks Lulu and her ADC from outside Lulu's effective range, and Encore's charm engage threatens kills through Lulu's shields. In teamfights, Seraphine's team-wide shields and heals provide more total value than Lulu's single-target protection.
  • Sona — Sona is a scaling enchanter who provides team-wide auras for damage, movement speed, and damage reduction. Sona outscales Lulu because her passive auras buff all nearby allies simultaneously while Lulu can only buff one champion at a time. In lane, Sona's Q poke and sustain from W healing trade evenly or favorably against Lulu, and Sona's Crescendo ultimate provides a team-wide stun that Lulu has no equivalent engage tool to match. Sona's late-game team-wide power far exceeds Lulu's single-target focus.
