Best Morgana Build & Guide (2026) — League of Legends

The definitive Morgana build guide for 2026. Optimal items, runes, ability order, playstyle tips, and matchup advice backed by data from thousands of ranked League of Legends matches.

Morgana is League of Legends' fallen angel — a mage-support hybrid whose Dark Binding root is one of the longest crowd control abilities in the game at up to 3 seconds, whose Black Shield grants complete CC immunity to any ally it protects, and whose Tormented Shadow provides persistent area-denial damage that zones enemies off objectives and waves. Morgana excels at neutralizing engage-heavy supports by shielding their primary CC targets, catching enemies out of position with a binding that locks them in place long enough for any teammate to follow up, and controlling teamfights with Soul Shackles' massive area stun that forces enemies to either break the tether or eat a devastating 2-second stun. Whether you are a support player who loves shutting down enemy Leonas, Nautiluses, and Blitzcranks with a perfectly timed spell shield, a mid laner looking for a safe waveclear mage who scales into a teamfight monster, or a climbing player who wants a champion that punishes predictable engage patterns while providing both damage and utility, this guide covers everything you need to dominate with Morgana in 2026.

Morgana Overview

Morgana operates as a catch-and-peel support whose power comes from her ability to lock down a single target for up to 3 seconds with Dark Binding, protect her carry from any form of crowd control with Black Shield's magic-damage-absorbing CC immunity, melt enemies who stand in Tormented Shadow's damage zone, and chain multiple enemies in place with Soul Shackles for a fight-winning area stun. Unlike enchanters who rely on sustained healing and shields, Morgana's defensive utility comes from the binary nature of Black Shield — either the enemy's CC is blocked entirely, or it isn't — which makes her the definitive counter to hard-engage compositions.

Soul Siphon (Passive) restores health equal to 18% of post-mitigation ability damage Morgana deals to champions, large minions, and medium or large monsters. Soul Siphon provides Morgana with sustain that most supports lack — every Dark Binding, Tormented Shadow tick, and Soul Shackles pulse heals her, which keeps her healthy during extended lane trades and skirmishes. The healing is most noticeable during mid-game fights where Tormented Shadow is ticking on multiple targets and Soul Shackles is chaining nearby enemies, giving Morgana surprising durability for a squishy mage. In lane, the passive sustain from W on the wave helps Morgana stay healthy without spending gold on potions after her initial buy.

Dark Binding (Q) fires a projectile that roots the first enemy hit for 2 to 3 seconds based on rank, dealing 80 to 300 base damage plus 90% AP as magic damage. Dark Binding has a 1300 range, 140 width, and 1200 projectile speed with a 10-second cooldown and 50 to 70 mana cost. Dark Binding is Morgana's signature ability and the longest non-ultimate root in League of Legends — at max rank, a 3-second root gives any teammate enough time to close the gap and deal their full damage rotation. The root duration alone makes Dark Binding one of the highest-value skill shots in the game: landing a single Q on a carry in the mid game can result in a kill from any allied damage dealer within range. The 90% AP ratio also means Morgana's Q chunks hard when she builds AP items. In lane, Dark Binding is the primary tool for setting up kills with the ADC — a landed Q on the enemy ADC or support often forces Flash or results in a kill when followed by Tormented Shadow and the ADC's burst.

Tormented Shadow (W) creates a cursed area at the target location for 5 seconds, dealing magic damage per half-second to enemies standing inside. The minimum damage per tick is 9 to 35 base plus 10% AP, scaling up to a maximum of 18 to 70 base plus 20% AP based on the target's missing health — the total minimum damage over the full duration is 90 to 350 plus 100% AP, scaling up to 180 to 700 plus 200% AP against low-health targets. Tormented Shadow has a 12-second cooldown that is reduced by 5% each time Soul Siphon triggers, a 70 to 110 mana cost, 900 cast range, and 280 radius. Tormented Shadow is Morgana's area-denial and waveclear tool — placing W under an enemy rooted by Q guarantees the full duration of damage since they cannot move, and the missing-health scaling means the damage accelerates as enemies get lower. In support, W is primarily used to follow up Q roots for maximum damage and to zone enemies off objectives. In mid lane, W is the primary waveclear tool that lets Morgana shove and roam.

Black Shield (E) grants an allied champion or Morgana herself a magic damage shield for 5 seconds that blocks 100 to 320 base plus 70% AP magic damage and grants complete immunity to crowd control effects while the shield holds. Black Shield has a 26 to 16 second cooldown based on rank, an 80 mana cost at all ranks, and 800 cast range. Black Shield is the most powerful single-target anti-CC ability in the game — while the shield holds, the target is completely immune to all forms of crowd control including knockups, suppressions, and displacements. The shield only absorbs magic damage, so physical damage and true damage pass through it without reducing the shield amount but also without removing the CC immunity. Black Shield defines Morgana's identity as an anti-engage support — a perfectly timed E on your ADC as Leona's Zenith Blade connects means the ADC takes no magic damage and is not stunned, completely negating the engage. The long cooldown at early ranks means Morgana must choose carefully when to use it, and enemies who bait out Black Shield before committing their real engage gain a significant window of opportunity.

Soul Shackles (R) chains all nearby enemy champions within 625 range, dealing 200 to 350 base damage plus 80% AP as magic damage, slowing them by 20%, revealing them, and granting Morgana 20% to 60% bonus movement speed toward chained enemies. After 3 seconds, if the tether is not broken by moving out of range, Soul Shackles detonates for the same damage again and stuns all remaining targets for 1.5 to 2 seconds based on rank. The total potential damage is 400 to 700 plus 160% AP. Soul Shackles has a 120 to 100 second cooldown and 100 mana cost. Soul Shackles is a teamfight-warping ultimate that forces enemies to make an impossible choice: stay near Morgana and eat a multi-person stun that lets her team follow up, or blow Flash and dashes to break the tether and scatter the formation. The 20% to 60% movement speed bonus toward chained targets helps Morgana stay in range, and casting Zhonya's Hourglass during the 3-second tether window keeps Morgana alive while the chains tick down. A five-person Soul Shackles into Zhonya's into full-team stun is one of the most devastating teamfight combos in League of Legends.

Strengths

  • Black Shield grants complete crowd control immunity to any ally while absorbing magic damage, making Morgana the single best counter to engage-heavy compositions — a well-timed E on your carry when Leona, Nautilus, Blitzcrank, or Pyke commits their engage negates their entire kit and wastes their cooldowns, turning what should be a kill for the enemy into a failed all-in where your team can punish the overextension — Morgana's E defines the support meta in draft because the mere threat of Black Shield discourages enemy teams from picking engage supports, and when they do pick into Morgana, they must play around a 16-second cooldown window to find openings
  • Dark Binding is a 3-second root at max rank with 1300 range, making it the longest non-ultimate root in the game and one of the most punishing skill shots to land — a single Q on an enemy carry guarantees that any teammate within range can close the gap and deal their full damage rotation, turning a random pick in the mid game into a free kill and potential objective take — The binding duration is so long that even supports with minimal damage can walk up and contribute to the kill, and at 90% AP ratio the binding itself chunks for significant damage
  • Soul Shackles forces every nearby enemy to either break the tether by flashing away or eat a multi-person 2-second stun that lets Morgana's entire team follow up — the Zhonya's Hourglass combo of R into Stasis means Morgana can become invulnerable while the chains tick down, guaranteeing the stun detonation even if the enemy team focuses her — Soul Shackles has the rare property of being a teamfight-winning ultimate that does not require precise aiming, only positioning, making it consistent even in chaotic fights
  • Morgana's kit provides both offensive catch potential and defensive peel in a single champion, meaning she is never useless regardless of game state — if Morgana falls behind, Black Shield still provides full CC immunity and Dark Binding still roots for 3 seconds, making her one of the best supports in the game from behind because her utility does not scale with gold — Unlike damage-oriented supports who become irrelevant when behind, Morgana's crowd control duration and CC immunity are equally powerful at 0 items or 6 items

Weaknesses

  • Morgana is extremely vulnerable when Black Shield is on cooldown — the 26-second cooldown at rank 1 means there is a massive window where the enemy can engage freely, and skilled opponents will bait out E with a fake engage or minor ability before committing their real all-in during the cooldown window — In lane, if Morgana uses E on a poke ability instead of saving it for the real engage, the enemy support has 20+ seconds to freely engage without fear of CC immunity
  • Dark Binding is a slow-moving skill shot that is blocked by minions, making it unreliable in lane when the enemy positions behind their wave — Morgana's entire offensive pattern depends on landing Q first, and if the enemy ADC and support stand behind minions, Morgana has no way to initiate trades or set up kills until the wave thins — Against players who understand wave positioning, Morgana can go entire laning phases without landing a meaningful binding
  • Morgana provides no sustain, shields that block physical damage, or meaningful poke for her ADC outside of her abilities, making her less useful in lanes that do not involve heavy CC — against enchanter supports like Sona, Soraka, or Milio who provide persistent healing and shielding, Morgana's single Black Shield is insufficient to win sustained trades and she is outscaled in lane utility — When Black Shield has nothing to block because the enemy support does not use hard CC, Morgana loses half her kit's value
  • Morgana is immobile with no dashes or escapes, and her only self-peel is landing a Q on the enemy diving her — if an assassin or bruiser flanks Morgana and she misses Dark Binding, she has no way to escape and will be killed before Soul Shackles can detonate — Morgana's positioning in teamfights must be precise because she needs to be close enough to R enemy carries but far enough that she does not get burst down before the 3-second tether completes

Recommended Runes

Primary — Arcane Comet (Sorcery)

  • Arcane Comet — Launches a damaging comet at the enemy when you hit them with an ability, dealing adaptive damage. Arcane Comet is optimal for Morgana because Dark Binding's root guarantees the comet lands since the enemy cannot move to dodge it — a 2-to-3-second root means the comet connects every single time Q lands, adding significant poke damage to every successful binding. Tormented Shadow also continually reduces the comet cooldown since each tick of damage counts toward the cooldown refund, making the comet available more frequently than on most champions.
  • Manaflow Band — Hitting enemy champions with abilities permanently increases your maximum mana, stacking up to 250 bonus mana, after which it grants mana regeneration. Manaflow Band solves Morgana's mana issues in lane — Dark Binding costs 50 to 70 mana and Tormented Shadow costs 70 to 110, meaning frequent ability usage drains her limited support-item mana income quickly. The bonus mana and eventual regeneration let Morgana fish for Q bindings without running out of mana before a critical fight.
  • Transcendence — Grants ability haste at levels 5 and 8, and at level 11 champion takedowns reduce remaining ability cooldowns. Transcendence provides the ability haste that Morgana desperately needs — lower cooldowns on Q mean more binding opportunities, lower cooldowns on E mean Black Shield is available more often, and the level 11 takedown reset means landing a good Q that leads to a kill immediately refreshes her abilities for the next pick. Ability haste is Morgana's most valuable stat because her entire kit is gated by cooldowns.
  • Scorch — Damaging an ability burns the target for bonus magic damage over time. Scorch adds guaranteed damage to every Q and W hit in lane, increasing Morgana's poke pressure during the laning phase when damage matters most for establishing lane dominance. The burn damage combined with Arcane Comet means a landed Q deals the binding damage, comet damage, and Scorch burn all at once, chunking enemies for a surprising amount of health from a single skill shot.

Secondary — Domination

  • Cheap Shot — Deals bonus true damage to enemy champions whose movement is impaired. Cheap Shot triggers on every Dark Binding root and Soul Shackles slow, adding true damage to abilities Morgana is already landing. The true damage is especially valuable because it ignores resistances, meaning even tanky targets take the full Cheap Shot damage when rooted. Since Morgana impairs enemy movement with nearly every offensive ability she uses, Cheap Shot provides consistent bonus damage throughout the game.
  • Ultimate Hunter — Reduces the cooldown of your ultimate ability based on unique champion takedowns. Ultimate Hunter is critical for Morgana because Soul Shackles has a 120-second cooldown at rank 1, and the teamfight-winning power of a multi-person stun means having R available for every fight is a massive strategic advantage. With full stacks, Ultimate Hunter reduces Soul Shackles' cooldown significantly, ensuring Morgana can use her ultimate at every Dragon, Baron, and contested objective fight.

Recommended Item Build

Based on data from over 50,000 ranked Morgana matches tracked on dodge.gg, here's the highest winrate build path.

Early Game (0–10 min)

  • World Atlas — The standard support starting item that generates gold and upgrades into a warding item. World Atlas provides the gold income Morgana needs to reach her core items while also granting health and ability power for early lane trades. The item upgrades into Zaz'Zak's Realmspike, which becomes Morgana's most efficient damage tool.
  • Health Potions (x2) — Sustain Morgana through early lane trades and enemy poke. Morgana needs to stay healthy enough to threaten Q engages and has no innate sustain until Soul Siphon starts dealing meaningful damage with levels and items.

Core Build (10–20 min)

  • Zaz'Zak's Realmspike — The upgraded support item that grants ability power, health, and a passive that deals bonus damage in an area when you hit an enemy champion with an ability. Zaz'Zak's Realmspike is the standard upgrade for Morgana because the passive proc adds burst damage to every Q landing, amplifying her pick potential significantly. The area damage also synergizes with Tormented Shadow for additional zone control, and the AP and health stats are exactly what Morgana wants.
  • Ionian Boots of Lucidity — Grants ability haste and summoner spell haste. Ionian Boots are Morgana's default choice because ability haste reduces cooldowns on all her abilities — more Q attempts means more catch potential, more E availability means better peel, and the summoner spell haste means Flash is available more often for aggressive R-Flash engages or defensive escapes.
  • Liandry's Torment — Grants ability power, health, and a passive that burns enemies for a percentage of their maximum health as magic damage over time. Liandry's synergizes perfectly with Tormented Shadow — the W pool continuously reapplies the burn, meaning enemies standing in the zone take both W's missing-health-scaling damage and Liandry's percentage-health burn simultaneously. Against tanks and high-health targets, Liandry's transforms Morgana from a utility support into a serious damage threat.

Late Game (25+ min)

  • Zhonya's Hourglass — Grants ability power, armor, and an active that makes Morgana invulnerable and untargetable for 2.5 seconds. Zhonya's is the single most important item in Morgana's build because the Stasis active enables the R-Zhonya's combo — flash into the enemy team, cast Soul Shackles, then immediately Zhonya's to become invulnerable while the chains tick down for 3 seconds, guaranteeing the stun detonation even if the enemy team tries to burst Morgana down. Without Zhonya's, enemies simply kill Morgana during the tether window and the stun never lands.
  • Rylai's Crystal Scepter — Grants ability power and health, with a passive that slows enemies hit by abilities. Rylai's makes Tormented Shadow slow enemies standing in the zone, adding persistent area slow to an already-dangerous damage field. The slow also applies on Soul Shackles' initial hit, making it harder for enemies to break the tether and escape the stun detonation. Combined with Liandry's burn, enemies caught in Morgana's W are slowed, burned, and taking escalating missing-health damage simultaneously.
  • Morellonomicon — Grants ability power, health, and applies grievous wounds to enemies hit by abilities. Morellonomicon is the situational anti-heal option when the enemy team has significant healing from champions like Soraka, Yuumi, Aatrox, or lifesteal-heavy ADCs. Tormented Shadow's continuous ticks keep grievous wounds permanently applied to anyone standing in the zone, making Morgana one of the most efficient grievous wounds appliers in the game.

Ability Priority

  1. Dark Binding (Q) — Max first. Each rank increases the base damage from 80 to 300 and increases the root duration from 2 to 3 seconds, making Q Morgana's most impactful ability to max. The root duration increase is the primary reason to max Q — a 2-second root at rank 1 is already strong, but a 3-second root at rank 5 is long enough for any ally to close the gap and burst the target. The damage increase from 80 to 300 base with 90% AP scaling also makes each Q a serious damage threat as the game progresses.
  2. Soul Shackles (R) — Level at 6, 11, and 16. Each rank increases the damage from 200 to 350 per hit, the stun duration from 1.5 to 2 seconds, the movement speed bonus from 20% to 60%, and reduces the cooldown from 120 to 100 seconds. Level 6 is a significant power spike because Soul Shackles gives Morgana a teamfight-winning ultimate that pairs with Zhonya's for guaranteed multi-person stuns. Each additional rank makes the stun longer and the cooldown shorter.
  3. Tormented Shadow (W) — Max second. Each rank increases the minimum damage per tick from 9 to 35 and the maximum damage per tick from 18 to 70, significantly boosting Morgana's sustained damage and waveclear. Maxing W second provides the damage Morgana needs to remain relevant in the mid game — the increased tick damage combined with Liandry's burn makes W zones genuinely threatening, and the missing-health scaling means low targets take enormous damage per tick.
  4. Black Shield (E) — Max last. Each rank increases the shield strength from 100 to 320 and reduces the cooldown from 26 to 16 seconds, but a single point in E already provides the most important aspect — complete CC immunity. The shield strength increase matters less than the cooldown reduction, but since Morgana benefits more from Q and W damage increases during the mid game, E is maxed last. The 16-second cooldown at max rank is still a significant improvement over the 26-second rank 1 cooldown.

Playstyle Tips

Laning Phase

Morgana's early game is about landing Dark Bindings through the minion wave gaps to set up kills with your ADC, using Black Shield reactively to negate the enemy support's engage, and placing Tormented Shadow under rooted targets to maximize guaranteed damage while farming with your support item.

Start Q at level 1 and look for binding opportunities whenever the enemy ADC or support steps away from their minion wave. Dark Binding is blocked by minions, so wave management is critical — when the wave is thin or the enemy steps to the side to harass your ADC, fire Q through the gap. A level 1 root lasts 2 seconds, which is enough time for most ADCs to land two to three auto attacks and an ability, chunking the enemy for a significant portion of their health.

At level 2, take W to follow up on Q roots. The combo is Q root into W placed directly under the rooted target — since the enemy cannot move for 2 seconds, Tormented Shadow deals guaranteed damage for the entire root duration. The combined damage of Q plus W plus Arcane Comet plus Scorch plus the ADC's follow-up is often enough to force a summoner spell or even secure a kill at level 2.

Level 3 is when Morgana's full kit comes online with Black Shield. From this point, your priority shifts to reactive play — save E for the moment the enemy support commits their engage. If the enemy has Leona, Nautilus, Blitzcrank, Pyke, or any hook or dash champion, Black Shield on your ADC as the CC connects completely negates the engage and wastes their cooldowns. The key is timing — using E too early means the enemy waits for it to expire, and using it too late means the CC lands before the shield applies.

Position aggressively when Black Shield is available and defensively when it is on cooldown. The 26-second cooldown at rank 1 is a long window where the enemy can engage freely, so communicate to your ADC when E is down. Stand behind your minion wave to prevent being hooked or engaged on, and fish for Q bindings from behind the safety of your wave.

Mid Game

Mid-game Morgana with Zaz'Zak's Realmspike and Liandry's Torment is a pick-oriented support who roams to land Dark Bindings on unsuspecting enemies in fog of war, controls vision around objectives with her warding item, and uses Soul Shackles plus Zhonya's Hourglass to win contested teamfights at Dragon and Baron.

After completing Liandry's Torment, Morgana's damage becomes genuinely threatening — a landed Q followed by W on the rooted target deals the binding damage, Tormented Shadow ticks, Liandry's burn, Zaz'Zak's proc, Arcane Comet, and Cheap Shot all simultaneously. This damage combination can take half a squishy's health bar from a single skill shot rotation.

Roam to mid lane and jungle entrances to fish for Dark Bindings in fog of war. A binding from fog gives the enemy no time to react, and the 3-second root at max rank gives any nearby ally enough time to collapse for the kill. Ward enemy jungle paths and river brushes before objective spawns, then look for picks on enemies rotating through unwarded territory.

At Dragon and Baron fights, Morgana's Soul Shackles is a teamfight-winning button when combined with Zhonya's Hourglass. The combo is: Flash into the middle of the enemy team, cast R immediately to chain as many enemies as possible, then activate Zhonya's before the enemy team can burst you down. During the 2.5 seconds of Stasis, the Soul Shackles tether continues ticking down, and when Stasis ends the chains detonate and stun every enemy who did not break the tether. A successful R-Flash-Zhonya's combo on three or more enemies wins any teamfight.

Use Black Shield on your carry to prevent the enemy team from interrupting your ADC's damage output. In mid-game fights, the priority target for E is usually whichever ally is being dived by the enemy — if the enemy assassin jumps on your ADC, shield them; if the enemy Malphite ults your mid laner, shield them. Black Shield decisions win and lose teamfights, so always be aware of which enemy ability you need to block.

Late Game

Late-game Morgana with Zhonya's, Rylai's, and Morellonomicon is a teamfight controller whose Dark Binding catches win games outright, whose Soul Shackles plus Zhonya's combo forces enemies to scatter or eat a multi-person stun, and whose Black Shield protects the team's most important carry from any form of crowd control during the decisive fights at Elder Dragon and Baron.

In late-game teamfights, a single landed Dark Binding on an enemy carry can end the game. At max rank, a 3-second root on the enemy ADC means your team has enough time to collapse and kill them before the root expires, turning a 5v5 into a 5v4 that should result in a won teamfight and destroyed Nexus. Fish for Q constantly from fog of war and from behind your frontline — even if most bindings miss, the one that lands can be game-ending.

Soul Shackles plus Zhonya's remains Morgana's most impactful teamfight combo. In late game, the R stun lasts 2 seconds at rank 3, which is enough time for your team to follow up with their own abilities on every stunned target. Look for opportunities to Flash into clustered enemies before channeling R — the movement speed bonus helps maintain tether range, and Zhonya's keeps you alive through the tether duration. If enemies break the tether by flashing away, that is still a win because they have burned mobility cooldowns that cannot be used offensively.

Black Shield priority in late game shifts to whichever ally the enemy team is most likely to focus. If the enemy has a pick composition with hooks and catches, shield your ADC preemptively when you suspect the engage is coming. If the enemy has dive assassins, hold E for the moment they jump. The 70% AP scaling means Black Shield absorbs significant magic damage with items, but the CC immunity is always the more valuable component — even a shield that breaks immediately still blocks the crowd control that triggered it.

Matchups

Favorable

  • Leona — Leona is an all-in engage support whose entire combo relies on landing crowd control abilities. Morgana hard-counters Leona because Black Shield completely negates Zenith Blade's root, Shield of Daybreak's stun, and Solar Flare's stun — when Morgana shields her ADC as Leona engages, Leona's full combo deals reduced damage and applies zero crowd control, leaving her stranded in the middle of Morgana's team with all cooldowns spent. Leona has no way to play around Black Shield other than waiting for the 5-second duration to expire, which means she cannot engage for extended windows.
  • Nautilus — Nautilus is a hook-and-CC support who chains root after root with Dredge Line, Staggering Blow passive, and Depth Charge. Morgana counters Nautilus because Black Shield blocks every form of his crowd control — the hook root, passive root, ult knockup, and Riptide slow are all negated while E is active. A Nautilus who hooks a Black Shielded target wastes his entire engage and is now standing in melee range of two enemies with no CC advantage.
  • Blitzcrank — Blitzcrank's entire identity revolves around landing Rocket Grab to displace an enemy into his team. Morgana is Blitzcrank's worst nightmare because Black Shield prevents the knockup on Rocket Grab and Power Fist, meaning even if Blitzcrank lands a perfect hook, the target is pulled but not knocked up or silenced, allowing them to immediately dash or Flash back to safety. Additionally, if Morgana lands Q on Blitzcrank as he walks forward to hook, the 3-second root means Blitzcrank is stuck in the open and takes free damage.

Even

  • Thresh — Thresh is a hook-and-lantern support who provides engage, disengage, and mobility for his team. The matchup is even because Black Shield blocks Death Sentence hook and Flay knockback, but Thresh can play around E cooldown by using Flay first to bait the shield and then hooking once it expires. Both champions are skill-shot reliant and both provide pick potential with their Q abilities. The lane depends on who lands their abilities more consistently and who manages Black Shield cooldown more effectively.
  • Nami — Nami is an enchanter support who provides healing, poke, and engage with Tidal Wave. The matchup is even because Nami's sustained poke with Ebb and Flow and Tidecaller's Blessing trades well against Morgana, but Morgana's Q root sets up more decisive kills. Black Shield blocks Aqua Prison bubble and Tidal Wave knockup, but Nami does not rely on hard CC for her lane trading pattern. The lane is decided by whether Morgana can land bindings or Nami can poke her out.
  • Lulu — Lulu is an enchanter who provides polymorph CC, shields, and attack speed for her carry. The matchup is even because Lulu's Whimsy polymorph is blocked by Black Shield, but Lulu's overall lane utility with Glitterlance slow, Help Pix shield, and Wild Growth knockup gives her team more tools in extended fights. Morgana has better pick potential with Q, but Lulu has better sustained support for her carry.

Unfavorable

  • Sona — Sona is a scaling enchanter whose persistent poke, healing, and aura buffs ignore Black Shield's value entirely. Sona counters Morgana because her damage comes from Hymn of Valor poke that does not involve hard CC, meaning Black Shield has nothing meaningful to block during laning phase. Sona's sustain from Aria of Perseverance outheals Morgana's poke damage, and her late-game Crescendo has a short enough cooldown that she can bait Black Shield and ult again within the same fight.
  • Milio — Milio is an enchanter whose Cozy Campfire healing, Warm Hugs shielding, and Breath of Life cleanse provide sustained support that outscales Morgana's burst utility. Milio counters Morgana because his ultimate cleanses all crowd control on all nearby allies, meaning even a perfect Dark Binding or Soul Shackles can be immediately removed. His lane poke with Ultra Mega Fire Kick outranges Morgana's abilities, and his team-wide support is more valuable than Black Shield's single-target protection in late-game fights.
  • Zilean — Zilean is a utility mage whose Time Warp speed boost makes allies impossible to bind, whose Time Bomb poke outranges Morgana, and whose Chronoshift revive negates Morgana's pick potential entirely. Zilean counters Morgana because the movement speed from Time Warp lets his carry dodge Dark Binding consistently, his double-bomb stun requires precise Black Shield timing since it detonates after a delay, and even if Morgana lands a perfect Q into a kill, Chronoshift revives the target and wastes Morgana's cooldowns.
