Nexus Blitz Guide (2026) — Every Event, Best Champions & Winning Strategies
Everything you need to know about Nexus Blitz in League of Legends. How the mode works, every in-game event explained, event reward tier list, best champions for each event, and strategies to dominate this fast-paced game mode.
Nexus Blitz is League of Legends' fastest permanent-rotation game mode. Matches are capped at 18 minutes on a compact two-lane map packed with random in-game events that force constant teamfighting. The mode rewards aggression, adaptability, and teamwork over slow farming and scaling. This guide covers how Nexus Blitz works, every event and reward explained, the best champions to play, and strategies for winning more games.
How Nexus Blitz Works
Nexus Blitz is a 5v5 game mode played on a smaller, jungle-heavy map with two lanes instead of three. Games are fast — most end between 12 and 18 minutes. Gold generation is accelerated, items come online quickly, and random events break out every few minutes that force both teams into chaotic skirmishes.
Map Layout
The Nexus Blitz map has two lanes — a bottom lane and a mid lane — with a large jungle section occupying the top half and a smaller jungle area near the bottom. Each team has a single Nexus, one inhibitor, and turrets protecting their base. An invulnerable turret sits between the jungle camps on each side to discourage early invades.
Roles and Team Composition
Unlike Summoner's Rift, Nexus Blitz uses a 2-1-2 setup with a twist:
- 2 Junglers — both players take Smite and clear camps together. Jungle camps grant 150% experience and gold when shared between two champions, so duo jungling is more efficient than solo
- 1 Mid Laner — holds the mid lane solo, similar to standard mid lane
- 2 Bot Laners — share the bottom lane, typically one carry and one support or bruiser
The dual-jungle setup is unique to Nexus Blitz. Strong jungle duos that can clear fast and rotate to events together have a significant advantage.
Accelerated Pacing
- Increased passive gold and experience — power spikes arrive earlier than on Summoner's Rift
- Jungle camps spawn at 1:05 and respawn 150 seconds after being cleared
- First event fires at approximately 3:00 — the event type is announced during champion select so you can plan ahead
- Events occur every 2–3 minutes after the first, with 2–4 events per game before Sudden Death
- Sudden Death triggers at 18:00 if neither Nexus has fallen — this is the hard time cap
Every Nexus Blitz Event Explained
Events are the heart of Nexus Blitz. A random event fires every few minutes, and the winning team receives a powerful reward buff. Understanding each event and how to win it is the single biggest factor in climbing win rate in this mode.
Bardle Royale (Classic)
A flaming circle closes in on a random area of the map. Champions outside the circle take rapidly increasing damage. The last team with a surviving member wins.
How to win: Champions with sustain, mobility, and zoning excel. Stay near the center of the circle as it shrinks. Use crowd control to push enemies into the fire. Healing and shielding keep your team alive longer than raw damage.
Best champions: Lux, Morgana, Anivia (wall forces enemies into fire), Soraka, Janna, Sett (can ult enemies out of the circle)
Bardle Royale (Paranoia)
Same as Classic Bardle Royale, but all players are nearsighted — vision is drastically reduced, like being hit by Nocturne's ultimate for the entire event. The flaming circle still closes in.
How to win: Stick together as a team. The nearsight makes it easy to get separated and picked off. AoE damage and crowd control are even more valuable when enemies cannot see the abilities coming. Champions with built-in vision tools (Ashe E, Twisted Fate R) partially counter the nearsight.
Best champions: Amumu, Brand (AoE damage in tight spaces), Fiddlesticks (fear in the dark), Kennen, Morgana
Bardle Royale (Juggernaut)
Same shrinking circle, but one random champion on each team is buffed with massively increased health and the On Fire! buff, making them a juggernaut. The juggernaut player deals increased damage and is harder to kill.
How to win: Protect your juggernaut and focus the enemy's juggernaut. The buffed player should frontline aggressively while the rest of the team follows up. If the enemy juggernaut is a squishy champion, focus them down — the buff makes them tanky but not invincible.
Best champions for juggernaut role: Darius, Garen, Sett, Mordekaiser, Illaoi (already strong as frontline fighters — the buff amplifies their kit)
Prize Fight
Both teams are split into a series of 1v1 and 2v2 duels in enclosed arenas. The team that wins the most rounds wins the event. Rounds are best-of-three.
How to win: Individual champion strength matters most here. Duelists and assassins with strong 1v1 kits dominate. In 2v2 rounds, pick a partner with complementary strengths — one tank and one damage dealer, or one CC bot and one burst champion.
Best champions: Fiora, Jax, Yone, Yasuo, Darius, Vayne, Tryndamere (strong 1v1 duelists), Leona + Jinx (strong 2v2 combo)
Loot Teemo
A giant Loot Teemo spawns and wanders around the map. Hitting Teemo grants gold. The team that last-hits Teemo wins the event reward.
How to win: This is an execute race. Save burst abilities and smite for the last hit. Champions with high burst or execute abilities (Cho'Gath R, Jinx R, Jhin 4th shot) can secure the kill. Group as five and chase Teemo together — splitting up lets the enemy team contest.
Best champions: Cho'Gath, Jinx, Jhin, Lee Sin, Nunu (Smite + Q consume for objective secure)
Loot Veigar
Similar to Loot Teemo, but a giant Loot Veigar spawns instead. Veigar fights back — he casts Dark Matter and Event Horizon (his cage) while running away. The team that last-hits Veigar wins.
How to win: Same strategy as Loot Teemo but you need to dodge Veigar's abilities. Spread out slightly to avoid all getting caught in Event Horizon. Tanks can soak Veigar's damage while carries focus on landing the last hit. Mobile champions can dodge Dark Matter more easily.
Best champions: Same as Loot Teemo — burst and execute champions. Tanks like Leona, Nautilus, and Amumu are useful for soaking Veigar's damage.
DPS Check
A massive Teemo dummy spawns for each team. Both teams race to destroy their dummy as fast as possible. The team that kills their dummy first wins.
How to win: Pure damage output wins this event. ADCs, on-hit champions, and anyone with high sustained DPS should focus exclusively on the dummy. Ignore the enemy team entirely — this is a race, not a fight. Champions with attack speed steroids and armor shred destroy the dummy fastest.
Best champions: Master Yi, Jinx, Kog'Maw, Vayne, Tristana, Kayle (hypercarries with high sustained DPS)
URF Deathmatch
All players enter URF mode — abilities have no mana cost and massively reduced cooldowns. Both teams fight in a best-of-three deathmatch surrounded by cheering minions.
How to win: Spam your abilities. Champions that are broken in URF mode are broken here. Poke mages, ability spammers, and champions with low-cooldown CC dominate. Healers and shielders become nearly unkillable when they can cast their abilities nonstop.
Best champions: Lux, Ezreal, Zed, Fizz, Yuumi, Sona, Morgana, Hecarim (all historically dominant in URF)
Protect the Soraka
Two Soraka bots spawn in lane — one for each team. Your goal is to kill the enemy Soraka while protecting your own. The Sorakas heal and throw bananas, making them surprisingly durable.
How to win: Split your team — send assassins or divers to kill the enemy Soraka while your tanks and supports protect yours. Burst damage is critical because Soraka heals herself. Crowd control on the enemy team prevents them from reaching your Soraka.
Best champions: Zed, Talon, Fizz (dive enemy Soraka), Leona, Thresh, Nautilus (peel for your Soraka)
Scuttle Racing
Two Rift Scuttlers race down a track. Each team can help their scuttle by attacking the enemy scuttle or shielding their own. The scuttle that finishes first wins for their team.
How to win: Focus on slowing and damaging the enemy scuttle rather than buffing your own. Champions with slows, stuns, and ranged poke can attack the enemy scuttle from a safe distance. Shielding and healing your own scuttle also helps it survive.
Best champions: Ashe (permaslow), Nasus (Wither), Zilean (slow), any champion with persistent slows or ranged damage
King of the Hill
A capture zone appears on the map. Teams must stand in the zone to capture it, similar to a domination point. The team that holds the zone long enough wins.
How to win: Zone control champions are king. AoE damage and crowd control clear enemies off the point. Tanks can stand on the point and soak damage while carries deal damage from behind. Do not fight outside the zone — standing on the point is what matters.
Best champions: Heimerdinger (turrets hold the zone), Zyra, Swain, Illaoi, Gangplank (AoE zone control), Amumu, Leona (AoE CC to clear the point)
Sudden Death (18:00)
If neither Nexus has fallen by 18 minutes, Sudden Death begins. Both Nexuses transform into walking Nexus Minions (golems) that march toward the center of the map. The team that destroys the enemy Nexus Minion first wins the game.
How to win: This is a final teamfight around the Nexus Minions. Protect your Nexus Minion while focusing the enemy's. The Nexus Minion is essentially a tanky objective — treat it like a moving Baron. Champions with high sustained damage to burn down the Nexus Minion, or tanks who can peel enemies off your Nexus Minion, are crucial.
Best champions: ADCs and on-hit champions for DPS, tanks for frontline protection
Event Reward Tier List
Winning events is important because rewards are powerful. Here is a ranking of every possible event reward from best to worst.
S Tier Rewards
| Reward | Effect | Why It Is S Tier | |--------|--------|-----------------| | Guardian Angels | All five team members receive a one-time resurrection effect | A free second life for your entire team is game-winning in the next teamfight or event | | Elder Dragon Buff | Grants the Elder Dragon execute and burn | Enemies below a health threshold are instantly executed — this closes games | | Poro King | Summons the Poro King who heals allies, damages enemies, and tanks turret shots | A pushing powerhouse that lets you siege and dive freely |
A Tier Rewards
| Reward | Effect | Why It Is A Tier | |--------|--------|-----------------| | Blessing of Blitzcrank | Your turrets and cannon minions periodically fire Blitzcrank hooks that pull enemies | Turns your turrets into pick machines — enemies cannot walk near your towers safely | | Statikk Shock | All team members gain a Statikk Shiv passive that deals bonus magic damage on autos | Free waveclear and extra teamfight damage for your entire team | | Battle Sled | Your team can ride a sled from base that crashes through enemies and structures | A surprise engage tool and fast travel system — great for catching enemies off guard | | Cloud Soul | Grants the Cloud Drake Soul buff with bonus movement speed | Permanent movement speed advantage helps with rotations, chasing, and event positioning | | Ocean Soul | Grants the Ocean Drake Soul buff with health and mana regeneration | Sustain between fights means your team never has to base |
B Tier Rewards
| Reward | Effect | Why It Is B Tier | |--------|--------|-----------------| | Catapult of Champions | Your team can launch from a catapult in base to any location on the map | Fun and useful for surprise engages, but has a travel time and can be predicted | | Blessing of Janna | Each team member gains a large shield until broken | A one-time shield is useful but breaks after absorbing a set amount of damage | | B.F. Shields | Each team member gains a hefty shield | Similar to Janna's Blessing — a one-time buffer that gets consumed quickly in teamfights | | Blessing of Soraka | Health and mana regeneration when out of combat for 3 minutes | Useful for sustained map pressure but does not help during active fights |
Best Champions for Nexus Blitz
Some champions are consistently dominant in Nexus Blitz because their kits thrive on the compact map, constant teamfighting, and event-based gameplay.
S Tier — Dominant Picks
| Champion | Why They Excel | |----------|---------------| | Lux | AoE damage, CC, and shielding make her strong in almost every event. Long-range poke dominates the small map. URF Deathmatch goddess | | Amumu | AoE stun ultimate is devastating in Bardle Royale and King of the Hill. Tanky enough to survive events. Excellent jungler in the duo jungle | | Kayle | Weak early but scales absurdly fast with accelerated gold. Once she hits level 16, she wins DPS Check solo and dominates teamfights | | Master Yi | Resets and on-hit damage make him the best DPS Check champion. Alpha Strike dodges abilities in events. Duo jungle clears incredibly fast | | Swain | Drain-tank ultimate thrives in the constant close-range teamfighting. Strong in Bardle Royale and King of the Hill | | Yone | High damage, mobility, and teamfight ultimate. Strong in Prize Fight 1v1s and devastating in URF Deathmatch | | Brand | Passive burn spreads through grouped teams. Nexus Blitz forces grouping, so Brand's AoE damage is always maximized |
A Tier — Strong Picks
| Champion | Why They Excel | |----------|---------------| | Darius | Resets on Noxian Guillotine tear through teamfights. Strong in Prize Fight and Bardle Royale | | Jinx | Get Excited passive resets make her a cleanup monster in chaotic events. Top-tier DPS Check champion | | Heimerdinger | Turrets dominate King of the Hill and zone control events. Hard to dislodge from objectives | | Cho'Gath | Feast secures Loot Teemo and Loot Veigar. Stacking health makes him unkillable in Bardle Royale | | Soraka | Healing keeps your team alive in Bardle Royale and extended fights. Silence zone is strong in King of the Hill | | Lillia | AoE sleep is devastating in cramped event spaces. Fast jungle clear with duo partner | | Taric | AoE invulnerability ultimate wins Prize Fights and Bardle Royale. Strong duo jungle with any melee partner | | Jax | Dominant duelist in Prize Fight. Counter Strike dodges autos in DPS-heavy events | | Jarvan IV | Cataclysm traps enemies in Bardle Royale and King of the Hill. Strong duo jungler |
Champions to Avoid
Late-game scaling champions that need 25+ minutes to come online (Kassadin, Vayne, Kog'Maw without a protect comp) struggle because Nexus Blitz games end before they reach full power. Split-push champions like Tryndamere and Yorick are also weaker because events force grouping — you cannot ignore events to split a side lane.
Exception: Kayle scales faster in Nexus Blitz due to accelerated gold and XP. She is one of the few scaling champions that consistently reaches her power spikes before the game ends.
Strategies for Winning Nexus Blitz
1. Win Events — They Decide Games
Event rewards snowball harder than kills or turrets. A single Guardian Angels or Elder Dragon reward can swing the entire game. Prioritize event participation over farming or pushing. If an event fires, drop everything and group with your team.
2. Draft for Events, Not for Lane
Your champion pick should prioritize event performance over laning strength. A champion who is strong in 3 out of 5 possible events will carry harder than a champion who wins lane but contributes nothing to Bardle Royale or Prize Fight. AoE damage, crowd control, and sustain are the three most valuable traits.
3. Duo Jungle Efficiently
Your two junglers should stick together. Jungle camps grant 150% experience and gold when shared, making duo clearing more efficient than splitting up. Coordinate your jungle path to clear one side, rotate to the other, and be ready to collapse on events together.
4. Play Aggressively Early
The accelerated gold and XP mean that early kills translate into faster item spikes. Do not play passive — contest jungle camps, fight over scuttle crabs, and look for skirmishes before the first event. The team that enters the first event with a gold lead has a significant advantage.
5. Save Ultimates for Events
It is tempting to use your ultimate for a random skirmish, but event fights are far more impactful. If an event is about to fire (the announcer gives a warning), save your cooldowns. Winning the event reward is worth more than a single kill.
6. Adapt to the Event Announcement
The first event is announced during champion select. If you see Bardle Royale coming, pick champions with sustain and zone control. If Prize Fight is first, pick strong duelists. Later events are random, but you can adjust your item build and playstyle based on what event types have already appeared.
7. Focus the Nexus After Winning Events
After winning an event reward, push your advantage immediately. Do not farm the jungle — take turrets, push inhibitors, and pressure the enemy base. Rewards like Poro King, Blessing of Blitzcrank, and Battle Sled are strongest when used for sieging, not for farming.
Common Mistakes in Nexus Blitz
- Ignoring events to farm — events decide games. Skipping an event to clear jungle camps is the fastest way to lose
- Splitting up during events — most events reward the team that groups and focuses together. Solo plays lose Bardle Royale and King of the Hill
- Using ultimates before events — wasting your ult on a random fight means you enter the next event at a disadvantage
- Playing split-push champions — the compact map and constant events punish champions who want to be alone in a side lane
- Not adapting to the juggernaut buff — in Bardle Royale Juggernaut, if the enemy's juggernaut is a carry, focusing them first is often correct
- Forgetting Sudden Death exists — if the game reaches 18 minutes, both Nexuses start walking. Position near your Nexus Minion and prepare for the final fight
