Best Rengar Build & Guide (2026) — League of Legends

The definitive Rengar build guide for 2026. Optimal items, runes, ability order, playstyle tips, and matchup advice backed by data from thousands of ranked League of Legends matches.

Rengar is League of Legends' Pridestalker — a ferocity-fueled assassin who stalks enemies from brush and camouflage, leaping onto targets with Unseen Predator, shredding them with Savagery's empowered auto-attack reset, cleansing crowd control with Battle Roar, locking down targets with Bola Strike's root, and hunting the most dangerous enemy with Thrill of the Hunt's camouflage and bonus damage. Rengar is played primarily as a jungler (48.71% win rate on OP.GG Patch 16.06 Emerald+, 49.7% on LoLalytics, B/C+ Tier) with a 3.64% pick rate and 8.39% ban rate. Whether you are a one-shot assassin who deletes squishies from stealth with a full ferocity combo, a bruiser-style jungler who uses empowered Battle Roar to survive extended skirmishes, or a macro-focused player who uses Thrill of the Hunt's vision to track enemy movements and set up picks, this guide covers everything you need to dominate with Rengar in 2026.

Rengar Overview

Rengar operates as an assassin/diver whose power comes from his unique ferocity resource system that empowers his basic abilities, devastating burst from Savagery's empowered auto-attack reset, survivability from Battle Roar's grey health recovery and crowd control cleanse, pick potential from Bola Strike's root, and unparalleled flanking with Thrill of the Hunt's camouflage. He is played almost exclusively as a jungler (3.64% pick rate, 48.71% win rate on OP.GG Emerald+, 49.7% on LoLalytics) with niche viability as a top laner in brush-heavy matchups. His ban rate is 8.39%, reflecting his feast-or-famine reputation and the frustration of being one-shot from stealth.

Unlike sustained-damage junglers like Graves or Kindred who fight front-to-back in teamfights, Rengar is designed to eliminate a single target as quickly as possible — his ferocity system rewards chaining abilities in rapid succession, Unseen Predator's brush leap provides a gap-closer without cooldown, Savagery's empowered version grants massive attack speed and bonus damage, and Thrill of the Hunt's camouflage enables flanks that the enemy cannot anticipate. Rengar's challenge is snowballing early kills through Bonetooth Necklace stacks to become an unstoppable hunter before the enemy groups and peels for their carries.

Unseen Predator (Passive) causes Rengar's basic attacks while in brush to gain massively increased range (745 + 100% bonus attack range) and leap to the target. Leaping to enter combat generates 1 Ferocity. Rengar's basic abilities generate Ferocity, stacking up to 4. Ferocity expires after 1.5 seconds out of combat. At 4 Ferocity, Rengar's next basic ability is empowered, consuming all stacks and granting 30/40/50% (at levels 1/7/13) bonus movement speed for 1.5 seconds. Rengar also collects trophies on his Bonetooth Necklace from unique champion takedowns, permanently granting 1-36% bonus AD based on the number of trophies (1 trophy: +1% bonus AD, 2: +4%, 3: +9%, 4: +16%, 5: +25% bonus AD, Head of Kha'Zix: +30% bonus AD). This passive is the engine of Rengar's assassin identity — brush control enables constant leaping in the jungle and river, and Bonetooth Necklace rewards aggressive early ganks with permanent scaling.

Savagery (Q) empowers Rengar's next two basic attacks within 3 seconds with 40% bonus attack speed, and the first attack deals 20/55/90/125/160 (+105% total AD) bonus physical damage. Savagery resets the basic attack timer. Ferocity-empowered Savagery deals 35-260 (based on level)(+20% AD) bonus physical damage and grants 50-107% (based on level) bonus attack speed for 5 seconds. Savagery has a 6/5.5/5/4.5/4-second cooldown. This is Rengar's primary damage tool — the auto-attack reset means Savagery effectively triples his damage output in a burst window, the empowered version's massive attack speed steroid lets him shred through targets even after the initial burst, and the short cooldown means it is available for nearly every trade in the jungle.

Battle Roar (W) causes Rengar to roar, dealing 50/80/110/140/170 (+80% AP) magic damage to all nearby enemies within 450 units. Rengar passively stores 50% of post-mitigation damage taken in the last 1.5 seconds as grey health (100% from monsters), and Battle Roar converts that grey health into actual healing. Ferocity-empowered Battle Roar deals 50-240 (based on level)(+80% AP) magic damage, heals the grey health, and cleanses all crowd control effects. Battle Roar has a 16/14.5/13/11.5/10-second cooldown. This is Rengar's survivability tool — the grey health recovery keeps him healthy during jungle clears, the empowered version's CC cleanse is one of the most powerful defensive tools in the game allowing Rengar to break free from stuns, roots, and suppressions, and the AoE damage adds to his burst combo.

Bola Strike (E) causes Rengar to throw a bola in the target direction, dealing 55/100/145/190/235 (+80% bonus AD) physical damage to the first enemy hit and slowing them by 30/45/60/75/90% for 1.75 seconds. Bola Strike reveals the target for 2 seconds. Ferocity-empowered Bola Strike deals 50-335 (based on level)(+80% bonus AD) physical damage and roots the target for 1.75 seconds instead of slowing. Bola Strike has a 10-second cooldown at all ranks and a range of 1000 units. This is Rengar's crowd control tool — the slow enables Rengar to stick to targets during chases, the empowered root locks down priority targets during ganks and picks, and the ability can be cast mid-leap from Unseen Predator for guaranteed hits on the leap target.

Thrill of the Hunt (R) activates Rengar's predatory instincts for 12/16/20 seconds, granting 40/50/60% bonus movement speed. After a 2-second delay, Rengar becomes camouflaged, gains Unseen Predator (allowing leaps without brush), and reveals the nearest enemy champion within 2500/3000/3500 units for the full duration. The nearest detected enemy within 1600 range is marked, and Rengar's next leap attack against the marked target deals 100% AD bonus physical damage and reduces their armor by 15/20/25 for 4 seconds. Thrill of the Hunt has a 100/90/80-second cooldown. This is Rengar's signature ability — the camouflage enables flanks from angles the enemy cannot ward, the movement speed lets him reposition across the map, the armor reduction amplifies his burst combo, and the enemy champion reveal provides invaluable information for tracking the enemy jungler and setting up picks.

Strengths

  • Rengar's ferocity system combined with Unseen Predator's brush leap gives him one of the fastest and most devastating burst combos in the game — leaping from brush or camouflage into empowered Savagery, Battle Roar, Bola Strike, and a second Savagery deletes squishy targets in under one second — At full build with 5 Bonetooth Necklace stacks, Rengar's leap combo deals upwards of 2000+ physical damage before the target can react, and the empowered Bola Strike root prevents them from flashing or dashing away
  • Battle Roar's empowered CC cleanse is one of the strongest defensive tools for any assassin in the game — it removes all crowd control effects including suppressions, making Rengar uniquely resistant to the peel and lockdown that normally counters assassins — When the enemy exhausts their key CC ability on Rengar, empowered Battle Roar cleanses it instantly, allowing Rengar to continue his assassination attempt while also healing grey health from the damage he absorbed
  • Thrill of the Hunt's camouflage and enemy champion reveal create unparalleled pick potential and map control — the ability to flank from any angle without being spotted by wards forces the enemy team to group tightly or risk being assassinated — At rank 3, the 3500-unit detection radius means Rengar knows where the nearest enemy is at all times during the ultimate, enabling him to avoid ambushes, track the enemy jungler, and find isolated targets for assassination
  • Bonetooth Necklace's permanent AD scaling from unique champion takedowns rewards aggressive early ganking with compounding returns — each trophy makes the next kill easier, creating a snowball loop that turns Rengar into a late-game monster if he secures early kills — With 5 trophies granting +25% bonus AD, Rengar's entire kit scales multiplicatively because Savagery and Bola Strike both scale with AD, meaning a fed Rengar with full stacks deals significantly more damage than his items alone would suggest

Weaknesses

  • Rengar is feast-or-famine — without early kills to stack Bonetooth Necklace and build lethality items, he falls off sharply in the mid and late game because his base damages are moderate and his kit lacks the sustained damage to contribute in teamfights without burst-killing a target — A Rengar who falls behind in the early game becomes a liability, as his only contribution to teamfights is a root from empowered Bola Strike and CC cleanse from empowered Battle Roar, neither of which justifies picking an assassin
  • Rengar's burst combo is heavily telegraphed when using Thrill of the Hunt because the enemy team receives a warning indicator when he is nearby — experienced players immediately group together and position near CC-heavy teammates, making it nearly impossible for Rengar to reach the backline without being instantly locked down — The 2-second delay before camouflage activates and the warning exclamation mark give the enemy time to prepare, and champions with targeted CC like Lulu, Nautilus, and Leona can reliably stop Rengar's leap before he completes his combo
  • Rengar is extremely dependent on brush for his passive leap during laning and jungle skirmishes — in open areas without brush, he loses his primary gap-closer and must rely on Bola Strike slow or empowered Bola Strike root to reach targets, significantly reducing his burst potential — River fights, dragon and baron pits, and open mid-lane skirmishes without nearby brush remove half of Rengar's kit identity, forcing him to walk up and trade without the leap auto-attack reset
  • Rammus, Bel'Veth, and armor-stacking tanks hard-counter Rengar because his entire damage profile is physical — he has no meaningful magic damage or percent-health damage to bypass armor, meaning champions who build Plated Steelcaps and armor items render his burst combo ineffective — Rengar's 41.79% win rate against Rammus and 43.16% against Bel'Veth highlight how devastating armor-heavy matchups are for a champion who needs to one-shot targets

Recommended Runes

Jungle — Conqueror (Precision)

The recommended rune page for Rengar jungle is Conqueror, the dominant keystone with the highest pick rate (44% on OP.GG, 48.35% win rate) and strong synergy with Rengar's rapid ability chaining. Conqueror stacks adaptive force as Rengar lands abilities and auto-attacks, and at full stacks provides bonus AD and omnivamp healing — suited for an assassin who chains multiple abilities and auto-attacks in quick succession.

  • Conqueror — Grants stacking adaptive force per ability hit and auto-attack against enemy champions, with omnivamp healing at maximum stacks. Conqueror is the primary keystone for Rengar because his leap combo (leap auto, Q, W, E, empowered Q) stacks Conqueror rapidly, and the bonus AD amplifies his Savagery damage and Bonetooth Necklace scaling. At full stacks, the omnivamp healing combined with Battle Roar's grey health recovery provides meaningful sustain during extended fights and skirmishes. Conqueror has a 44% pick rate with 48.35% win rate on OP.GG.
  • Triumph — Restores health and grants bonus gold on champion takedowns. Triumph is essential for Rengar's assassination chains — after deleting a squishy target, the burst heal from Triumph can save Rengar from dying to follow-up damage, enabling him to reset and leap onto the next target. The bonus gold also accelerates his lethality item spikes.
  • Legend: Alacrity — Grants stacking bonus attack speed for each champion takedown. Attack speed helps Rengar weave auto-attacks between abilities during his combo and makes empowered Savagery's attack speed steroid even more effective for shredding targets who survive the initial burst.
  • Coup de Grace — Increases damage dealt to enemies below 40% health. Coup de Grace synergizes perfectly with Rengar's assassin role — his burst combo brings targets to low health, and Coup de Grace ensures the final auto-attacks or ability hits secure the kill even against targets with shields or bonus health.

Secondary — Domination

  • Sudden Impact — Grants lethality and magic penetration after dashing or using stealth. Sudden Impact triggers on every Unseen Predator leap and Thrill of the Hunt camouflage activation, granting bonus lethality that amplifies Rengar's burst damage. Since Rengar leaps into every engagement, Sudden Impact provides consistent bonus penetration for his entire combo. Sudden Impact has a 79.4% pick rate on OP.GG.
  • Ultimate Hunter — Reduces the cooldown of Thrill of the Hunt based on unique champion takedowns. Ultimate Hunter is the standard secondary choice because Thrill of the Hunt is Rengar's most impactful ability — reducing its cooldown means more assassination attempts, more map pressure, and more opportunities to snowball. Ultimate Hunter has a 57.9% pick rate on OP.GG.

Stat Shards

  • Adaptive Force — Bonus AD increases the damage of Savagery and Bola Strike, both of which scale with AD. Adaptive Force provides the most damage for Rengar's burst combo.
  • Adaptive Force — A second Adaptive Force shard further amplifies Rengar's burst damage. Double adaptive shards are standard for assassins who prioritize raw damage output.
  • Health Scaling — Bonus health that scales with level provides durability in the mid and late game, helping Rengar survive counter-burst after leaping into the enemy team.

Alternative Keystone — Fleet Footwork

Fleet Footwork is a viable alternative keystone with a 53.1% win rate on OP.GG across 665 games. Fleet Footwork triggers on energized auto-attacks, dealing bonus damage and healing Rengar while granting movement speed. Since Unseen Predator's leap auto-attack charges Fleet Footwork, Rengar can heal on every brush leap during jungle clears, significantly improving his early game health. Fleet Footwork trades burst damage for sustain and is better suited for players who want to power-farm to item spikes rather than force early ganks.

Recommended Item Build

Based on data from ranked Rengar matches tracked across multiple stat sites on Patch 16.6, here are the highest winrate build paths.

Jungle Build

#### Early Game (0-10 min)

  • Gustwalker Hatchling — The recommended jungle pet for Rengar that provides bonus movement speed in brush and river. Gustwalker Hatchling is the optimal starting item because it amplifies Rengar's brush-based playstyle — the bonus movement speed in brush lets him move between camps faster and position for Unseen Predator leaps more effectively. Gustwalker Hatchling has a 50.96% win rate on LoLalytics.
  • Health Potion — A single Health Potion provides additional sustain during the first jungle clear before Battle Roar's grey health recovery becomes efficient enough to keep Rengar healthy.

#### Core Build (10-20 min)

  • Umbral Glaive — Rengar's primary first item, Umbral Glaive grants attack damage, lethality, and ability haste with a passive that detects and instantly destroys nearby wards. Umbral Glaive is the optimal first item for Rengar because it provides raw lethality for his burst combo, ability haste to reduce Savagery and Bola Strike cooldowns, and the ward-clearing passive amplifies his assassination playstyle by denying enemy vision — if the enemy cannot see Rengar coming, they cannot prepare for his leap. Umbral Glaive is the core of Rengar's highest pick rate build path.
  • Ionian Boots of Lucidity — Grants ability haste and summoner spell haste. Ionian Boots are the standard boot choice with a 79.56% pick rate and 49.19% win rate on OP.GG. The ability haste reduces Savagery's already short cooldown and lowers Thrill of the Hunt's cooldown, enabling more frequent assassination attempts. The summoner spell haste also reduces Flash cooldown, which is critical for Flash-Bola combos.
  • Hubris — Grants attack damage and lethality with a passive that grants bonus AD after scoring a champion takedown. Hubris has a 61.48% win rate as a second item paired with Umbral Glaive on OP.GG. The takedown AD bonus snowballs Rengar's lead — each kill makes the next kill easier, mirroring the Bonetooth Necklace's stacking design and creating compound scaling from both items and passive stacks.

#### Late Game (25+ min)

  • Profane Hydra — Grants attack damage, lethality, and ability haste with a passive cleave that deals AoE damage around the primary target. Profane Hydra has a 56.66% win rate as part of the three-item core (Umbral Glaive + Profane Hydra + Edge of Night). The cleave damage adds significant AoE to Rengar's burst combo, and the ability haste further reduces his cooldowns for faster ferocity cycling.
  • Edge of Night — Grants attack damage, lethality, and a passive spell shield that blocks the next enemy ability. Edge of Night is critical for Rengar's late-game assassination attempts because the spell shield absorbs the first CC ability that would normally stop his leap combo — blocking a Lulu Polymorph, Nautilus Hook, or Leona stun allows Rengar to complete his full burst rotation uninterrupted.
  • Lord Dominik's Regards — Grants attack damage, critical strike chance, and bonus armor penetration. Lord Dominik's Regards is the optimal choice when the enemy team builds armor to counter Rengar's lethality — the percentage armor penetration ensures his combo still deals meaningful damage against tanks and bruisers who stack armor.
  • Serylda's Grudge — Grants attack damage, ability haste, and armor penetration with a passive that slows enemies hit by abilities. Serylda's Grudge provides an alternative to Lord Dominik's Regards when Rengar wants both armor penetration and utility — the slow on Bola Strike stacks with its existing slow for near-immobilization.

Ability Priority

Jungle: Q > E > W (R at 6, 11, 16)

  1. Savagery (Q) — Max first. Each rank increases the bonus damage from 20 to 160 (+105% total AD) and reduces the cooldown from 6 to 4 seconds. Maxing Q first provides the most damage output for both jungle clears and ganks because the auto-attack reset is Rengar's primary damage source — every point in Q makes his burst combo stronger and his clear speed faster. Q max has a 52.28% pick rate with 58.33% win rate on OP.GG.
  2. Bola Strike (E) — Max second. Each rank increases the damage from 55 to 235 (+80% bonus AD) and the slow from 30% to 90%. While the cooldown remains 10 seconds at all ranks, the increased slow percentage makes it significantly easier to chase targets during ganks and the damage scaling adds to Rengar's burst combo. The empowered root duration remains 1.75 seconds at all ranks.
  3. Battle Roar (W) — Max last. Each rank increases the magic damage from 50 to 170 (+80% AP) and reduces the cooldown from 16 to 10 seconds. W's primary value — the grey health recovery and empowered CC cleanse — does not scale with rank as effectively as Q's damage or E's slow. The cooldown reduction is useful but less impactful than the offensive improvements from Q and E.
  4. Thrill of the Hunt (R) — Level at 6, 11, and 16. Each rank increases the duration from 12 to 20 seconds, movement speed from 40% to 60%, detection radius from 2500 to 3500, armor reduction from 15 to 25, and reduces the cooldown from 100 to 80 seconds. Level 6 is Rengar's biggest power spike because Thrill of the Hunt transforms him from a brush-dependent assassin into a map-wide threat who can hunt any isolated target.

Summoner Spells

  • Flash — Flash is the essential summoner spell for Rengar. Flash extends the range of Rengar's engagement — Flash into empowered Bola Strike root catches enemies who position outside leap range. Flash also provides a critical escape tool after a failed assassination attempt when Rengar has no brush to retreat to. Flash-E root into full combo is one of Rengar's most reliable kill setups.
  • Smite — Smite is mandatory for jungle Rengar, providing jungle camp execute damage and objective securing. Smite also upgrades Gustwalker Hatchling into its evolved form, granting enhanced movement speed in brush and river.

Playstyle Tips

Early Game / Jungle Clear (0-14 min)

Rengar's early game is about clearing the jungle efficiently using Savagery's auto-attack reset and Battle Roar's grey health recovery, then using Unseen Predator's brush leap to gank lanes with empowered Bola Strike root for guaranteed crowd control.

Start Savagery (Q) at level 1 for the auto-attack reset during the first camp. Take Battle Roar (W) at level 2 for AoE damage and grey health sustain on multi-monster camps. Take Bola Strike (E) at level 3 for the slow and ranged damage on ganks. Your standard full clear starts on the buff nearest to your bot lane for a leash, then path through camps toward the opposite side of the map.

Your standard gank pattern is: build 3 Ferocity stacks during the jungle clear or by casting abilities on scuttle crab, position in a brush near the lane, leap onto the target with Unseen Predator, cast E (Bola Strike) mid-leap for guaranteed slow, Q (Savagery) for damage, W (Battle Roar) for damage, then use your 4th Ferocity stack for empowered E (root) to lock down the target. The empowered Bola Strike root is critical for securing kills — without it, mobile targets will escape with dashes or Flash.

At level 6, Thrill of the Hunt transforms Rengar's gank potential. Activate R from out of vision, use the 40% movement speed to path behind the enemy laner, leap from camouflage for the bonus damage and armor reduction, then execute the full Ferocity combo. The camouflage bypass of wards makes level 6 ganks extremely difficult for the enemy to anticipate.

Mid Game & Assassination (14-25 min)

Mid-game Rengar with Umbral Glaive, Ionian Boots, and Hubris is a lethal assassin who uses Thrill of the Hunt to find isolated targets on the map, eliminates them with a single combo, then uses the movement speed and Bonetooth Necklace stacks to snowball the game through picks.

Rengar's mid-game priority is finding isolated squishy targets — the enemy ADC farming a side wave, the support warding alone, or the mid laner rotating between lanes. Activate Thrill of the Hunt before the target can see you, use the movement speed to position for the leap, and execute the one-shot combo: leap from camouflage, empowered Q (Savagery) for maximum burst, E (Bola Strike) mid-leap, W (Battle Roar). If the target survives, follow up with a second Q.

Umbral Glaive's ward-clearing passive is critical during the mid game — sweep enemy wards with Oracle Lens while clearing control wards automatically with Umbral Glaive's passive. The combination of denied vision and Thrill of the Hunt camouflage means the enemy never knows where Rengar is, creating constant pressure across the map.

Before major teamfights around Dragon or Baron, consider whether to assassinate or peel. If Rengar has a lead and the enemy carries are squishy, flanking with Thrill of the Hunt to delete the ADC before the fight begins is optimal. If the enemy team has heavy peel and CC, consider using empowered Battle Roar to cleanse CC while diving, or use empowered Bola Strike root on the enemy frontline to peel for your own carries.

Late Game (25+ min)

Late-game Rengar with Profane Hydra and Edge of Night is a high-risk, high-reward assassin who can still one-shot enemy carries if he finds the right angle, but must use Edge of Night's spell shield and empowered Battle Roar's CC cleanse to survive the increased peel and coordination of late-game teamfights.

In the late game, Rengar's assassination windows become narrower as the enemy team groups and positions around their carries. Edge of Night's spell shield is critical — activate it before Thrill of the Hunt to absorb the first CC ability during your leap. If the spell shield is popped, empowered Battle Roar provides a second chance to cleanse follow-up CC.

Late-game objective fights around Baron and Elder Dragon are where Rengar's Thrill of the Hunt vision is most valuable — the detection radius reveals the nearest enemy champion, providing information on enemy positioning before committing to a fight. Use Thrill of the Hunt to scout enemy positions, then decide whether to flank for an assassination or group with your team for a 5v5.

Matchups

Jungle

#### Favorable

  • Qiyana — Rengar wins approximately 62.19% against Qiyana jungle on LoLalytics. Qiyana is a melee assassin who needs to combo abilities in sequence, but Rengar's burst combo is faster and his empowered Bola Strike root prevents Qiyana from completing her combo. In jungle skirmishes, Rengar's superior sustain from Battle Roar's grey health recovery outsustains Qiyana's burst, and his brush leap gives him consistent engage that Qiyana's element-dependent abilities cannot match.
  • Lillia — Rengar wins approximately 56.90% against Lillia jungle on LoLalytics. Lillia is a squishy AP jungler who relies on movement speed and kiting to survive fights. Rengar's Thrill of the Hunt camouflage bypasses Lillia's kiting pattern entirely — she cannot run from an enemy she cannot see. Once Rengar leaps from camouflage, Lillia's low base health means his burst combo kills her before she can stack enough movement speed to escape.
  • Ivern — Rengar wins approximately 56.54% against Ivern jungle on LoLalytics. Ivern is a supportive jungler who creates brush with Brushmaker — ironically, this directly benefits Rengar's Unseen Predator passive by giving him additional brush to leap from during fights. Ivern's low combat stats mean he cannot contest Rengar's invades or duel him at any stage of the game.
  • Jayce — Rengar wins approximately 55.30% against Jayce jungle on LoLalytics. Jayce is a ranged/melee hybrid with moderate burst but no hard crowd control to peel Rengar's leap engage. Once Rengar closes the gap with Unseen Predator or Thrill of the Hunt, Jayce lacks the survivability or CC to prevent the assassination.
  • Aatrox — Rengar wins approximately 55.14% against Aatrox jungle on LoLalytics. Aatrox relies on landing his Q sweetspots to heal and deal damage, but Rengar's leap engage and empowered Bola Strike root lock Aatrox in place during the burst combo. Rengar's burst kills Aatrox before he can stack enough healing from World Ender to survive, and empowered Savagery's damage output overwhelms Aatrox's self-healing.

#### Even

  • Ambessa — Rengar fights approximately even against Ambessa jungle (50.96% win rate on LoLalytics). Both champions are aggressive early-game duelists with high burst damage. The matchup depends on who initiates first — if Rengar leaps from brush with full Ferocity, his burst combo wins. If Ambessa catches Rengar without Ferocity stacks, her sustained damage and mobility can overwhelm him.
  • Zed — Rengar fights approximately even against Zed jungle (50.82% win rate on LoLalytics). Both are AD assassins competing for the same isolated squishy targets. In direct fights, the matchup depends on execution — Zed's Death Mark provides burst and untargetability, while Rengar's empowered Battle Roar can cleanse the Death Mark debuff if timed correctly.
  • Vi — Rengar fights approximately even against Vi jungle (50.34% win rate on LoLalytics). Vi's point-and-click Assault and Battery provides reliable lockdown against Rengar's assassination attempts, but Rengar's empowered Battle Roar cleanses the CC. The matchup revolves around whether Rengar can burst Vi before her armor-stacking build makes her too tanky to kill.

#### Unfavorable

  • Rammus — Rengar loses approximately 58.21% against Rammus jungle (41.79% win rate on LoLalytics). Rammus is Rengar's hardest counter — Defensive Ball Curl reflects physical damage back at Rengar, Puncturing Taunt forces Rengar to auto-attack into the damage reflection, and Rammus's massive armor stacking makes Rengar's entire lethality build nearly useless. Engaging Rammus results in Rengar killing himself through reflected damage.
  • Bel'Veth — Rengar loses approximately 56.84% against Bel'Veth jungle (43.16% win rate on LoLalytics). Bel'Veth's infinite attack speed scaling and Void Coral sustain allow her to out-duel Rengar in extended fights. Bel'Veth's true damage on-hit bypasses armor, and her Above and Below dash provides evasion during Rengar's burst combo.
  • Jarvan IV — Rengar loses approximately 56.04% against Jarvan IV jungle (43.96% win rate on LoLalytics). Jarvan's Cataclysm traps Rengar inside the arena after he leaps onto a target, preventing his escape with Slice and Dice. Jarvan's armor-based build and flag-and-drag knockup also interrupt Rengar's combo and provide peel for his carries.
  • Teemo — Rengar loses approximately 55.56% against Teemo jungle (44.44% win rate on LoLalytics). Teemo's Blinding Dart negates Savagery's auto-attack-based damage, removing Rengar's primary burst tool. Noxious Trap mushrooms provide map-wide vision that reveals Rengar's approach even during Thrill of the Hunt, and Teemo's camouflage passive allows him to avoid detection.
  • Master Yi — Rengar loses approximately 55.23% against Master Yi jungle (44.77% win rate on LoLalytics). Master Yi's Alpha Strike provides untargetability that dodges Rengar's burst combo, Meditate's damage reduction absorbs the remaining damage, and Master Yi's sustained true damage from Wuju Style out-duels Rengar in extended fights after the initial burst is spent.

Recent Patch Changes

Season 2026 — Bug Fix Rescript and Savagery Nerfs

Rengar received significant attention in the 2026 season with a major bug fix overhaul followed by targeted nerfs:

  • Patch 26.1 — Riot delivered a heavy rescript of Rengar, fixing 17 bugs across all of his abilities. The most impactful fixes involved Unseen Predator's brush leap targeting, Thrill of the Hunt's camouflage interactions with other invisible champions, inconsistent Ferocity generation, and spotty wall-leaping. This rescript effectively buffed Rengar indirectly by making his kit function as intended consistently.
  • Patch 26.4 — Savagery (Q) base damage reduced from 30/60/90/120/150 to 20/55/90/125/160, total AD ratio reduced from 100/103.75/107.5/111.25/115% to 105% at all ranks, and empowered Savagery damage adjusted from 30-235 (based on level) to 35-260 (based on level). These nerfs targeted Rengar's early-game burst damage which was deemed too strong following the bug fix rescript and his synergy with new lethality items.

Historical Context — Previous Season Changes

Rengar has historically cycled between assassin and bruiser builds depending on the item meta. The 2025 season saw Rengar settle into a lethality-focused assassin build with Umbral Glaive and Profane Hydra as core items, which has carried over into the 2026 season. His Bonetooth Necklace passive was reworked in a previous season to scale with bonus AD percentage rather than flat AD, which shifted his scaling curve toward multiplicative damage with items.
