Best Tristana Build & Guide (2026) — League of Legends
The definitive Tristana build guide for 2026. Optimal items, runes, ability order, playstyle tips, and matchup advice backed by data from thousands of ranked League of Legends matches.
Tristana is League of Legends' Yordle Gunner — an aggressive, reset-based marksman who rockets into fights with Rocket Jump's resetting leap that deals magic damage and slows on landing before detonating enemies with Explosive Charge's stacking bomb that deals escalating physical damage with each basic attack and ability hit, shreds towers with the same charge mechanic that makes her one of the fastest tower-takers in the game, gains ever-increasing attack range through Draw a Bead's per-level range scaling that gives her 700 range at level 18 making her one of the longest-range ADCs in the late game, ramps her attack speed to extreme levels with Rapid Fire's massive steroid that also reduces Explosive Charge's cooldown on every hit, and blasts enemies away with Buster Shot's point-and-click knockback that deals magic damage and creates distance from threats. She is an ADC who builds critical strike and attack speed items like Yun Tal Wildarrows and Infinity Edge to maximize her burst-and-DPS hybrid playstyle. Tristana is played as a bot lane ADC (52.3% win rate on Patch 16.6 Emerald+, B+ Tier) with a 6.2% pick rate and a 2.8% ban rate. Whether you want to all-in enemies with Rocket Jump engage into Explosive Charge burst combos, demolish towers faster than any other ADC, or scale into a long-range hyper-carry who resets through teamfights with Rocket Jump, this guide covers everything you need to master the Yordle Gunner in 2026.
Tristana Overview
Tristana operates as a burst-and-DPS hybrid ADC whose power comes from Draw a Bead's per-level range scaling that increases her attack range from 550 at level 1 to 700 at level 18 making her one of the longest-range marksmen in the late game, Rapid Fire's massive attack speed steroid that grants up to 120% bonus attack speed while reducing Explosive Charge's cooldown with every basic attack, Rocket Jump's resetting leap that deals magic damage and slows enemies on landing with its cooldown fully resetting on champion takedowns or fully-stacked Explosive Charge detonations, Explosive Charge's stacking bomb that attaches to enemies or towers and deals escalating physical damage as Tristana hits the target with basic attacks and abilities up to 4 stacks for a devastating 120% bonus damage detonation, and Buster Shot's point-and-click knockback that deals magic damage and blasts the target and surrounding enemies away. She is played as a bot lane ADC (52.3% win rate on Patch 16.6 Emerald+, B+ Tier) with a 6.2% pick rate.
Unlike traditional hyper-carry ADCs who passively farm for 25 minutes before becoming relevant, Tristana provides aggressive all-in burst at level 2-3 through the Rocket Jump into Explosive Charge combo that can 100-to-0 enemies with support follow-up — the Rocket Jump leap closes the gap instantly while applying a 40% slow, Explosive Charge's bomb attaches to the target and stacks damage with every auto attack and Rapid Fire's attack speed steroid, and if the fully-stacked bomb kills the target or Tristana gets an assist the Rocket Jump cooldown resets for an immediate second leap to chase or escape; unmatched tower-taking speed through Explosive Charge's active that can be placed on towers and stacked with basic attacks for massive structure damage that destroys plates and towers faster than any other ADC in the game; scaling range advantage through Draw a Bead that makes Tristana increasingly safe in teamfights as she levels up, reaching 700 range at level 18 which outranges most marksmen; and self-peel through Buster Shot's point-and-click knockback that blasts assassins and divers away from Tristana, creating immediate distance that other ADCs can only dream of. Tristana wins by aggressively all-inning in lane with Rocket Jump and Explosive Charge burst, taking towers with Explosive Charge, and transitioning into a long-range DPS carry who resets through teamfights.
Draw a Bead (Passive) increases Tristana's basic attack range, Explosive Charge range, and Buster Shot range by 0-150 units based on level, for a total of 550-700 range at levels 1-18. Draw a Bead is the foundation of Tristana's late-game scaling — the per-level range increase means Tristana naturally becomes safer and more effective in teamfights as the game progresses, reaching 700 range at level 18 which exceeds Caitlyn's base 650 range and matches Kog'Maw's Bio-Arcane Barrage extended range, allowing Tristana to auto-attack from positions where most enemy champions and even other ADCs cannot reach her.
Rapid Fire (Q) has a 20-second cooldown and costs no mana. Tristana empowers her cannon, gaining 60 / 75 / 90 / 105 / 120% bonus attack speed for 7 seconds. During Rapid Fire, Tristana's basic attacks reduce Explosive Charge's cooldown by 0.5 seconds (1 second against champions). Rapid Fire is Tristana's DPS steroid that transforms her into a machine gun — the 120% bonus attack speed at max rank is one of the highest attack speed steroids in the game, and the Explosive Charge cooldown reduction during Rapid Fire means Tristana can cycle through multiple Explosive Charges in extended fights, stacking and detonating bombs on successive targets as each one falls.
Rocket Jump (W) has a 20 / 19 / 18 / 17 / 16-second cooldown and costs 50 mana. Tristana jumps to a target location, dealing 70 / 105 / 140 / 175 / 210 (+50% AP) magic damage to nearby enemies on landing and slowing them by 40% for 2 seconds. Rocket Jump's cooldown is fully reset whenever Tristana scores an enemy champion takedown or detonates an Explosive Charge at maximum stacks on a champion. Rocket Jump is Tristana's signature ability that defines her aggressive, reset-based playstyle — the leap provides both an engage tool to jump onto targets and attach Explosive Charge, an escape tool to jump away from threats, and a chain-kill tool that resets on every takedown or fully-stacked bomb detonation, letting Tristana bounce from kill to kill across a teamfight like a lethal pinball.
Explosive Charge (E) has a 16 / 15.5 / 15 / 14.5 / 14-second cooldown and costs 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 mana. Passively, enemies killed by Tristana's basic attacks explode, dealing 55 / 80 / 105 / 130 / 155 (+25% AP) magic damage to nearby enemies. Actively, Tristana places an explosive charge on a target enemy champion or tower for 4 seconds, dealing 60 / 110 / 160 / 210 / 260 (+50 / 65 / 80 / 95 / 110% bonus AD) (+50% AP) physical damage when it detonates. Tristana's basic attacks and abilities against the target increase the charge's damage by 30% per stack, up to 4 stacks for a maximum 120% increase. At 4 stacks, the charge detonates immediately and resets Rocket Jump's cooldown. Explosive Charge is Tristana's primary damage tool and tower-destroying mechanic — the stacking damage on champions provides burst that rivals assassins when fully stacked with Rapid Fire's attack speed, and placing the charge on towers with rapid auto attacks makes Tristana the fastest tower-taker of any ADC in the game.
Buster Shot (R) has a 100 / 85 / 70-second cooldown and costs 100 mana. Tristana fires a massive cannonball at a target enemy, dealing 300 / 400 / 500 (+100% AP) magic damage and knocking them back up to 600 / 800 / 1000 units. Surrounding enemies near the target are also knocked back. Buster Shot is Tristana's self-peel ultimate and finishing tool — the point-and-click knockback instantly creates distance between Tristana and any diver or assassin who jumps on her, the magic damage provides meaningful burst that can finish wounded targets, the knockback can push enemies into Tristana's team for picks or into walls for extended displacement, and the ability can be used mid-Rocket Jump to combo a target by jumping in, attaching Explosive Charge, and knocking the enemy into Tristana's team.
Strengths
- Rocket Jump's cooldown reset on champion takedowns and fully-stacked Explosive Charge detonations creates a unique chain-kill potential where Tristana bounces from target to target across teamfights — each kill or bomb detonation grants another leap that repositions Tristana for the next target, making her one of the most mobile ADCs in teamfights once resets begin chaining — The 40% slow on landing ensures enemies cannot escape after Tristana leaps onto them, and the magic damage adds meaningful burst to the all-in combo
- Explosive Charge's active placed on towers with Rapid Fire's attack speed steroid makes Tristana the fastest tower-taking ADC in the game — a fully-stacked Explosive Charge on a tower deals massive bonus damage that destroys plates and structures faster than any other marksman, giving Tristana's team an enormous gold advantage from first tower and accelerating the game into a snowball state — This tower pressure also makes Tristana a constant split-push threat when grouped fights are unfavorable
- Draw a Bead's per-level range scaling from 550 to 700 gives Tristana one of the longest attack ranges in the late game, allowing her to auto-attack from extreme distance where most enemies and even other ADCs cannot retaliate — this scaling range means Tristana naturally becomes safer and more effective in teamfights as the game progresses without needing any items to increase her range — At level 18 with 700 range, Tristana outranges every standard marksman except Caitlyn's trap-empowered headshots
- Buster Shot's point-and-click knockback provides reliable self-peel that no assassin or diver can avoid — unlike skillshot-based defensive abilities that can be dodged or flashed, Buster Shot guarantees that any enemy who reaches Tristana is immediately blasted 600-1000 units away, giving her a survival tool that scales in effectiveness against increasingly dangerous threats — The knockback can also be used offensively to push enemies into Tristana's team or into walls for picks
Weaknesses
- Tristana is extremely weak in the mid-game between her aggressive early-game all-in window and her late-game hyper-carry scaling — after the laning phase ends and before completing two critical strike items, Tristana's damage is mediocre compared to ADCs like Kai'Sa, Jinx, and Draven who spike harder at one to two items — This mid-game valley means Tristana's team must avoid falling too far behind during the 15-25 minute window where she is at her weakest relative to other carries
- Rocket Jump has a long base cooldown of 20 seconds that leaves Tristana with no escape if she uses it aggressively and fails to secure a kill or fully-stacked bomb detonation — using Rocket Jump to engage and then failing to get the reset means Tristana is stuck in melee range of the enemy team with no dash for 20 seconds, which is often fatal — This risk-reward dynamic means aggressive Rocket Jump engages can single-handedly lose fights if the burst is not sufficient to trigger the reset
- Explosive Charge requires multiple auto attacks to reach maximum stacks, making Tristana vulnerable to crowd control that prevents her from completing the stack — if Tristana is stunned, silenced, or knocked away after placing the charge but before stacking it fully, the bomb deals dramatically reduced damage and fails to reset Rocket Jump — Champions with instant crowd control after Tristana jumps in can completely shut down her all-in combo
- Tristana's Explosive Charge passive causes minions killed by her auto attacks to explode and damage nearby minions, which permanently pushes the wave toward the enemy tower — this passive wave push cannot be turned off and makes it difficult for Tristana to freeze waves, maintain lane control, or farm safely under her own tower when behind — The auto-push forces Tristana into extended positions that expose her to ganks
Recommended Runes
ADC: Lethal Tempo (Precision) — Most Popular
The recommended rune page for Tristana ADC is Lethal Tempo in the Precision tree. Lethal Tempo synergizes with Tristana's attack speed-focused kit by granting ramping attack speed on consecutive auto attacks, stacking with Rapid Fire for extreme attack speed that fully stacks Explosive Charge faster.
- Lethal Tempo — Grants ramping bonus attack speed on consecutive basic attacks against champions, with a bonus at max stacks that also extends auto-attack range. Lethal Tempo is Tristana's optimal keystone because it stacks with Rapid Fire's massive attack speed steroid for absurd combined attack speed, the ramping nature matches Tristana's all-in pattern where she commits to extended trades to fully stack Explosive Charge, and the max-stack range increase extends her already-long Draw a Bead range for even safer late-game positioning.
- Triumph — Restores health and grants bonus gold on champion takedowns. Triumph is essential for Tristana because her Rocket Jump reset playstyle means she chains kills in rapid succession — each takedown restores health that keeps Tristana alive as she leaps to the next target, and the bonus gold accelerates her item scaling toward critical strike powerspikes.
- Legend: Alacrity — Grants stacking attack speed from champion takedowns and minion kills. Legend: Alacrity provides free attack speed scaling that amplifies Tristana's Rapid Fire steroid and accelerates Explosive Charge stacking, reducing the number of auto attacks needed to reach maximum stacks in all-in combos.
- Cut Down — Deals bonus damage to enemies with more maximum health than Tristana. Cut Down is optimal because Tristana as a Yordle has one of the lowest base health pools of any ADC, meaning virtually every enemy champion qualifies for the bonus damage. The increased damage is especially impactful against tanks and bruisers who Tristana must auto-attack through in teamfights.
Secondary — Inspiration
- Biscuit Delivery — Provides free biscuits that restore health and mana, and permanently increase maximum mana. Biscuit Delivery addresses Tristana's mana issues from Explosive Charge and Rocket Jump usage during aggressive laning trades, and the permanent mana increase helps sustain Rapid Fire and Explosive Charge cycling in later fights.
- Magical Footwear — Provides free boots at 12 minutes, with the timer reduced by champion takedowns. Magical Footwear saves Tristana 300 gold on boots, accelerating her first item powerspike. Since Tristana's aggressive all-in playstyle naturally generates takedowns, the boots often arrive before 12 minutes, and the slightly enhanced movement speed from magical boots improves kiting and positioning.
Alternative: Lethal Tempo with Domination Secondary
An alternative secondary tree for Tristana is Domination for a snowball-focused playstyle that maximizes early kill gold and sustain.
- Taste of Blood — Heals Tristana when she damages an enemy champion with an ability or attack. Taste of Blood provides lane sustain during aggressive trades where Tristana commits to Rocket Jump engages and takes return damage.
- Treasure Hunter — Grants bonus gold on unique champion takedowns. Treasure Hunter accelerates Tristana's item scaling by providing bonus gold the first time she kills each enemy champion, helping her reach the critical two-item powerspike faster.
Stat Shards
- Attack Speed — Bonus attack speed accelerates Explosive Charge stacking in all-in combos and improves last-hitting in the early laning phase.
- Adaptive Force — Bonus attack damage increases Explosive Charge's bonus AD scaling and auto-attack damage for stronger early trades.
- Health — Flat health provides survivability in the bot lane against both physical and magic damage, compensating for Tristana's low base health pool.
Recommended Item Build
Based on data from ranked Tristana matches tracked across multiple stat sites on Patch 16.6, the Yun Tal Wildarrows into Infinity Edge build has the highest win rates for ADC. Here are the optimal build paths.
Standard Build (ADC)
#### Early Game (0-10 min)
- Doran's Blade — Grants attack damage, health, and omnivamp. Doran's Blade is Tristana's standard starting item because the AD improves last-hitting and Explosive Charge damage, the health provides survivability during aggressive level 2-3 all-ins, and the omnivamp sustains Tristana through trades where she takes return damage.
- Health Potion — Provides sustain during laning trades where Tristana absorbs damage from enemy poke and counter-trades while looking for Rocket Jump engage opportunities.
#### Core Build (10-20 min)
- Yun Tal Wildarrows — Grants attack damage and critical strike chance, with a passive that empowers basic attacks with bonus physical damage. Yun Tal Wildarrows (53.4% WR) is Tristana's optimal first item because the passive damage amplifies every auto attack during Explosive Charge stacking, the critical strike chance enables devastating crits that accelerate bomb detonation burst, and the raw AD increases Explosive Charge's bonus AD scaling for higher all-in damage.
- Berserker's Greaves — Grants attack speed and movement speed. Berserker's Greaves (52.8% WR) are Tristana's optimal boots because attack speed directly translates into faster Explosive Charge stacking, the movement speed improves kiting between Rocket Jump cooldowns, and the combined attack speed with Rapid Fire lets Tristana fully stack bombs in fewer seconds.
- Infinity Edge — Grants attack damage and critical strike chance, with a passive that increases critical strike damage. Infinity Edge (55.1% WR) is Tristana's most important scaling item because it amplifies every critical strike including those during Explosive Charge stacking, the raw AD boosts Explosive Charge's bonus AD ratio, and the critical damage increase makes Tristana's burst-and-DPS hybrid playstyle dramatically more lethal with each auto attack.
#### Late Game (25+ min)
- Navori Flickerblade — Grants attack damage, critical strike chance, and ability haste, with a passive that reduces basic ability cooldowns on critical strikes. Navori Flickerblade (57.2% WR) synergizes perfectly with Tristana because critical strikes reduce Rocket Jump and Explosive Charge cooldowns, enabling more frequent bomb cycles and additional reset opportunities in extended teamfights.
- Lord Dominik's Regards — Grants attack damage, critical strike chance, and armor penetration. Lord Dominik's Regards (56.8% WR) ensures Tristana's auto attacks and Explosive Charge remain effective against tanks and bruisers who stack armor, and the critical strike chance further increases overall DPS.
- Bloodthirster — Grants attack damage, critical strike chance, and lifesteal, with a passive shield that builds from overhealing. Bloodthirster (58.3% WR) provides Tristana with sustain that keeps her alive during aggressive Rocket Jump engage chains and the overheal shield provides a buffer that absorbs burst from assassins before Buster Shot knockback creates distance.
Situational Items
- Phantom Dancer — Provides attack speed, critical strike chance, and movement speed with a ghosting passive — ideal when Tristana needs additional kiting ability against teams with multiple melee threats who chase through minion waves.
- Mortal Reminder — Provides attack damage, critical strike chance, and armor penetration with grievous wounds — essential against healing-heavy compositions where Tristana's sustained auto attacks can apply anti-heal to multiple targets.
- Guardian Angel — Provides attack damage, armor, and a revive passive — strong in games where Tristana's aggressive Rocket Jump engages put her at risk of being burst down, and the revive can trigger in the middle of a teamfight where Tristana's team cleans up.
- Maw of Malmortius — Provides attack damage, ability haste, and a magic damage shield — useful against heavy AP compositions where magic burst threatens to kill Tristana before she can use Buster Shot for self-peel.
- Mercurial Scimitar — Provides attack damage, magic resistance, and a cleanse active — critical against heavy CC compositions where a single stun on Tristana prevents her from stacking Explosive Charge or using Rocket Jump to escape.
Highest Win Rate 3-Item Combinations
The highest win rate ADC build is Yun Tal Wildarrows + Berserker's Greaves + Infinity Edge, which provides the optimal balance of burst damage through Yun Tal's empowered auto attacks stacking Explosive Charge with critical strikes amplified by Infinity Edge's bonus critical damage, attack speed through Berserker's Greaves accelerating Explosive Charge stacking and Rapid Fire's already-massive steroid, and raw AD scaling through both items' attack damage increasing Explosive Charge's bonus AD ratio for devastating fully-stacked detonations. This build maximizes Tristana's identity as a burst-and-DPS hybrid ADC who can all-in with Rocket Jump and delete targets with fully-stacked Explosive Charge while also providing sustained DPS in extended teamfights.
Ability Priority
ADC: E > Q > W (R at 6, 11, 16)
- Explosive Charge (E) — Max first. Each rank increases active damage from 60 to 260 (+50-110% bonus AD) and passive explosion damage from 55 to 155 (+25% AP), while reducing cooldown from 16 to 14 seconds. E max provides the largest damage increase per level — Explosive Charge is Tristana's primary burst tool and the fully-stacked detonation damage increase per rank is massive, making each all-in with Rocket Jump dramatically more lethal and improving wave-clear through the passive explosions.
- Rapid Fire (Q) — Max second. Each rank increases bonus attack speed from 60% to 120%. Q max second provides escalating attack speed that lets Tristana stack Explosive Charge faster and deal more sustained DPS — the cooldown reduction on Explosive Charge during Rapid Fire also becomes more impactful as Q's attack speed increases, enabling faster bomb cycling.
- Rocket Jump (W) — Max last. Each rank increases damage from 70 to 210 (+50% AP) and reduces cooldown from 20 to 16 seconds. W is maxed last because Rocket Jump's primary value is the mobility and reset mechanic which functions fully at rank 1 — the damage increase per rank is moderate magic damage, and the cooldown reduction matters less than E's burst scaling and Q's attack speed scaling.
- Buster Shot (R) — Level at 6, 11, and 16. Each rank increases damage from 300 to 500 (+100% AP) and knockback distance from 600 to 1000 units, while reducing cooldown from 100 to 70 seconds. Level 6 Buster Shot provides an immediate self-peel powerspike and additional burst for all-in combos.
Level-by-level order: E, W, Q, E, E, R, E, Q, E, Q, R, Q, Q, W, W, R, W, W.
Summoner Spells
ADC
- Flash — Flash is essential on Tristana for Flash-Explosive Charge combos that guarantee bomb placement on priority targets, Flash-Buster Shot to knock enemies into Tristana's team for picks, escaping ganks when Rocket Jump is on cooldown, and repositioning to continue auto-attacking during teamfights. Taken in every game.
- Barrier — Barrier is the standard defensive secondary spell for Tristana ADC, providing a temporary shield that absorbs burst damage during aggressive Rocket Jump engages where Tristana commits to the all-in and takes return damage. Barrier is especially effective because Tristana's all-in playstyle puts her in danger more than other ADCs, and the shield can be the difference between dying and securing the kill that resets Rocket Jump.
- Heal — Alternative to Barrier for a support-oriented playstyle. Heal provides both a heal and a movement speed boost to Tristana and her support, offering more value in coordinated all-ins where the support also benefits from the heal and speed-up.
Playstyle Tips
Early Game / Laning Phase (0-14 min)
Tristana's early game in bot lane focuses on aggressive level 2-3 all-ins with Rocket Jump and Explosive Charge, fast tower-taking with Explosive Charge on structures, and leveraging her strong early burst to snowball the lane.
Level 1: Start Explosive Charge (E) at level 1 for the passive explosion on minion kills that helps push the wave and the active bomb for trading. Place Explosive Charge on the enemy ADC when they walk up to last-hit and auto-attack to stack it — even without Rocket Jump, a partially-stacked bomb deals meaningful damage that wins early trades.
Level 2: Take Rocket Jump (W) at level 2 for the all-in engage. The level 2 power spike is enormous — Tristana can Rocket Jump onto the enemy ADC, immediately place Explosive Charge, and auto-attack rapidly to stack the bomb while the 40% slow from Rocket Jump prevents escape. If the support follows up with crowd control, the fully-stacked bomb detonation plus Rocket Jump landing damage plus auto attacks is often enough to secure a kill. Push the wave to hit level 2 first and immediately look for the Rocket Jump all-in.
Level 3+: Take Rapid Fire (Q) at level 3 to unlock the attack speed steroid. From this point, the core all-in combo becomes: Rocket Jump onto target → immediately place Explosive Charge → activate Rapid Fire → auto-attack rapidly to stack the bomb to 4 stacks → bomb detonates and resets Rocket Jump → jump away or chase for the next target. The Rapid Fire attack speed makes stacking Explosive Charge dramatically faster, reducing the window where the enemy can fight back.
Tower Pressure: Tristana is the best tower-taking ADC in the game. After winning a trade or forcing the enemy to recall, place Explosive Charge on the tower and use Rapid Fire to stack it — a fully-stacked bomb detonation on a tower deals massive damage that takes plates faster than any other champion. Prioritize first tower gold by aggressively pushing after kill leads.
Mid Game & Teamfights (14-25 min)
Mid-game Tristana with Yun Tal Wildarrows and Infinity Edge completed is a burst assassin-ADC hybrid who can delete squishy targets with Rocket Jump into fully-stacked Explosive Charge combos while also providing sustained DPS from increasing Draw a Bead range.
Tristana's mid-game strategy depends on her lane result. If ahead, Tristana should group with her team and look for aggressive fights where she can Rocket Jump onto priority targets, attach Explosive Charge, and burst them with rapid auto attacks. Each kill resets Rocket Jump for chain kills across the fight. If behind or even, Tristana should farm side lanes to catch up on gold while using Explosive Charge on towers to generate structural pressure.
In teamfights, Tristana's priority depends on the situation. As the aggressive carry: Rocket Jump onto the enemy backline carry → Explosive Charge → Rapid Fire → stack the bomb to full → bomb detonation resets Rocket Jump → leap to the next target or leap out to safety. As the safe DPS carry: stay at maximum Draw a Bead range → auto-attack the nearest enemy → use Explosive Charge on frontline targets → save Rocket Jump and Buster Shot for self-peel against divers. The choice between aggression and safety depends on whether Tristana can guarantee the kill that resets Rocket Jump — committing to a Rocket Jump engage without securing the reset is usually fatal.
Late Game (25+ min)
Late-game Tristana with full build is a long-range hyper-carry with 700 attack range who combines devastating critical strike DPS with Rocket Jump reset mobility, making her one of the most dangerous teamfight carries in the game when she chains resets.
In the late game, Draw a Bead provides Tristana with 700 auto-attack range at level 18, which outranges most ADCs and allows her to auto-attack safely from extreme distance. This range advantage means Tristana can deal sustained DPS without needing to use Rocket Jump aggressively — she can simply auto-attack from range and save Rocket Jump and Buster Shot exclusively for self-peel.
However, when an opportunity presents itself to jump onto an isolated carry and secure a kill with fully-stacked Explosive Charge, the Rocket Jump reset enables Tristana to immediately leap back to safety or chase the next target. Late-game Explosive Charge with full items deals enormous damage — a fully-stacked bomb with critical strikes from Infinity Edge and Yun Tal Wildarrows can delete squishy targets in 3-4 auto attacks.
Buster Shot becomes increasingly valuable in the late game as a self-peel tool against fed assassins and divers. The 1000-unit knockback at rank 3 blasts any threat far enough away that Tristana can reposition with Draw a Bead's range advantage before they can close the gap again. Use Buster Shot reactively against divers rather than offensively for damage — the self-peel value of keeping Tristana alive and auto-attacking far exceeds the burst damage from using it as a finishing tool.
Matchups
ADC
#### Favorable
- Varus — Tristana wins against Varus (~55% WR). Varus is an immobile poke ADC who relies on Piercing Arrow poke and Hail of Arrows slow to control lane. Tristana's Rocket Jump closes the gap past Varus's poke range instantly, Explosive Charge burst overwhelms Varus's relatively low health pool, and Varus has no dash or escape to avoid the all-in. Buster Shot can also knock Varus away if he attempts to use Chain of Corruption, and Tristana outscales Varus in sustained DPS.
- Senna — Tristana wins against Senna (~54% WR). Senna is a scaling utility marksman who relies on slow, long-range poke to control lane. Tristana's aggressive Rocket Jump all-in at level 2-3 overwhelms Senna's squishy health pool before she can scale, Explosive Charge burst is too fast for Senna's limited self-peel to handle, and Senna's lack of mobility makes her an easy Rocket Jump target. Even in the late game, Tristana's burst combo deletes Senna before her range advantage matters.
- Yasuo — Tristana wins against Yasuo (~56% WR). Yasuo's Wind Wall blocks projectiles but does not block Explosive Charge's point-blank placement or Buster Shot's point-and-click knockback. Tristana's Rocket Jump burst combo bypasses Yasuo's defenses entirely, and Buster Shot's knockback prevents Yasuo from dashing through minions to reach Tristana. Yasuo's squishy health pool means a fully-stacked Explosive Charge often kills him outright.
#### Even
- Caitlyn — Tristana fights approximately even against Caitlyn (~50% WR). Caitlyn's superior early-game range and trap control zone Tristana away from CS, but Tristana's level 2-3 all-in with Rocket Jump can catch Caitlyn if she steps too close. Caitlyn outranges Tristana in the early and mid game, but Tristana's Draw a Bead scaling eventually matches and exceeds Caitlyn's range. The matchup favors Caitlyn early but shifts toward Tristana after two items.
- Miss Fortune — Tristana fights approximately even against Miss Fortune (~50.5% WR). Miss Fortune's Double Up poke and Bullet Time ultimate deal heavy damage to Tristana in lane, but Tristana's Rocket Jump can dodge Bullet Time by leaping out of the channel, and Explosive Charge burst in all-ins matches Miss Fortune's trading damage. Both champions spike at similar item timings, making the matchup largely support-dependent.
#### Unfavorable
- Nilah — Tristana loses to Nilah (~46% WR). Nilah's Jubilant Veil blocks auto-attack damage and grants her a burst of movement speed, negating Tristana's Explosive Charge stacking by preventing auto attacks from connecting during the dodge window. Nilah's Apotheosis ultimate heals her team while dealing damage, and her melee-range all-in with Formless Blade outdamages Tristana in close combat where Rocket Jump puts Tristana.
- Swain — Tristana loses to Swain (~47% WR). Swain's Nevermove root catches Tristana after Rocket Jump lands, preventing her from auto-attacking to stack Explosive Charge. Swain's Demonic Ascension ultimate grants massive healing and sustained damage that outlasts Tristana's burst combo, and his tankiness means Explosive Charge rarely deals enough damage to kill him even at full stacks.
- Veigar — Tristana loses to Veigar (~47.5% WR). Veigar's Event Horizon cage traps Tristana after she Rocket Jumps in, stunning her and preventing Explosive Charge stacking. Veigar's Primordial Burst deals execute damage that scales infinitely with AP stacks, one-shotting Tristana through Barrier as the game progresses. Tristana's all-in playstyle plays directly into Veigar's cage by jumping into its range.
Best Synergy Partners
Tristana pairs best with aggressive engage supports who can lock down targets for Explosive Charge stacking:
- Leona — Leona's Shield of Daybreak stun and Zenith Blade engage provide the crowd control that keeps enemies locked down while Tristana stacks Explosive Charge, and Leona's tanky frontline absorbs damage during the all-in while Tristana deals damage from behind.
- Nautilus — Nautilus's Dredge Line hook and Depth Charge knockup chain crowd control on the target long enough for Tristana to fully stack Explosive Charge and trigger the Rocket Jump reset, and his passive root on every auto attack adds even more lockdown.
- Rell — Rell's Ferromancy Crash engage and Magnet Storm ultimate provide massive area-of-effect crowd control that sets up Tristana to Rocket Jump in, attach Explosive Charge, and freely stack the bomb while enemies are stunned and grouped.
- Nami — Nami's Aqua Prison bubble sets up guaranteed Explosive Charge stacking, Tidecaller's Blessing empowers Tristana's auto attacks with bonus damage and slow for faster bomb stacking, and Tidal Wave's engage creates all-in opportunities that Tristana can follow up with Rocket Jump.
Recent Patch Changes
Tristana's current state in Patch 16.6 reflects a strong burst-and-DPS hybrid ADC who excels in aggressive lanes and scales into a long-range carry — her 52.3% win rate and 6.2% pick rate confirm her viability as both a reliable ADC pick and a counter-pick into immobile marksmen and squishy compositions.
Her identity after the Patch 14.19 adjustments emphasizes her role as a reset-based marksman who spikes aggressively in the early game with Rocket Jump all-ins and then scales into a long-range hyper-carry through Draw a Bead's per-level range increase. The 14.19 changes increased her base attack range to 550, buffed Rapid Fire's attack speed scaling to 60-120%, added the Explosive Charge cooldown reduction mechanic during Rapid Fire, and adjusted Explosive Charge's damage to scale harder with stacks — all changes that reward aggressive play and proper bomb stacking. Her kit's power lies in Draw a Bead's per-level range scaling that gives her 700 range at level 18, Rapid Fire's 120% attack speed steroid that also reduces Explosive Charge's cooldown, Rocket Jump's resetting leap that enables chain kills through teamfights, Explosive Charge's stacking bomb that provides burst damage and tower-taking speed, and Buster Shot's point-and-click knockback that provides reliable self-peel — making her one of the most complete ADC kits in the game.
