Best Udyr Build & Guide (2026) — League of Legends
The definitive Udyr build guide for 2026. Optimal items, runes, ability order, playstyle tips, and matchup advice backed by data from thousands of ranked League of Legends matches.
Udyr is League of Legends' Spirit Walker — a stance-swapping melee bruiser jungler who channels the spirits of four Freljordian demigods, constantly rotating between Wilding Claw's attack speed burst and max-health physical damage, Iron Mantle's shield and lifesteal sustain, Blazing Stampede's movement speed and point-and-click stun, and Wingborne Storm's area-of-effect magic damage blizzard that melts grouped enemies with Liandry's Torment burn. He is a jungler who builds Liandry's Torment into tank items to combine sustained AP damage with frontline durability, making him one of the most versatile bruisers in the game. Udyr is played as a jungler (52.5% win rate on Patch 16.6 Emerald+, B Tier) with a 1.5% pick rate and a 1.0% ban rate. Whether you want to run down enemies with Blazing Stampede's unstoppable bear-spirit charge for guaranteed stuns, melt entire teams with Wingborne Storm's Awakened blizzard dealing percentage max-health damage every tick, or become an unkillable frontliner who sustains through teamfights with Iron Mantle's shield and lifesteal while burning everything around him, this guide covers everything you need to master the Spirit Walker in 2026.
Udyr Overview
Udyr operates as a stance-swapping bruiser jungler whose power comes from his unique ability to constantly rotate between four stances that each grant empowered basic attacks and a persistent effect for 4 seconds, amplified by his passive Bridge Between which grants 30% bonus attack speed on his next two attacks after switching stances and refunds 5% of his Awaken cooldown per attack. Unlike every other champion in League of Legends, Udyr has no ultimate ability — instead, he has four basic abilities that each provide a different combat stance, and his Awaken mechanic (on a 50/40/30/20-second cooldown based on level) lets him recast any stance to unlock its empowered Awakened form with dramatically enhanced effects. This means Udyr's power is distributed across all four abilities rather than concentrated in a single ultimate, and his effectiveness depends entirely on the player's ability to swap stances at the right moments and choose when to Awaken for maximum impact. He is played as a jungler (52.5% win rate on Patch 16.6 Emerald+) with a 1.5% pick rate and 1.0% ban rate.
Unlike burst-oriented junglers who rely on a single combo rotation or tank junglers who provide crowd control but deal minimal damage, Udyr wins games through sustained damage, relentless pursuit, and stance flexibility — Wingborne Storm's persistent blizzard combined with Liandry's Torment deals continuous percentage-health magic damage to every enemy near Udyr, burning through both squishies and tanks while he stands in the middle of teamfights absorbing damage with Iron Mantle's shield and lifesteal; Blazing Stampede's movement speed and point-and-click stun make him one of the most reliable gankers in the game who can run down any champion without a dash; and Wilding Claw's Awakened lightning strikes provide burst damage that shreds isolated targets with max-health physical damage that scales with bonus AD. Udyr's strength lies in his flexibility — he can adapt his stance rotation to any situation, stunning a diver with E then shielding with W to peel for carries, or charging in with E to stun a carry then melting them with R's blizzard.
Bridge Between (Passive) has two components — Awakened Spirit and Monk Training. Awakened Spirit allows Udyr to recast any ability that is already active to Awaken it, gaining dramatically enhanced effects, on a cooldown of 50 / 40 / 30 / 20 seconds based on level. Monk Training grants Udyr 30% bonus attack speed on his next two basic attacks after casting any ability, and each of those two attacks refunds 5% of the Awaken cooldown. Bridge Between is the foundation of Udyr's entire kit — the Awaken mechanic forces Udyr to choose which ability to empower in each fight, creating meaningful decisions about whether to Awaken Wingborne Storm for maximum area damage, Blazing Stampede for crowd control immunity and extended chase, Iron Mantle for massive shielding and healing, or Wilding Claw for single-target burst. The Monk Training attack speed ensures smooth stance transitions and rewards weaving auto attacks between stance swaps.
Wilding Claw (Q) has a 6-second cooldown and costs 20 mana. Udyr enters Claw Stance, gaining 20 / 32 / 44 / 56 / 68 / 80% bonus attack speed and dealing 5 / 13 / 21 / 29 / 37 / 45 (+25% bonus AD) bonus physical damage on-hit for 4 seconds. His next two empowered attacks deal 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8% (+4% per 100 bonus AD) of the target's maximum health as bonus physical damage. Awakened: Udyr gains an additional 20 to 76% bonus attack speed (scaling with level), and his empowered attacks call lightning that strikes 6 times, dealing 1.5 to 3.18% (+0.8% per 100 AP) of the target's maximum health as magic damage per hit, chaining to 3 nearby enemies. Wilding Claw is Udyr's single-target dueling ability — the massive attack speed steroid and max-health damage make him a fearsome 1v1 fighter, and the Awakened lightning strikes add substantial burst damage when used against isolated targets in the jungle or during skirmishes.
Iron Mantle (W) has a 6-second cooldown and costs 40 to 21 mana (decreasing with level). Udyr enters Mantle Stance, gaining a 45 / 65 / 85 / 105 / 125 / 145 (+40% AP)(+2 / 2.3 / 2.6 / 2.9 / 3.2 / 3.5% maximum health) shield for 4 seconds. His next two empowered attacks gain 15 / 16 / 17 / 18 / 19 / 20% life steal and restore 1.2% maximum health (+8% AP) health on-hit. Awakened: The shield is increased by an additional 20 to 165 (+65% AP)(+8% maximum health) that stacks with the remaining shield. Udyr heals over time for a total of 10 to 83 (+32.5% AP)(+4% maximum health), and empowered attack lifesteal and healing are doubled. Iron Mantle is Udyr's sustain ability — the shield absorbs burst damage while the lifesteal and on-hit healing keep him healthy through extended fights and jungle clears. The Awakened version provides massive effective health that makes Udyr nearly unkillable during the shield duration.
Blazing Stampede (E) has a 6-second cooldown and costs 40 to 21 mana (decreasing with level). Udyr enters Stampede Stance, gaining 25 / 31 / 37 / 43 / 49 / 55% bonus movement speed for 4 seconds (decaying to 7.5 / 9.3 / 11.1 / 12.9 / 14.7 / 16.5% over the last 1.5 seconds) and ghosting. His empowered attacks dash to the target and stun them for 0.75 seconds, with a per-target immunity cooldown of 6 / 5.6 / 5.2 / 4.8 / 4.4 / 4 seconds. Awakened: Udyr gains 75 bonus attack range, an additional 30 to 41% bonus movement speed (scaling with level), and crowd control immunity for 1.5 seconds. Blazing Stampede is Udyr's signature ganking and engagement tool — the massive movement speed makes him one of the fastest champions in the game, the point-and-click stun guarantees crowd control that cannot be dodged, and the Awakened CC immunity lets him charge through enemy crowd control to reach priority targets.
Wingborne Storm (R) has a 6-second cooldown and costs 40 to 21 mana (decreasing with level). Udyr enters Storm Stance, empowering his next two attacks to deal 10 to 44 (+35% AP) magic damage to nearby enemies. He creates a blizzard around himself that deals 10 / 18 / 26 / 34 / 42 / 50 (+17.5% AP) magic damage per 0.5 seconds and slows enemies by 15 / 18 / 21 / 24 / 27 / 30% for 4 seconds (minions take 50 to 80% damage scaling with level). Awakened: Udyr unleashes the storm as a mobile blizzard that lasts 4 seconds, dealing 1 to 1.84% (+0.4375% per 100 AP) of the target's maximum health as magic damage per tick (8 to 14.71% (+3.5% per 100 AP) total), with an additional 5% slow. The storm prioritizes the last attacked enemy, then champions. Wingborne Storm is Udyr's primary damage ability in the AP build — the persistent AoE damage synergizes perfectly with Liandry's Torment because the blizzard continuously procs the burn passive, and the Awakened version's percentage max-health damage melts tanks and squishies alike.
Strengths
- Udyr's stance-swapping system provides unmatched flexibility in combat — he can switch between damage, sustain, mobility, and crowd control every 6 seconds, adapting to any situation in real time rather than being locked into a single playstyle like most champions — If a diver threatens his carry, Udyr can E-stun the diver then W-shield himself; if he catches a squishy isolated, he can Q for burst damage; if he needs to teamfight, he can R for area damage — no other jungler has this level of in-combat adaptation
- Blazing Stampede provides one of the most reliable gank tools in the game — the 55% movement speed at max rank with ghosting lets Udyr run through minion waves and terrain directly at the target, and the point-and-click stun guarantees 0.75 seconds of crowd control that cannot be dodged, blocked, or outplayed — Unlike skillshot-dependent junglers like Lee Sin or Elise, Udyr's ganks succeed as long as he reaches the target, and the Awakened CC immunity lets him charge through enemy counter-CC to guarantee the stun
- Wingborne Storm combined with Liandry's Torment creates devastating sustained area damage that melts through both tanks and squishies — the blizzard ticks every 0.5 seconds which continuously procs Liandry's percentage-health burn, and the Awakened version adds additional max-health damage per tick that stacks with the burn for massive cumulative damage over 4 seconds — In teamfights where Udyr stands in the middle of multiple enemies, the combined Wingborne Storm and Liandry's damage output exceeds most mages
- Udyr is one of the healthiest jungle clearers in the game because Iron Mantle's shield and lifesteal sustain him through camps without losing health, and his stance rotation with Monk Training's attack speed bonus gives him fast clear speed while maintaining near-full health for immediate gank availability — Udyr finishes his first full clear with more health than almost any other jungler, letting him gank immediately without recalling
Weaknesses
- Udyr has zero ranged abilities and no gap closer besides Blazing Stampede's movement speed — he must physically run to every target, making him vulnerable to kiting by champions with dashes, slows, and ranged poke who can maintain distance while Udyr burns through his movement speed steroid without reaching them — Champions like Ezreal, Vayne, and Kindred can dash away from Udyr repeatedly, and his only answer is to wait for the next Blazing Stampede cooldown
- Udyr has no ultimate ability, which means he lacks the massive power spike that other champions get at levels 6, 11, and 16 — his power is distributed evenly across stance ranks rather than concentrated in a single game-changing ability, making him feel weaker at key level breakpoints compared to junglers who can turn fights with a single ultimate — A level 6 Udyr does not gain a dramatically new capability the way a level 6 Hecarim, Vi, or Amumu does
- Udyr's Awaken mechanic has a long cooldown (50 seconds at level 1, 20 seconds at level 16), meaning he can only empower one stance per fight in the early and mid game — if Udyr Awakens the wrong ability or the fight shifts after his Awaken is used, he is stuck with base-level stances that deal significantly less damage and provide significantly less utility than their Awakened versions — Misusing the Awaken on Iron Mantle shield when Wingborne Storm damage was needed can cost a fight
- Udyr is easily kited in teamfights despite his movement speed because Blazing Stampede's stun has a per-target immunity timer of 4 to 6 seconds, meaning he can only stun each enemy once every few seconds — coordinated teams with multiple sources of peel can lock Udyr down after his initial stun wears off and kite him while his Blazing Stampede dash is on per-target cooldown — Unlike Hecarim who fears entire teams or Amumu who stuns everyone in range, Udyr's crowd control is single-target and time-gated
Recommended Runes
Jungle: Conqueror (Precision) — Most Popular
The most popular rune page for Udyr Jungle is Conqueror in the Precision tree. Conqueror synergizes perfectly with Udyr's extended-fight playstyle because stance rotations and the constant auto attacks from Monk Training stack Conqueror rapidly, and the adaptive force at max stacks amplifies both his Wingborne Storm magic damage and Wilding Claw physical damage.
- Conqueror — Grants stacking adaptive force on each attack or ability hit against enemy champions, and at maximum stacks provides omnivamp. Conqueror is Udyr's ideal keystone because every stance swap and every auto attack adds stacks, and since Udyr fights by constantly rotating stances woven with empowered attacks, he reaches maximum stacks within seconds. The omnivamp at full stacks synergizes with Iron Mantle's lifesteal and Wingborne Storm's sustained damage for a multi-layered sustain profile that makes Udyr progressively harder to kill the longer a fight continues.
- Triumph — Restores health on champion takedowns. Triumph is essential for Udyr because he fights in melee range and takes sustained damage throughout every engagement. The health restoration on kills or assists keeps him alive through chain fights where he stuns one target, kills them, then immediately needs health to fight the next.
- Legend: Alacrity — Grants permanent bonus attack speed stacks from champion takedowns and minion kills. Legend: Alacrity increases Udyr's auto-attack speed, which stacks Conqueror faster, procs Monk Training's Awaken cooldown refund more frequently, and maximizes the number of empowered attacks he lands during each 4-second stance window.
- Last Stand — Deals increased damage when below a health threshold. Last Stand is ideal for Udyr because his sustain through Iron Mantle and Conqueror omnivamp means he frequently dips to low health before healing back up. The bonus damage during the low-health window increases his Wingborne Storm ticks and Wilding Claw attacks, helping him secure kills that trigger Triumph healing to stabilize.
Secondary — Inspiration
- Magical Footwear — Grants free boots at 12 minutes (reduced by takedowns). Magical Footwear saves 300 gold and provides slightly more movement speed than regular boots, accelerating Udyr's core item completion while the extra movement speed enhances his chasing and ganking power.
- Cosmic Insight — Grants item haste and summoner spell haste. Cosmic Insight reduces Flash and Smite cooldowns, making both available more frequently for engage opportunities and objective secures. The item haste also reduces the cooldown on active items.
Alternative: Press the Attack (Precision) — Highest Win Rate
The highest win rate rune page for Udyr Jungle is Press the Attack in the Precision tree (53.0% WR). Press the Attack procs easily with Udyr's rapid auto attacks from Monk Training's 30% bonus attack speed, and the vulnerability debuff amplifies follow-up damage from both Udyr and his allies.
- Press the Attack — After landing three consecutive basic attacks, deals bonus adaptive damage and makes the target vulnerable to increased damage from all sources for 6 seconds. Press the Attack synergizes with Udyr's Monk Training attack speed bonus because the two empowered attacks after any stance swap combined with one additional auto proc the three-hit requirement almost instantly, and the vulnerability debuff amplifies Wingborne Storm's sustained damage and ally follow-up.
- Triumph — Same rationale as Conqueror setup.
- Legend: Alacrity — Same rationale as Conqueror setup.
- Last Stand — Same rationale as Conqueror setup.
Secondary — Inspiration
- Magical Footwear — Same rationale as the Conqueror setup — free boots and extra movement speed.
- Cosmic Insight — Same rationale as the Conqueror setup — summoner spell and item haste.
Stat Shards
- Attack Speed — Bonus attack speed improves jungle clear speed, stacks Conqueror/Press the Attack faster, and procs Monk Training's Awaken cooldown refund more frequently.
- Adaptive Force — Bonus AD increases Wilding Claw's on-hit damage and empowered attack max-health scaling in early duels and clears.
- Health Scaling — Scaling health provides durability in mid-game teamfights and increases Iron Mantle's percentage-health shield scaling.
Recommended Item Build
Based on data from ranked Udyr matches tracked across multiple stat sites on Patch 16.6, the AP bruiser build with Liandry's Torment has the highest win rates for Jungle. Here are the optimal build paths.
Jungle Build
#### Early Game (0-10 min)
- Mosstomper Seedling — The jungle starting item that evolves into a shield-granting companion upon completing the jungle quest. Mosstomper is Udyr's optimal jungle starter because the shield companion provides bonus durability that synergizes with Iron Mantle's own shield, making Udyr extremely tanky in early skirmishes and river fights over Scuttle Crab.
- Refillable Potion — Provides reusable sustain during the early jungle clear. Refillable Potion is efficient because Udyr's healthy clear with Iron Mantle means he rarely needs more than two charges between recalls, and the potion can be upgraded to Corrupting Potion later if needed.
#### Core Build (10-20 min)
- Liandry's Torment — Grants ability power, health, and a passive that deals bonus percentage-health magic damage over time to enemies affected by abilities. Liandry's Torment is Udyr's defining item because Wingborne Storm's blizzard ticks every 0.5 seconds, continuously reapplying Liandry's burn for devastating sustained area damage. The percentage-health burn stacks with Wingborne Storm's own damage to melt tanks and squishies alike, and the ability power increases both the blizzard damage and Iron Mantle's shield and healing. Liandry's transforms Udyr from a melee bruiser into an area-damage threat who burns through entire teams just by standing near them.
- Boots of Swiftness — Grants bonus movement speed and reduces the effectiveness of slows. Boots of Swiftness are Udyr's optimal boot choice because the extra movement speed amplifies Blazing Stampede's chase potential, and the slow resistance counters Udyr's primary weakness — being kited by champions with slows. The slow resistance ensures Udyr maintains enough speed to reach targets even through Ashe arrows, Nasus Withers, and other movement-impairing effects.
- Dead Man's Plate — Grants armor, health, and a passive that builds momentum stacks while moving, granting up to bonus movement speed at full stacks. Dead Man's Plate is ideal for Udyr because the momentum movement speed stacks with Blazing Stampede for terrifying chase speed, the armor and health provide frontline durability, and the charged auto attack discharge adds burst damage on the first hit after reaching a gank target. Dead Man's Plate also makes Udyr's jungle traversal faster between camps and ganks, reducing downtime.
#### Late Game (25+ min)
- Spirit Visage — Grants magic resistance, health, ability haste, and a passive that increases all healing and shielding received. Spirit Visage amplifies both of Udyr's sustain mechanics simultaneously — Iron Mantle's shield is increased in strength, and the lifesteal and on-hit healing are amplified. The increased healing also applies to Conqueror omnivamp, creating a multiplicative sustain loop that makes Udyr nearly unkillable in extended teamfights. The magic resistance provides durability against AP threats.
- Jak'Sho, The Protean — Grants armor, magic resistance, health, and ability haste, with a passive that grants stacking resistances in combat and drains nearby enemies at max stacks. Jak'Sho is perfect for Udyr because his extended-fight playstyle lets him stack the resistance passive to maximum before most fights are decided. The dual resistances make Udyr a true tank who shrugs off both physical and magic damage, and the drain effect at max stacks adds additional sustain on top of Iron Mantle and Conqueror.
- Force of Nature — Grants magic resistance, health, and movement speed, with a passive that grants stacking bonus movement speed and magic damage reduction when hit by magic damage. Force of Nature provides permanent movement speed that enhances Udyr's chase potential while giving him stacking magic damage reduction that makes him nearly immune to sustained AP threats. Against heavy AP compositions, Force of Nature combined with Spirit Visage makes Udyr an unmovable frontliner.
Situational Items
- Unending Despair — Provides health, armor, ability haste, and a passive that periodically drains health from nearby enemies and heals Udyr — ideal against heavy AD compositions where the sustained drain synergizes with Udyr's melee-range teamfight presence.
- Hollow Radiance — Provides ability power, health, magic resistance, and an aura that deals magic damage to nearby enemies — strong as an alternative to Liandry's when Udyr wants additional tankiness with his area damage.
- Frozen Heart — Provides armor, mana, and ability haste with an aura that reduces nearby enemy attack speed — excellent against auto-attack-heavy compositions with multiple marksmen or attack speed bruisers.
- Thornmail — Provides armor and health with a passive that applies grievous wounds to enemies who attack Udyr — strong against healing-heavy compositions where Udyr needs to reduce enemy sustain while tanking in melee range.
Highest Win Rate 3-Item Combinations
The highest win rate build is Liandry's Torment + Boots of Swiftness + Dead Man's Plate, which provides Liandry's sustained percentage-health burn damage synergizing with Wingborne Storm's constant area ticks, Boots of Swiftness's slow resistance and movement speed to counter kiting, and Dead Man's Plate's armor, health, and momentum movement speed for frontline durability and chase potential. This three-item spike is where Udyr transforms from an early-game ganker into a teamfight-dominating bruiser who deals sustained area damage while being nearly impossible to kill.
Ability Priority
Jungle: R > E > Q > W
- Wingborne Storm (R) — Max first. Each rank increases base blizzard damage from 10 to 50 per tick (+17.5% AP), the slow from 15% to 30%, and the empowered attack damage. R max first is essential for the AP/Liandry's build because the blizzard is Udyr's primary damage source — each rank significantly increases the sustained AoE damage that procs Liandry's burn, and the stronger slow helps Udyr stick to targets in teamfights. At max rank, Wingborne Storm's blizzard deals 400 (+140% AP) total base damage over 4 seconds before counting Liandry's burn, Awakened damage, or empowered attack damage.
- Blazing Stampede (E) — Max second. Each rank increases movement speed from 25% to 55%, and reduces the per-target stun immunity timer from 6 to 4 seconds. E max second dramatically increases Udyr's ganking and chase potential — the movement speed increase per rank is massive, and the reduced stun immunity timer means Udyr can re-stun the same target more frequently in extended fights. The faster stun cycling is critical in teamfights where Udyr needs to lock down multiple targets.
- Wilding Claw (Q) — Max third. Each rank increases attack speed from 20% to 80%, on-hit damage from 5 to 45 (+25% bonus AD), and max-health damage from 3% to 8% per empowered attack. Q ranks provide additional dueling power and objective damage but are less impactful than R and E in the AP build because Wilding Claw's physical damage does not scale with Liandry's or ability power.
- Iron Mantle (W) — Take one point early, max last. A single point in W provides the shield and lifesteal mechanic that sustains Udyr through jungle clears. While additional ranks increase the shield from 45 to 145 and lifesteal from 15% to 20%, the sustain from rank 1 is sufficient for most of the game, and the damage and utility from R and E ranks are more impactful.
Level-by-level order: R, E, W, R, R, R, R, R, E, E, E, E, E, Q, Q, Q, Q, Q.
Summoner Spells
Jungle
- Flash — Flash is essential on Udyr for Flash-E stun engages onto priority targets who position just outside Blazing Stampede's movement speed range, Flash escapes from situations where Blazing Stampede alone cannot create enough distance, and Flash repositioning in teamfights to reach the backline when the enemy frontline blocks his path. Taken in the majority of games.
- Smite — Required for jungle clear, camp sustain, and objective securing. Smite is mandatory on all junglers and evolves into upgraded Smite after completing the jungle quest, providing either a challenge or consumption effect depending on the jungle companion chosen.
- Ghost (Alternative) — Ghost provides extended movement speed that stacks with Blazing Stampede for overwhelming chase potential — the combined movement speed makes Udyr virtually uncatchable and ensures he reaches any target on the map. Ghost is the alternative to Flash when the enemy team lacks burst damage that requires Flash to dodge, and the lower cooldown means Ghost is available for more ganks than Flash. Take Ghost against compositions without hard point-and-click CC that would stop Udyr regardless of movement speed.
Playstyle Tips
Early Game / Jungle Clear (0-14 min)
Udyr's early game as a jungler focuses on completing a fast, healthy full clear using stance rotation to maximize both clear speed and sustain, then immediately looking for ganks with Blazing Stampede's guaranteed stun on any overextended laner.
Start R (Wingborne Storm) level 1 for the fastest AoE clear on the first buff camp. Activate R to start the blizzard, auto attack twice to consume the empowered attacks and proc Monk Training's attack speed, then kite the camp within blizzard range. Take E (Blazing Stampede) level 2 for the movement speed to transition between camps quickly and the stun for potential level 2 invade fights. Take W (Iron Mantle) level 3 for sustain through the remaining camps — activate W between camps to shield incoming damage and lifesteal back health.
The fundamental Udyr clear pattern is: activate a stance, land two empowered attacks to proc Monk Training and refund Awaken cooldown, then swap to the next stance. Rotate between R for damage and W for sustain on each camp. The Awaken should be used on R for the first camp to maximize damage, then saved for subsequent camps or ganks depending on pathing. Udyr finishes his first full clear at near-full health thanks to Iron Mantle sustain, giving him an immediate gank opportunity that most other junglers cannot match.
Udyr's first gank timing is after completing his first clear with level 3 and all three basic abilities. The gank pattern is straightforward: activate E for movement speed, run at the target through river or lane brush, auto attack to stun for 0.75 seconds, switch to R for blizzard damage, and auto attack to apply empowered damage while the target is slowed by the blizzard. If the target flashes, Udyr can often follow with his own Flash or simply wait for the next Blazing Stampede cooldown. Udyr's ganks are uniquely reliable because the stun is point-and-click — unlike Lee Sin's Sonic Wave or Elise's Cocoon, the Blazing Stampede stun cannot be dodged.
Mid Game & Teamfights (14-25 min)
Mid-game Udyr with Liandry's Torment completed is a sustained area-damage threat who melts grouped enemies with Wingborne Storm's Liandry-enhanced blizzard while being durable enough to stand in the middle of teamfights thanks to Iron Mantle's shield and lifesteal.
Udyr's mid-game strategy revolves around objective control and using Blazing Stampede to catch enemies out of position. With Liandry's Torment completed, Wingborne Storm's blizzard deals significant percentage-health damage to Dragon and Rift Herald, making Udyr one of the fastest objective takers among bruiser junglers. Force Dragon fights by starting the objective with R active and switching to W for sustain if contested. If the enemy jungler arrives, switch to Q for dueling burst or E to stun them and Smite the objective.
In mid-game teamfights, Udyr should activate Blazing Stampede to reach the enemy backline or stun the most dangerous diver, switch to Wingborne Storm for area damage, and use the Awaken on whichever stance provides the most value for the current fight state. Against clustered enemies, Awakened Wingborne Storm's mobile blizzard deals devastating percentage max-health damage to everyone caught in the area. Against a single priority target, Awakened Wilding Claw's lightning strikes shred them with max-health physical damage. Against heavy burst, Awakened Iron Mantle's massive shield and doubled healing keeps Udyr alive through damage that would kill any other bruiser.
Late Game (25+ min)
Late-game Udyr with a full tank build is an unkillable frontliner whose Wingborne Storm and Liandry's Torment melt through entire teams while Iron Mantle's shield amplified by Spirit Visage makes him nearly impossible to kill in extended teamfights.
In the late game, Udyr's value is maximized in extended teamfights around Baron and Elder Dragon where his sustained area damage and durability outshine burst-oriented junglers who deal their damage in one rotation. The correct pattern is: activate E to charge into the fight and stun the most important target, immediately switch to R for blizzard damage on the grouped enemy team, Awaken R if multiple enemies are clustered for the mobile blizzard's percentage max-health damage, then switch to W for shield and sustain when focused by the enemy team. Continue rotating between R for damage and W for sustain until the fight is decided.
Position as a frontliner — Udyr is built to absorb damage and deal sustained area damage from melee range. Unlike assassin junglers who need to flank, Udyr functions best running directly at the enemy team with his frontline, stunning priority targets with E, and burning everything around him with R. The combination of Dead Man's Plate armor, Spirit Visage magic resistance and healing amplification, and Jak'Sho's stacking resistances makes late-game Udyr one of the tankiest champions in the game while still dealing relevant damage through Liandry's burn.
Matchups
Jungle
#### Favorable
- Sejuani — Udyr dominates Sejuani (~63% WR). Sejuani is a tank jungler with slow early clears and limited dueling power before level 6. Udyr clears faster, duels harder with Wilding Claw's attack speed and max-health damage, and invades Sejuani's camps with impunity because Sejuani cannot fight back in 1v1 situations. Blazing Stampede's movement speed lets Udyr run circles around Sejuani, and the per-target stun cooldown is irrelevant because Sejuani cannot threaten Udyr even when the stun is unavailable. Udyr outpaces Sejuani at every stage of the game.
- Dr. Mundo — Udyr beats Dr. Mundo (~61% WR). Dr. Mundo is a scaling tank jungler who relies on regeneration and Infected Bonesaw poke. Udyr's sustained melee damage through stance rotations far exceeds Dr. Mundo's combat output, and Wilding Claw's percentage max-health damage shreds through Mundo's massive health pool. Mundo has no crowd control to lock Udyr down and no mobility to escape Blazing Stampede's chase. Udyr can invade Mundo freely and contest his camps throughout the early and mid game.
- Lillia — Udyr beats Lillia (~57% WR). Lillia is a scaling AP jungler who relies on kiting with movement speed from her passive. Udyr's Blazing Stampede movement speed matches or exceeds Lillia's passive speed, and the point-and-click stun interrupts Lillia's kiting pattern. Once Udyr reaches Lillia, her low base stats and lack of defensive abilities make her easy to burst down. Udyr can invade Lillia's jungle early because she is fragile and cannot duel.
#### Even
- Lee Sin — Udyr fights approximately even against Lee Sin (~51% WR). Lee Sin has strong early-game dueling with Sonic Wave burst and Safeguard mobility, but Udyr's sustained damage and tankiness outscale Lee Sin after the first item completion. The matchup is tempo-dependent — Lee Sin wins quick skirmishes where his burst rotation kills Udyr before sustain matters, while Udyr wins extended fights where stance rotation and Iron Mantle healing outlast Lee Sin's combo cooldowns.
- Vi — Udyr fights approximately even against Vi (~50% WR). Vi's Vault Breaker engage and Cease and Desist lockdown match Udyr's own crowd control and engage potential. Both champions want to run at priority targets and lock them down — the matchup is decided by which jungler has more team support and better pathing decisions rather than raw champion power.
#### Unfavorable
- Nunu & Willump — Udyr loses to Nunu & Willump (~45% WR). Nunu's Biggest Snowball Ever! provides engage and objective control that Udyr cannot match, and Consume's true damage on monsters gives Nunu superior objective secure. Nunu's teamfight contribution through AoE CC and tankiness exceeds Udyr's in grouped fights, and Nunu's roaming speed with Biggest Snowball matches Blazing Stampede's movement speed while providing crowd control that Udyr's E cannot replicate.
- Ekko — Udyr loses to Ekko (~46% WR). Ekko's Phase Dive dash and Chronobreak ultimate give him the mobility to dodge Blazing Stampede stuns and escape fights that turn against him. Ekko's burst damage with Parallel Convergence stun and Timewinder deals massive damage before Udyr can build sustained advantage through stance rotations. Ekko can engage on his own terms and disengage with Chronobreak, denying Udyr the extended fights he needs to win.
- Jarvan IV — Udyr loses to Jarvan IV (~47% WR). Jarvan's Cataclysm traps Udyr in an arena where Blazing Stampede's movement speed advantage is nullified. Jarvan's early-game burst with Dragon Strike through Demacian Standard deals significant damage in quick trades that end before Udyr's sustained damage advantage takes effect. Jarvan's teamfight contribution with AoE knockup and terrain creation exceeds Udyr's single-target stun utility.
Best Synergy Partners
Udyr pairs best with laners who provide crowd control to chain with Blazing Stampede's stun and damage to follow up on his area-of-effect Wingborne Storm burn:
- Orianna — Orianna's Command: Shockwave ultimate pulls the entire enemy team together, grouping them perfectly for Udyr's Wingborne Storm blizzard and Liandry's burn to hit every enemy simultaneously. Orianna can also shield Udyr with Command: Protect and speed him up with Command: Dissonance as he charges in with Blazing Stampede.
- Lulu — Lulu's Whimsy grants Udyr bonus movement speed that stacks with Blazing Stampede for overwhelming chase, Wild Growth provides emergency health and a knockup that peels divers, and Help Pix! adds bonus magic damage to every Udyr auto attack for additional sustained damage during stance rotations.
- Leona — Leona's heavy engage with Shield of Daybreak, Zenith Blade, and Solar Flare chains perfectly with Blazing Stampede's stun, creating an extended CC lock that gives Udyr enough time to stack Wingborne Storm damage and Liandry's burn on the target for a guaranteed kill.
Recent Patch Changes
Udyr's current state in Patch 16.6 reflects a solid position in the jungle meta — his 52.5% win rate and 1.5% pick rate in Emerald+ place him in B Tier, indicating that the Spirit Walker is a viable and effective jungle choice in the current patch. His low 1.0% ban rate suggests that while Udyr is effective in the hands of dedicated players, he is not considered frustrating enough to warrant frequent bans.
The Conqueror build with Precision primary and Inspiration secondary has emerged as the most popular rune configuration, rewarding Udyr players who excel at extended melee fights where stance rotation and sustained damage create advantages that burst-oriented champions cannot match. The Liandry's Torment into Dead Man's Plate into Spirit Visage build path provides the optimal balance of sustained area damage and frontline durability, validating the AP bruiser build over pure AD or pure tank alternatives. Udyr's win rate against tank junglers like Sejuani (63%) and Dr. Mundo (61%) confirms his identity as a sustained-damage bruiser who thrives against champions who want extended fights but lack the damage to threaten him.
