Best Viktor Build & Guide (2026) — League of Legends

The definitive Viktor build guide for 2026. Optimal items, runes, ability order, playstyle tips, and matchup advice backed by data from thousands of ranked League of Legends matches.

Viktor is League of Legends' Machine Herald — a control mage who evolves his abilities through Glorious Evolution's Hex Fragment system to become one of the most powerful late-game mages in the game, blasts enemies with Siphon Power's targeted burst and empowered auto-attack, traps and stuns groups with Gravity Field's escalating slow, cuts through waves and champions with Death Ray's sweeping laser and augmented aftershock explosion, and disrupts teamfights with Arcane Storm's persistent AoE damage zone that follows enemies and interrupts channels. He is a mid lane control mage who builds Blackfire Torch into Liandry's Torment and AP items to zone teamfights, melt frontlines with burn damage, and obliterate grouped enemies with augmented ability combos. Viktor is played as a mid laner (51% win rate on Patch 16.6 Emerald+, S Tier) with a 7.2% pick rate and 3.8% ban rate. Whether you want to evolve into an unstoppable late-game carry through Glorious Evolution's augment system, zone enemies with Gravity Field's escalating stun, poke and waveclear with Death Ray's sweeping laser, or disrupt entire teamfights with Arcane Storm's persistent damage field, this guide covers everything you need to master the Machine Herald in 2026.

Viktor Overview

Viktor operates as a scaling control mage whose power comes from Glorious Evolution's Hex Fragment augment system that permanently upgrades his basic abilities, Death Ray's sweeping laser that provides unmatched waveclear and poke, Gravity Field's zone control that traps and stuns grouped enemies, and Arcane Storm's persistent AoE that disrupts channels and melts teams. Unlike burst mages who rely on a single rotation or assassins who need to get in and out quickly, Viktor wins fights by controlling space with layered abilities, evolving his kit through augments that unlock devastating bonus effects, and scaling into a late-game powerhouse whose augmented combo can one-shot squishies and zone entire teams. He is played as a mid laner (51% win rate on Patch 16.6 Emerald+) with a 7.2% pick rate.

Unlike assassins who need to roam and snowball or early-game mages who fall off, Viktor wins games through scaling augments, zone control, and devastating AoE damage — Glorious Evolution causes enemy kills to drop Hex Fragments, and every 100 Hex Fragments permanently augments one of Viktor's basic abilities with a powerful bonus effect. Siphon Power throws a device at an enemy for 50-100 (+30% AP) magic damage, grants Viktor a shield of 40-140 (+25% AP) for 2.5 seconds, and empowers his next basic attack to deal 20-80 (+50% AP) bonus magic damage as Discharge — the Turbocharge augment adds 30% bonus movement speed and increases the shield by 60%. Death Ray fires a sweeping laser dealing 70-230 (+50% AP) magic damage to all enemies in its path — the Aftershock augment adds an explosion that follows the laser's path for 20-180 (+70% AP) additional damage, bringing the total to 90-410 (+120% AP). Gravity Field deploys a zone that slows enemies with escalating stacks, stunning them on the fifth stack — the Magnetize augment makes all of Viktor's other abilities apply a slow. Arcane Storm conjures a persistent storm dealing 100-250 (+50% AP) initial magic damage and 65-145 (+45% AP) per tick while interrupting channels — the Perfect Storm augment makes the storm move 25% faster and grow in size and duration when champions die in it. Viktor's strength lies in his scaling — each augment dramatically increases his power, and a fully augmented Viktor is one of the most devastating teamfight mages in the game.

Glorious Evolution (Passive) causes enemy units killed by Viktor to drop Hex Fragments. Minion kills grant 1 fragment, large minions and large monsters grant 5 fragments, champion kills grant 25 fragments, and assists grant 5 fragments. Every 100 Hex Fragments, Viktor permanently augments one of his basic abilities (Q, W, or E) in the order of his choosing. Each augment transforms the ability with a powerful bonus effect. Glorious Evolution is Viktor's defining mechanic — it forces him to farm aggressively to unlock augments as early as possible, and each augment represents a significant power spike. The optimal augment order is E (Aftershock) first for waveclear and poke, then Q (Turbocharge) for trading and survivability, then W (Magnetize) for teamfight control. A Viktor who reaches all three augments is dramatically more powerful than one who falls behind on fragments.

Siphon Power (Q) has an 8 / 7 / 6 / 5 / 4-second cooldown and costs 45 / 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 mana. Viktor throws a siphoning device at the target enemy, dealing 50 / 62.5 / 75 / 87.5 / 100 (+30% AP) magic damage. The device also grants Viktor a shield of 40-140 (based on level) (+25% AP) for 2.5 seconds and empowers his next basic attack for 4 seconds with Discharge, which deals 20 / 35 / 50 / 65 / 80 (+50% AP) bonus magic damage. The total Q + Discharge damage is 70 / 97.5 / 125 / 152.5 / 180 (+80% AP) magic damage. Siphon Power is Viktor's primary trading tool in lane — the shield absorbs return damage while Discharge adds substantial burst to his auto-attack. The Turbocharge augment transforms Q into a kiting and chasing tool by adding 30% bonus movement speed for 2.5 seconds and increasing the shield by 60%, making augmented Q a powerful repositioning ability that lets Viktor weave in and out of fights.

Gravity Field (W) has a 17 / 16 / 15 / 14 / 13-second cooldown and costs 65 mana at all ranks. Viktor deploys a gravitational field at the target location for 4 seconds. Enemies inside the field are slowed and accumulate stacks every 0.5 seconds. Upon reaching the fifth stack, the target is stunned for 1.5 seconds. Gravity Field is Viktor's primary zone control and self-peel tool — the threat of a 1.5-second stun forces enemies to walk around the field rather than through it, creating chokepoints in teamfights and protecting Viktor from divers. The Magnetize augment causes all of Viktor's other abilities (Q, E, R) to apply a slow, making it nearly impossible for enemies to escape his damage once they're caught in his combo.

Death Ray (E) has a 13 / 12 / 11 / 10 / 9-second cooldown and costs 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 mana. Viktor fires a laser that sweeps across the target area, dealing 70 / 110 / 150 / 190 / 230 (+50% AP) magic damage to all enemies in its path. Death Ray is Viktor's signature ability — the laser can be aimed freely in any direction, enabling Viktor to hit enemies at long range, waveclear entire minion waves, and poke through terrain. The Aftershock augment adds an explosion that follows the laser's path after a brief delay, dealing 20 / 60 / 100 / 140 / 180 (+70% AP) additional magic damage for a devastating total of 90 / 170 / 250 / 330 / 410 (+120% AP). Augmented Death Ray is one of the most powerful non-ultimate abilities in the game — it one-shots caster minions, chunks squishies for 40-60% of their health, and zones entire teams away from objectives.

Arcane Storm (R) has a 120 / 100 / 80-second cooldown and costs 100 mana at all ranks. Viktor conjures an arcane singularity at the target location, dealing 100 / 175 / 250 (+50% AP) magic damage to enemies within the area and interrupting all enemy channels. The singularity persists for 6.5 seconds, dealing 65 / 105 / 145 (+45% AP) magic damage per tick to enemies within the area. Viktor can reactivate the ability to redirect the storm toward the cursor. Arcane Storm is Viktor's teamfight-defining ultimate — the initial burst plus channel interrupt makes it devastating against channeling champions like Katarina, Nunu, and Miss Fortune, and the persistent ticking damage forces enemies to either leave the area or take massive damage over time. The Perfect Storm augment makes the storm move 25% faster and causes it to grow in size and extend its duration whenever a champion dies after taking damage from it, turning a won teamfight into a cascading wipe as the storm grows larger and lasts longer with each kill.

Strengths

  • Glorious Evolution's augment system makes Viktor one of the strongest scaling mages in the game — each augment permanently upgrades an ability with a powerful bonus effect, and a fully augmented Viktor has dramatically more waveclear, burst, and zone control than almost any other mid laner. The E augment (Aftershock) effectively doubles Death Ray's damage, the Q augment (Turbocharge) adds movement speed and a 60% stronger shield for kiting, and the W augment (Magnetize) makes every ability slow enemies for inescapable combos — Viktor gets exponentially stronger as the game progresses through augment unlocks
  • Death Ray is one of the best waveclear and poke abilities in League of Legends — the sweeping laser hits the entire minion wave from long range, and with the Aftershock augment, the follow-up explosion one-shots caster minions and chunks enemy champions for massive damage. Death Ray's free-aim targeting lets Viktor poke through terrain, hit enemies around corners, and zone objectives from safe distances that most mages cannot reach — Viktor's waveclear and poke with augmented E are nearly unmatched
  • Gravity Field provides elite zone control that shapes teamfights — the escalating slow into 1.5-second stun creates no-go zones that force enemies to reposition or get stunned, and when placed in chokepoints near Dragon, Baron, or jungle corridors, Gravity Field single-handedly controls teamfight geography. Combined with the Magnetize augment that makes all spells slow, Viktor can layer CC across the entire fight — Viktor controls teamfight spacing better than almost any mage
  • Arcane Storm's persistent AoE damage and channel interrupt make Viktor a teamfight monster — the initial cast disrupts key enemy ultimates while the ticking damage zone forces enemies to scatter or die. With the Perfect Storm augment, the storm grows and extends with each champion death, creating a cascading effect where winning the first kill makes the storm larger for easier second and third kills — Viktor's ultimate dominates extended teamfights

Weaknesses

  • Viktor is immobile and vulnerable to assassins and divers before augments — he has no dash, no blink, and his only defensive tools are Siphon Power's shield and Gravity Field's delayed stun. Champions like Zed, Fizz, and Akali can bypass Gravity Field and burst Viktor before the stun triggers, and without the Turbocharge augment's movement speed boost, Viktor cannot kite effectively against gap-closing threats — Viktor is a sitting duck against mobile assassins
  • Viktor's power is gated behind Hex Fragment collection — he needs to farm 100 fragments for each augment, meaning a Viktor who falls behind in CS or gets killed repeatedly delays his augment spikes significantly. Unlike other mages who scale with items alone, Viktor needs both items and augments to reach full power, creating a double scaling requirement that makes falling behind doubly punishing — Viktor's augment gating makes him weaker when behind than other mages
  • Gravity Field has a significant delay before the stun triggers — enemies need to accumulate five stacks over 2.5 seconds inside the field, meaning mobile champions can simply dash or flash out before being stunned. Against teams with multiple dashes, Gravity Field's zone control is significantly diminished, and Viktor loses his primary self-peel tool — Gravity Field's delayed stun is unreliable against mobile champions
  • Viktor's early game is weak compared to aggressive mid laners — he needs time to farm Hex Fragments, complete augments, and scale into his item spikes. Early-game bullies like Syndra, Xerath, and LeBlanc can pressure Viktor in lane before he augments Death Ray, denying him CS and delaying his power curve. Viktor cannot match early roaming from assassins, giving his opponents time to snowball side lanes — Viktor's early game is exploitable by aggressive laners and roamers

Recommended Runes

Mid: Summon Aery (Sorcery) — Most Popular & Highest Win Rate

The most popular and highest win rate rune page for Viktor Mid is Summon Aery in the Sorcery tree. Summon Aery synergizes perfectly with Viktor's frequent poke pattern because Siphon Power's targeted damage procs Aery on every trade, Death Ray's long-range laser procs Aery for safe poke, and the bonus damage from Aery adds up significantly over the course of laning phase.

  • Summon Aery — Damaging abilities and auto-attacks send Aery to the target, dealing bonus adaptive damage. Summon Aery is Viktor's ideal keystone because his frequent Q trades and E poke proc Aery constantly throughout laning phase. Unlike Arcane Comet which can miss, Aery always hits on targeted abilities like Siphon Power. Aery's short cooldown means Viktor procs it multiple times per trade sequence, adding consistent damage to his already-strong poke pattern.
  • Manaflow Band — Hitting an enemy champion with an ability permanently increases Viktor's maximum mana, up to a cap. Once the cap is reached, Viktor gains bonus mana regeneration. Manaflow Band solves Viktor's early mana issues — Death Ray costs 60-100 mana per cast, and frequent E poke can drain Viktor's mana pool quickly. The bonus maximum mana and regeneration ensure Viktor can spam abilities throughout laning phase without being forced to base.
  • Transcendence — Grants bonus ability haste at levels 5 and 8, and ability takedowns reduce remaining cooldowns at level 11. Transcendence provides the ability haste Viktor needs to reduce Death Ray and Siphon Power cooldowns for more frequent poke and waveclear. The level 11 cooldown reset on takedowns is powerful in teamfights, letting Viktor cast multiple Death Rays in a single extended fight.
  • Scorch — Damaging abilities set enemy champions on fire, dealing bonus magic damage over time. Scorch adds burn damage to Viktor's Q and E poke, increasing his lane pressure during the early game when his base damage is relatively low. The extra damage from Scorch helps Viktor secure last hits on enemy champions during trades and accumulate Hex Fragments faster through more aggressive laning.

Secondary — Resolve

  • Bone Plating — After taking damage from an enemy champion, the next three instances of damage from that champion are reduced for a short duration. Bone Plating is essential for Viktor's survival against burst-heavy mid laners and assassins — when Zed, Fizz, or Akali all-in Viktor, Bone Plating reduces three instances of their burst combo, often making the difference between surviving the engage and dying before Gravity Field's stun triggers.
  • Shield Bash — While shielded, Viktor gains bonus armor and magic resistance. When the shield expires or is broken, Viktor's next basic attack deals bonus adaptive damage. Shield Bash synergizes directly with Siphon Power's shield — every Q trade grants Viktor defensive stats from Shield Bash while shielded, and the empowered Discharge auto-attack from Siphon Power benefits from Shield Bash's bonus damage, making Q trades more efficient in both offense and defense.

Alternative Secondary — Inspiration

  • Magical Footwear — Grants free boots at 12 minutes (reduced by 45 seconds per takedown). Magical Footwear saves 300 gold and provides 10 bonus movement speed, accelerating Viktor's core item completion. Since Viktor wants to reach Blackfire Torch as quickly as possible, the 300 gold savings from free boots is a significant boost to his first item timing.
  • Cosmic Insight — Grants bonus summoner spell haste and item haste. Cosmic Insight reduces Flash and Teleport cooldowns, giving Viktor more frequent access to Flash for survival and Teleport for map plays. The item haste also benefits Zhonya's Hourglass active, a critical defensive tool for Viktor.

Stat Shards

  • Adaptive Force — Bonus AP increases Death Ray damage, Siphon Power burst, and Arcane Storm tick damage. The early AP amplifies Viktor's poke and trading from level 1, helping him accumulate Hex Fragments through more aggressive laning.
  • Adaptive Force — Double adaptive force maximizes Viktor's early poke damage, making his Death Ray and Siphon Power trades hit harder in the early levels when base damage is low and every bit of extra damage matters for winning trades and securing CS.
  • Health Scaling — Scaling health provides survivability in mid-game teamfights, important for an immobile mage who can be dived by assassins and bruisers. The extra health gives Viktor enough durability to survive initial burst and respond with Gravity Field and his full combo.

Recommended Item Build

Based on data from ranked Viktor matches tracked across multiple stat sites on Patch 16.6, the Blackfire Torch burn mage build has the highest win rates for Mid. Here are the optimal build paths.

Mid Build

#### Early Game (0-10 min)

  • Blackfire Torch — Grants ability power, mana, and ability haste, with a passive that causes abilities to burn enemies for bonus magic damage over time based on their maximum health, and increases AP for each unique champion hit. Blackfire Torch is Viktor's ideal first item because the burn passive synergizes with all of his abilities — Death Ray's wide area hits multiple champions to stack the AP bonus, Arcane Storm's persistent ticks constantly reapply the burn, and even Siphon Power's targeted Q applies the burn for consistent damage. The mana and ability haste solve Viktor's resource and cooldown issues, and the percent-health burn adds meaningful damage against tankier targets that Viktor would otherwise struggle to kill quickly.
  • Sorcerer's Shoes — Grants magic penetration that increases all of Viktor's magic damage output. Sorcerer's Shoes are essential for Viktor because his entire damage profile is magic damage — Death Ray, Siphon Power, Discharge, Arcane Storm, and Blackfire Torch burn all benefit from the flat magic penetration. Against squishies who don't build magic resist early, Sorcerer's Shoes effectively increase Viktor's damage by 10-15%.

#### Core Build (10-20 min)

  • Liandry's Torment — Grants ability power, health, and a passive that causes abilities to deal bonus magic damage over time based on the target's maximum health. Liandry's Torment stacks with Blackfire Torch's burn for devastating damage-over-time effects — every Death Ray applies both burns simultaneously, and Arcane Storm's persistent ticks reapply both burns every second. Against tanky targets, the combined percent-health burns from Blackfire Torch and Liandry's Torment melt through health bars that flat AP alone cannot crack. The bonus health also improves Viktor's survivability in teamfights.
  • Zhonya's Hourglass — Grants ability power, armor, and ability haste, with an active that makes Viktor invulnerable and untargetable for 2.5 seconds. Zhonya's Hourglass is the most important defensive item for Viktor — when assassins or divers gap-close past Gravity Field, Zhonya's active buys 2.5 seconds for cooldowns to come back, for Gravity Field stun to trigger, and for Arcane Storm to tick on nearby enemies. Viktor can cast Arcane Storm and then immediately Zhonya's, forcing enemies to either stand in the storm or back away while Viktor is invulnerable.

#### Late Game (25+ min)

  • Rabadon's Deathcap — Grants massive ability power and a passive that increases total AP by 35%. Rabadon's Deathcap is Viktor's biggest power spike because the 35% AP multiplier amplifies every AP source he has — base AP from items, AP from Blackfire Torch's passive stacking, and AP from runes all get multiplied. With Rabadon's, augmented Death Ray hits for 60-70% of a squishy target's health, and a full combo of E-Q-R deletes carries instantly.
  • Void Staff — Grants ability power and 40% magic penetration that stacks multiplicatively with flat penetration from Sorcerer's Shoes. Void Staff is essential in the late game when enemy carries build magic resist items — the 40% magic penetration ensures Viktor's damage cuts through Banshee's Veil, Maw of Malmortius, and Spirit Visage, maintaining his threat against the entire enemy team regardless of their defensive itemization.
  • Banshee's Veil — Grants ability power, magic resistance, and a passive spell shield that blocks the first enemy ability. Banshee's Veil protects Viktor from engage tools that would otherwise catch him — Blitzcrank hook, Nautilus ultimate, Ashe arrow, and other initiation abilities are blocked by the spell shield, giving Viktor an extra layer of safety that his immobile kit desperately needs in the late game.

Situational Items

  • Mercury's Treads — Provides magic resistance and tenacity — essential against teams with heavy crowd control that could lock Viktor down before he casts Gravity Field or Zhonya's, reducing the duration of stuns, roots, and slows that prevent him from positioning safely in teamfights.
  • Morellonomicon — Provides ability power, health, and grievous wounds on magic damage — essential against teams with heavy healing, especially since Death Ray's wide area and Arcane Storm's persistent ticks apply grievous wounds to multiple enemies simultaneously throughout teamfights.
  • Cryptbloom — Provides ability power, mana regeneration, and magic penetration, with a passive that heals nearby allies when Viktor scores a takedown. Cryptbloom provides a supportive option when Viktor's team needs sustain in extended teamfights while still adding offensive stats.
  • Shadowflame — Provides ability power, health, and bonus magic damage against low-health targets. Shadowflame amplifies Viktor's execute potential, making Death Ray and Arcane Storm ticks finish off wounded enemies more reliably in chaotic teamfights.

Highest Win Rate 3-Item Combinations

The highest win rate build is Blackfire Torch + Sorcerer's Shoes + Liandry's Torment, which provides Blackfire Torch's percent-max-health burn stacking with Liandry's Torment's percent-max-health burn for devastating damage-over-time that melts both tanks and squishies, Sorcerer's Shoes' magic penetration amplifying all magic damage output, and enough mana and ability haste to spam Death Ray for waveclear and poke without running out of resources. This three-item spike at approximately 18 minutes gives Viktor enough burn damage to zone entire teams with Death Ray, enough ability haste to cast E every 7-8 seconds, and enough AP scaling to threaten one-shot combos on squishy targets.

Ability Priority

Mid: E > Q > W

  1. Death Ray (E) — Max first. Each rank increases the base damage from 70 to 230 and reduces the cooldown from 13 to 9 seconds. E max first provides Viktor's strongest waveclear, highest poke damage, and most impactful augment — the Aftershock augment adds an explosion that follows the laser's path for additional damage, effectively doubling Death Ray's damage to 90-410 (+120% AP) total. Maxing E first ensures Viktor can one-shot caster minions with augmented Death Ray as early as level 7, enabling perma-push and roam priority.
  2. Siphon Power (Q) — Max second. Each rank increases the device damage from 50 to 100, the Discharge damage from 20 to 80, and reduces the cooldown from 8 to 4 seconds. Q max second increases Viktor's trading efficiency in lane and provides stronger shielding for survival. The Turbocharge augment's 30% movement speed and 60% shield increase make maxed Q a powerful kiting tool that lets Viktor reposition in teamfights while dealing consistent damage.
  3. Gravity Field (W) — Max last. Each rank reduces the cooldown from 17 to 13 seconds, but the stun duration, slow strength, and field duration do not change with rank. W is maxed last because the 1.5-second stun is identical at all ranks, and the cooldown reduction from maxing is less impactful than Q's damage and shield increases. One point in W provides full zone control value; additional ranks only marginally improve cooldown.

Level-by-level order: E, Q, W, E, E, R, E, Q, E, Q, R, Q, Q, W, W, R, W, W.

Summoner Spells

Mid

  • Flash — Flash is mandatory on Viktor because he has no dash or escape ability in his kit. Flash enables critical repositioning when assassins dive him, Flash-R combos for surprise Arcane Storm engages onto grouped enemies, and Flash over walls to escape ganks that Gravity Field alone cannot prevent. Without Flash, Viktor is a free kill for any champion with a gap closer.
  • Teleport — Teleport enables Viktor to base for item components without losing CS and tower plates, return to lane quickly after being poked out, and make cross-map plays in the mid and late game. Viktor scales heavily with items and augments, so minimizing time away from lane through Teleport directly accelerates his power curve. Teleport also enables split-push threat in the late game — Viktor can push a side lane with Death Ray and Teleport into a teamfight instantly.

Alternative — Ignite

  • Ignite — Ignite can replace Teleport in matchups where Viktor wants kill pressure in lane. Against melee mid laners like Yasuo, Yone, and Sylas, Ignite's bonus damage during all-ins and grievous wounds against healing-heavy champions can secure early kills that accelerate Hex Fragment collection and augment timing. However, Ignite sacrifices the map pressure and safety that Teleport provides.

Playstyle Tips

Early Game / Laning Phase (0-14 min)

Viktor's early game in the mid lane focuses on farming Hex Fragments through aggressive CS to unlock the E augment (Aftershock) as quickly as possible, trading with Q-auto (Siphon Power + Discharge) whenever enemies step into range, and using Death Ray for waveclear and poke while maintaining safe positioning behind Gravity Field's zone threat.

Start E (Death Ray) level 1 for waveclear and poke — the laser's long range and wide area let Viktor hit the entire caster minion line while simultaneously poking the enemy laner. Take Q (Siphon Power) level 2 for the shield and Discharge empowered auto-attack, enabling stronger trades. Take W (Gravity Field) level 3 for gank protection and self-peel — placing W on top of yourself when the enemy jungler ganks forces them to walk around or get stunned.

Viktor's standard trading pattern is: E the wave to push and poke simultaneously, then Q the enemy for Siphon Power's damage and shield, auto-attack with Discharge for bonus damage, then back off. The shield absorbs return damage, making Viktor win short trades against most mid laners. Avoid extended trades before augments — Viktor's base stats are average and he loses sustained fights to fighters and bruiser-mages.

The critical early game milestone is reaching 100 Hex Fragments for the first augment. Always augment E first — the Aftershock explosion doubles Death Ray's damage and enables Viktor to one-shot caster minions, transforming his waveclear from average to elite. Once Death Ray is augmented, Viktor can perma-push the wave and start poking enemies with the aftershock explosion that they often don't expect.

Mid Game & Teamfights (14-25 min)

Mid-game Viktor with Blackfire Torch and augmented E + Q is a zone control powerhouse who threatens massive AoE damage with layered burn effects, controls teamfight spacing with Gravity Field's stun zone, and pokes from long range with augmented Death Ray's combined burst and aftershock explosion.

Viktor's mid-game strategy revolves around waveclearing side lanes with augmented Death Ray, grouping for objective fights where his zone control shines, and poking enemies before fights start. With Blackfire Torch's burn passive and augmented Death Ray, Viktor can chunk enemy carries for 40-50% of their health from fog of war with a single E, softening the enemy team before the fight even begins.

In mid-game teamfights, Viktor should position behind his frontline and open with Death Ray onto grouped enemies, follow with Arcane Storm on top of the enemy team to interrupt channels and apply persistent burn damage, place Gravity Field in the path of enemies trying to disengage or chase, and use Siphon Power to kite any divers with the Turbocharge augment's movement speed. The key is layering abilities — Death Ray's aftershock explosion into Arcane Storm's persistent ticks into Blackfire Torch and Liandry's burns creates enormous damage over time that melts even tanky frontlines. Do not use Gravity Field offensively unless the team has other engage — Viktor's W is too valuable as self-peel to waste aggressively. Save it for peeling assassins and divers who try to reach Viktor's backline.

Late Game (25+ min)

Late-game Viktor with full build and all three augments is a hyper-scaling teamfight carry who controls space with Gravity Field, deletes squishies with augmented Death Ray's 410 (+120% AP) total damage, and melts frontlines with layered burn damage from Blackfire Torch, Liandry's Torment, and Arcane Storm's persistent ticks — a fully itemized Viktor can deal more total AoE damage than almost any other champion in extended teamfights.

In the late game, Viktor's role is zone control and AoE damage carry. Position safely behind your team and use Death Ray to poke before every objective fight. When fights start, cast Arcane Storm on the largest cluster of enemies to interrupt channels and apply immediate burst, then redirect the storm to follow priority targets. Place Gravity Field in chokepoints to cut off enemy escape routes or protect your backline. Use Siphon Power's shield and Turbocharge movement speed to kite any threats that get past your team's frontline, and save Zhonya's Hourglass for when you're about to be bursted.

Late-game Viktor thrives in extended teamfights around objectives where enemies are forced to fight within Death Ray and Arcane Storm range. The Perfect Storm augment causes the storm to grow and extend when champions die in it, creating a snowball effect where winning the first kill makes the storm devastating for the remaining enemies. Avoid getting caught alone — a Viktor without Zhonya's or Gravity Field is an easy pick for assassins, and a late-game death timer can cost the game.

Matchups

Mid

#### Favorable

  • Azir — Viktor dominates Azir (~56% WR). Azir wants extended trades with soldier auto-attacks, but Viktor's Siphon Power shield absorbs soldier damage while Discharge and Death Ray out-trade Azir in short bursts. Viktor's augmented Death Ray waveclears faster than Azir's soldiers, denying Azir the push priority he needs to poke safely. In teamfights, Gravity Field zones Azir away from his soldiers, and Arcane Storm's persistent damage forces Azir to reposition rather than standing behind his wall of soldiers.
  • Mel — Viktor beats Mel (~54% WR). Mel is a scaling artillery mage, but Viktor scales faster through augments and out-trades her in the mid game. Death Ray's sweeping laser is harder to dodge than Mel's skillshots, and Viktor's Gravity Field punishes Mel's immobility. Once Viktor augments Death Ray, his waveclear surpasses Mel's, letting him push and roam while Mel struggles to match his priority.
  • Yone — Viktor beats Yone (~53% WR). Yone needs to dash into melee range with Spirit Cleave and Soul Unbound, but Viktor's Gravity Field is a death sentence for Yone's all-in — if Yone dashes into Viktor with E3, Gravity Field stuns him in place while Viktor dumps his entire combo. Siphon Power's shield and Discharge out-trade Yone in short exchanges, and augmented Death Ray pokes Yone down before he can engage. Zhonya's Hourglass makes Viktor unkillable during Yone's ultimate combo.

#### Even

  • Syndra — Viktor fights approximately even against Syndra (~50% WR). Both are scaling control mages with strong zone control and burst. Syndra has higher single-target burst with Unleashed Power, but Viktor has better sustained AoE damage and waveclear with augmented Death Ray. The lane is decided by who lands poke more consistently — Syndra's Scatter the Weak stun is dangerous, but Viktor's Gravity Field deters her from playing aggressively. Both scale well, making this a skill matchup throughout the game.
  • Lux — Viktor fights approximately even against Lux (~50% WR). Lux has longer range with Light Binding and Final Spark, but Viktor has better sustained damage and waveclear. If Lux lands her snare, she can burst Viktor with her full combo, but Viktor's Gravity Field threatens Lux equally if she walks too close. After augmenting Death Ray, Viktor out-pushes Lux and can roam or poke her under tower.

#### Unfavorable

  • Aurelion Sol — Viktor loses to Aurelion Sol (~45% WR). Aurelion Sol's reworked kit gives him enormous range with Breath of Light and Astral Flight, letting him poke Viktor from distances where Death Ray cannot retaliate. Aurelion Sol's stacking mechanic makes him outscale even Viktor in the ultra-late game, and his Falling Star/The Skies Descend ultimate provides engage that Viktor's immobile kit cannot dodge. Viktor cannot match Aurelion Sol's roaming with Astral Flight, losing side lane pressure.
  • Xerath — Viktor loses to Xerath (~46% WR). Xerath outranges Viktor with every ability — Arcanopulse, Eye of Destruction, and Rite of the Arcane all hit from distances where Death Ray and Siphon Power cannot reach. Xerath pokes Viktor down in lane before he can augment Death Ray, and in teamfights Xerath's backline range means Viktor's Gravity Field and Arcane Storm cannot zone him effectively. Viktor must Flash-engage onto Xerath to kill him, but a good Xerath stays out of Flash range.
  • Vel'Koz — Viktor loses to Vel'Koz (~44% WR). Vel'Koz's extreme range with Plasma Fission and Void Rift lets him poke Viktor from outside Death Ray range, and Lifeform Disintegration Ray's true damage passive melts Viktor even through magic resist items. Vel'Koz's geometry-based Q poke hits around minion waves, making it difficult for Viktor to hide behind CS. In teamfights, Vel'Koz can channel Lifeform Disintegration Ray from ranges where Arcane Storm and Gravity Field cannot reach him.

Best Synergy Partners

Viktor pairs best with champions who provide frontline presence to protect him while he scales, engage tools that set up Gravity Field and Arcane Storm, or jungle pressure that accelerates his Hex Fragment collection:

  • Kindred — Kindred's Lamb's Respite ultimate creates a zone where no one can die, forcing extended fights within a small area — perfect for Viktor to layer Arcane Storm, Death Ray, and Gravity Field on top of the entire enemy team trapped inside Respite. When Respite ends and enemies drop to low health, Viktor's full combo finishes them off. Both champions scale well into the late game, creating a powerful duo that gets stronger with every minute.
  • Nautilus — Nautilus provides the reliable engage that Viktor lacks — Depth Charge is a guaranteed knock-up on a priority target, and Dredge Line's hook creates follow-up CC. When Nautilus hooks an enemy carry, Viktor drops Gravity Field on top of them, follows with Death Ray and Arcane Storm, and the layered CC ensures the target cannot escape. Nautilus's tanky frontline also absorbs damage that would otherwise reach Viktor.
  • Viego — Viego's aggressive jungle pressure creates early kills and skirmishes that feed Viktor assist gold and Hex Fragments, accelerating his augment timeline. In teamfights, Viego's dive-and-possess playstyle creates chaos that Viktor exploits with AoE abilities — while enemies focus Viego, Viktor dumps Death Ray and Arcane Storm onto the clustered fight. If Viego dies, Viktor's zone control peels for the remaining team; if Viego gets a reset, the combined damage is overwhelming.

Recent Patch Changes

Viktor's current state in Patch 16.6 reflects a dominant position as a mid lane control mage — his 51% win rate in mid with a 7.2% pick rate and 3.8% ban rate in Emerald+ place him in S Tier, indicating that the Machine Herald is one of the strongest and most popular mid laners in the game with a scaling identity that rewards players who farm efficiently, augment optimally, and position correctly in teamfights.

The Summon Aery Sorcery build with Resolve secondary has established itself as the dominant rune configuration, rewarding Viktor players who poke frequently with Q and E trades while surviving burst with Bone Plating and Shield Bash's defensive synergy with Siphon Power. The Blackfire Torch into Liandry's Torment into Zhonya's Hourglass build path provides the optimal balance of burn DPS for sustained teamfight damage, defensive utility for surviving assassin engages, and ability haste for frequent Death Ray poke. Viktor's dominant matchups against Azir (56%) and Mel (54%) confirm his identity as a scaling mage who overwhelms other scaling champions with superior augment power spikes and zone control, while his struggles against Aurelion Sol (45%) and Vel'Koz (44%) highlight his weakness against ultra-long-range mages who outrange Death Ray and poke him before he can augment.
