Best Yoru Agent Guide & Tips (2026) — Valorant

The definitive Yoru guide for 2026. Optimal weapons, ability usage, playstyle tips, and matchup advice backed by data from thousands of ranked Valorant matches.

Yoru is Valorant's deception duelist — a Japanese dimensional rift walker who infiltrates enemy lines through teleports, fakes, and misdirection. Whether you're picking up Yoru for the first time or looking to refine your lurking and flanking game in ranked, this guide covers everything you need to dominate with Yoru in 2026.

Yoru Overview

Yoru operates as a deception-based duelist who creates openings through misdirection and dimensional manipulation rather than raw firepower. Fakeout sends a carbon copy of Yoru forward that mimics his running animation and footstep sounds — if an enemy shoots or gets close to the decoy it explodes and flashes all nearby enemies, punishing trigger-happy defenders and creating free peeks. Blindside throws a flash fragment that activates after bouncing off a surface, blinding anyone looking at it — the bounce mechanic lets Yoru flash around corners without exposing himself. Gatecrash sends out a dimensional tether that travels forward along the ground and can be activated to teleport Yoru to its location — it can also be placed stationary as a persistent teleport anchor for flanks and escapes. His ultimate Dimensional Drift lets Yoru enter another dimension where he is invisible and invulnerable, able to freely scout enemy positions and reposition before exiting with a flash that blinds nearby enemies.

Strengths

  • Best flanking kit in the game — Gatecrash teleport and Dimensional Drift let Yoru access angles and positions no other agent can reach, creating devastating backstab opportunities
  • High-value deception — Fakeout decoy forces enemies to either shoot it and get flashed, or hesitate and risk it being the real Yoru, creating lose-lose scenarios for defenders
  • Safe information gathering — Dimensional Drift provides free intel on enemy positions with zero risk, making it one of the most valuable scouting ultimates in the game
  • Self-sufficient entry — Blindside flash combined with Gatecrash teleport lets Yoru create his own openings without relying on teammate utility

Weaknesses

  • Extremely high skill ceiling — Yoru's kit requires creative thinking and precise timing to be effective; poor execution makes him the least impactful duelist in the game
  • Telegraphed abilities — Gatecrash tether and Fakeout decoy make distinctive audio cues that experienced players recognize immediately, reducing their effectiveness at higher ranks
  • Weak in direct duels — Unlike Jett's dash or Reyna's Dismiss, Yoru has no instant escape tool if a fight goes wrong, making him punishable when caught
  • Team-dependent follow-up — Yoru's flanks and distractions create openings, but without coordinated teammates to capitalize, the advantage is wasted

Recommended Weapons

Based on data from over 12,000 ranked Yoru matches tracked on dodge.gg, here are the highest winrate weapon choices by economy phase.

Full Buy Rounds

  • Phantom — Yoru's teleport entries and flanks often put him at close-to-mid range where the Phantom's no-tracers and fire rate shine. Enemies can't call out your position from suppressed shots after a Gatecrash teleport
  • Vandal — Strong when Yoru holds longer angles or plays for opening picks before teleporting in. The one-tap headshot rewards the off-angle peeks that Yoru's kit creates
  • Operator — Underrated on Yoru. Place a Gatecrash tether at a safe fallback position, take an aggressive Op shot, then teleport to safety — similar to Jett's dash-Op but with even more distance

Force Buy Rounds

  • Spectre — Gatecrash into close range makes the Spectre deadly. Teleport behind enemies and spray them down before they can turn around — Yoru's kit is built for close-quarters ambushes
  • Marshal — Yoru's ability to hold aggressive angles with a Gatecrash escape makes the Marshal a strong budget option for the same Op-and-teleport playstyle

Eco Rounds

  • Sheriff — Yoru's eco rounds are uniquely dangerous because Fakeout forces enemies to react, creating free peek opportunities for one-tap Sheriff headshots on distracted targets
  • Shorty — Teleport directly behind enemies with Gatecrash and deliver point-blank Shorty shots. The 150 credit investment plus free teleport makes this a high-value eco play

Ability Usage

Fakeout (C) — 100 credits, 1 charge

Fakeout is Yoru's signature deception tool and what makes him uniquely disruptive. Send out a decoy that runs forward mimicking Yoru's movement and footstep audio. If an enemy shoots the decoy or gets close to it, it explodes into a flash that blinds all nearby enemies. Use Fakeout to bait enemy utility and attention — send it toward a site while you push from another angle, forcing defenders to decide whether it's the real Yoru. On attack, send the decoy into a site ahead of your push: if enemies shoot it they get flashed and you peek for free kills, if they don't shoot you know they're not holding that angle. On defense, send it down corridors to bait attackers into revealing their positions. The decoy mimics your exact running model, so enemies under pressure will shoot it reflexively. At higher ranks, combine Fakeout with your real push — send the decoy one way while you Gatecrash from another direction to create total confusion about your real position.

Blindside (Q) — 250 credits, 2 charges

Blindside is a bounce flash that activates after hitting a surface, giving Yoru a powerful entry and self-peek tool. Throw the flash at a wall, floor, or ceiling — it bounces once and then pops, blinding anyone looking at it. The bounce mechanic lets you flash around corners, through doorways, and into rooms without ever exposing yourself. Learn the key bounce spots on every map: throwing Blindside at the floor just inside a doorway flashes the entire room while you stay in cover. On attack, use Blindside to flash site anchors before teleporting in with Gatecrash — the combo of flash-then-teleport is Yoru's bread-and-butter entry. On defense, bounce flashes off walls to stop pushes and peek aggressively while enemies are blinded. Blindside has a short wind-up after the bounce, so throw it slightly earlier than a normal flash to account for the bounce travel time.

Gatecrash (E) — Signature, 1 charge (refreshes on 2 kills)

Gatecrash is the core of Yoru's kit and what defines his playstyle. Press E to send out a dimensional tether that travels forward along the ground. Press E again to teleport to the tether's current position. Alternatively, press E and immediately place it as a stationary anchor point that lasts for a longer duration. This dual functionality makes Gatecrash incredibly versatile. For aggressive entries, send the tether toward the site, flash with Blindside, then teleport in while enemies are blinded. For flanks, place a stationary tether in a safe position, rotate around the map, then teleport back after creating chaos. The tether makes a visible trail and audio cue, so experienced enemies will hear it coming — use this to your advantage by sending fake tethers as bait while pushing from elsewhere. On defense, place a stationary Gatecrash behind your position for a safe escape route, or send it toward the enemy spawn for aggressive information plays. The teleport has a brief vulnerability window on arrival, so never teleport into a position where enemies are already aiming.

Dimensional Drift (X) — 7 ultimate points

Dimensional Drift is one of the most versatile ultimates in Valorant. Activate it to enter another dimension for 10 seconds — you become invisible to enemies, completely invulnerable to damage, and can move freely to scout the entire map. When you exit Dimensional Drift, a flash pulses around you that blinds all nearby enemies. Use this ultimate primarily for information: enter the rift, run through the enemy setup, identify where every defender is positioned, then call it out to your team. The exit flash makes it possible to uncloak directly on top of enemies for aggressive plays — combine with Gatecrash by placing a tether before ulting, scouting the map, then deciding whether to exit aggressively or teleport back to safety. On defense, use Dimensional Drift for retake scouting — enter the rift, find where attackers are positioned post-plant, then exit with a flash to retake. The ultimate's main weakness is that enemies can see a faint blue trail while you're in the rift, so avoid running directly through enemies at close range. Time your exit carefully: the exit animation has a brief delay before you can shoot, so exit behind cover or use the flash to buy yourself time.

Playstyle Tips

Attack Side

Yoru's attack is about creating confusion and splitting enemy attention. The ideal attack sequence is: send Fakeout toward one entry point, Gatecrash toward another, then flash with Blindside and teleport in from the angle enemies least expect. Communication is critical — tell your team when you're creating distractions so they can push while defenders are confused. Yoru excels at lurking: while your team fakes one site, use Gatecrash to silently position behind rotating defenders for backstab kills. Place a stationary Gatecrash tether before committing to a site take so you can teleport out if the entry fails. In post-plant, Yoru is devastating — use Fakeout and Gatecrash to constantly threaten from multiple angles while your team holds the spike.

Defense Side

On defense, Yoru plays as an aggressive information gatherer and flanker. Place a Gatecrash tether at your defensive position, then push forward aggressively for an opening pick — teleport back to safety after getting the kill. Send Fakeout toward common attack paths to gather info on which site the enemy is hitting. Blindside flashes punish aggressive pushes through chokepoints. For retakes, Yoru is one of the strongest agents in the game: Dimensional Drift lets you scout the site for free, identify all attacker positions, then exit with a flash to start the retake with perfect information. Use Gatecrash to teleport to off-angles during retakes that enemies won't expect.

Economy Management

Yoru has a moderately expensive ability kit. Blindside costs 250 each (500 for both charges) and Fakeout costs 100, totaling 600 for full utility. On eco rounds, prioritize one Blindside flash over Fakeout — the flash creates more direct value when you can't afford to waste time on deception. Gatecrash is free as your signature ability and provides the most impact per credit in Yoru's kit. Dimensional Drift is an excellent eco round tool — the free information and exit flash can swing a round without needing any weapon investment.
